Other software requires you to wait for rendering, downloading and attaching video, whereas Screen-o-matic has great immediacy because you can instantly share a link to what you just recorded. Cons The scripted recordings feature and the screenpal tool failed to work for me. I have no immediate use for them so have not persisted, but it's still an annoyance that they were not intuitive to use. You can add additional text, highlight particular areas on the screen, emphasize different types of mouse actions, and obfuscate confidential information. It's also easy to splice together different cuts of video. A very powerful and helpful piece of software. Cons The time-slider (to move to different points in the video) can be very touchy. Also, you have to be very mindful about how you layer your effects. If you're not very careful, you can miss frames when you think you've setup two different effects to stack and instead of a seamless transition, it becomes incredibly obvious. If there was a better way to work with individual frames, that would also help a lot but alas, I don't think there is one. Review Source SL Sneska L. I love the publish to youtube feature. But by far, the most useful tool to me is the narration option of cut or speed up silence. This feature allows me to complete lectures and software tutorials in a single take, click cut or speed up silence, and post a video very quickly. Pros The very simple interface. Extremely short learning curve. Cons Lacks chromebook support. The website says it supports Chromebooks, but the link to the app is dead. It works well and lets me use a stylus and on screen writing. It's easy to edit, download, and share. Pros I love how easy it is to use screencast-o-matic! I don't have any special video editing skills, but have quickly learned to edit short screen recordings for review of questions for students. This software is intuitive. It is easy to record, to edit out parts, add in content, and make a usable product. Cons I've really not found anything I didn't like. I've gotten better at editing as I've used the product more, but it was easy to use with a little practice. I didn't have any formal training and easily picked up how to use the program. It's free, but you can do a lot with a 15 minute video. If you need more time, you can do multiple videos or upgrade. Pros I really like Screencast-O-Matic because it's super easy to record either yourself or what you're doing on the computer, either with you being in the video or not. They have a free version, which is great! Cons I don't like the 15 minute limit they put on the videos for free users. Also their brand shows in your video if you're using it for free. Pros The two things I love most about the software is the easy of use/intuitiveness and the ability to capture small sections of the screen instead of the entire screen! Cons Obviously the watermark logo is going to be on everything until you pay to remove it.
