Love Foundation Soft for the job costing abilities, the PM module is wonderful and of course PR, AR and AP. The way everything works together is perfect.

Pros

The customer service availability, training and education.

Cons

It can be a bit persnickety when it comes to connectivity. Seems to time out quickly if I am not consistently working in Foundation. That can be annoying.

There is a lot of work to get set up and rolling, but overall it's worth it, if you are looking for accounting software that give detailed job cost reports

Really makes job costing easy. There is work involved to get everything set up, but once it's in...

Cons

It's a little out dated. It looks and feels like a 40 year old program. It seems to require a lot of "clicks" and "okays"

### "A Step Back in Time"

Using Foundation feels like traveling back in time. The software itself is 10-15 years behind industry standards and the company has not embraced advances in software development. Foundation attempts to catch-up but offering "bolt-on" solutions that on average are sub-par and often create as many problems as they solve. I would recommend being slow to adopt any new modules Foundation has to offer. The support team is responsive to questions/issues but often do not have a resolution or technical expertise to properly address issues. On several occasions, Foundation has made a change to the software that was not communicated that has caused issues with how we use the software. Only after reaching out to Foundation are, we made aware that they changed the functionality with disrupts our operations. The core functionality of the tool is adequate to manage the finances of a construction business. However, you will be paying a premium price for a system that offers basic functionality. If you are looking for a software that offers solutions to automate task and increase efficiency, I would recommend exploring other options.

Pros

The ability to extract data from the tool using ODBC Connection to create custom reporting outside of Foundation.

Cons

Constant bugs/issues that are not addressed timely or not tested thoroughly. Outdated technology that is not up to par with industry standards, very limited integration capabilities with other systems, awkward and cumbersome user interface.

Overall, it is a pretty good system and ultimately does the job that we need it to. We do have to manage a lot outside of our accounting system such as changes to employees' benefits.

Pros

I like that we can pull certified payrolls directly from the system. The customer service is mostly very good and helpful.

Cons

It is a bit clunky and hard to see the details without digging in further. Finding the information, you need can be difficult. I cannot pull cash basis reports. Certified payrolls are slow to print and save. They system doesn't keep historical information well.

Overall, what stood out most was that FOUNDATION clearly understands how construction companies actually operate, and it’s built more for financial accuracy and job control than surface‑level simplicity—which is often exactly what construction accounting teams need.

Pros

Excellent job costing depth FOUNDATION gives very strong visibility into budget vs. actuals, committed costs, change orders, and job profitability. It feels designed for people who live inside job cost reports every day.

Cons

Many users say the system is powerful but hard to learn, especially for new staff or non-accounting users. Basic tasks can require multiple screens and steps, which hurts efficiency early on.

### "Promising - but still needs some work! "

Foundation is very clunky and not very intuitive. It has a lot of really good information, but doesn't always do the best job of then reporting that information or provide a good way to organize that data.

Pros

The value for the cost. There are a lot of functions that Foundation's does very well, and it is a great option for smaller businesses that need more than what Quickbooks can offer.

Cons

The modules do not all speak to one another. Change orders do not flow through to Unit Price Billing. I do not like that you have to request support to help you, bc waiting on the call back can put you in a difficult spot.

I have used it for about 4 years (at a previous employer also) and it works well but definitely could be some necessary updates.

Pros

I like how well it works with the construction industry. It is very good as far as tracking hours in payroll.

Cons

The scrolling on reports is difficult. One of my biggest complaints is the length of time it takes to get a call from support. We recently started using document imaging and have run into several hurdles to prevent us from moving forward and have to wait a couple days for a call once logging a call.

Overall, this is a decent ERP program to use in the construction industry, but I would stray towards another if using for the service industry.

Pros

I enjoyed using the Importer application to decrease some manual input since it can be used on the AR invoices and General Ledger.

Cons

I did not like the Hosted Foundation version crashing multiple times due to 1-3 second drops in internet connection and the limited customization of reports.

It's good and functional for the most part. I would like to see more access to training geared toward what i use it for specifically.

Foundation is beneficial for our company in what my department uses it for, but I feel like I'm missing out on the potential of its full potential and capability.

I feel like I'm using an outdated system at times. Seems like permissions are limited and it doesn't always function the way I want it too.

I love using Foundation! The software is not hard to learn, and customer service is always there to help.

Pros

Foundation is very user friendly, and the customer service is top notch! It keeps all of our accounting straight with one software. You can scan documents into Foundation for employee files, billings, payments. So all you have to do is go to one place to look for everything.

Cons

There are some simple thing I wish I could do in Foundation. I would love to open a job and go to the next without having to close the job. A service profitability report would be nice for a service side. Like I said it is minor things.

Features that are easy to access and the overall guidance and help has been so tremendous. Our Company enjoys this specific software over many others.

Pros

Foundations has a great support team. If we need guidance for anything with the software or have any question they are fast to respond and happy to help us. It is easy to use and the webinar videos help tremendously. Documents are easy to access and track with the help of Foundations.

Cons

I am still on the learning curve so far I don't have anything that is my least favorite. I will continue to learn more and grow with this software and possibly in the future could have helpful remarks.

Overall it is a great system. There are several things I would change from an accounting perspective but it is a good system for construction if you use it correctly.

Pros

Customer support, Certified Payroll, Union Reporting, Data Genie reports, Overall it is a very integrated system.

Cons

\-Lack of ability to pay subs based on pay-when-paid. UPB has some good bones set up but it does not tie to AP to pay vendors well. Payments have to be tracked outside the system. -UPB does not allow retainage paid to be applied so the Project Status Paid Report at the end of a project always shows an unpaid balance. Should be able to apply so balance do is zero. -Lack of ability to easily apply cash to customer accounts when there is no invoice to apply to -Bank Deposits should happen before cash application

Overall it has been a great experience and it is taking our company to the next level. We are learning so much! Foundation is giving us the backbone we need to be more established.

Pros

Foundation offers a variety of reports you can use for things like payroll, job costing and more. It is very helpful when it comes to fringe benefits and certified payroll. The implementation meetings are very informative and the staff is very kind and helpful. Overall very happy with this software purchase.

Cons

The format of the software seems outdated. I wish I could use AI to import information instead of manually typing info from DIR sheets.

My overall experience with Foundation is good. We have been with Foundation for 14 years and Foundation has had numerous updates to fulfill the Construction world.

Pros

Customer Support is always willing to help and understand when there is a priority issues/question. There are multiple ways to get assistance when needed. Accounting and bookkeeping houses all the accounting data organizing and streamlined within the system. Billing and payments are 4/5 user friendly on Accounts Receivable part of the system. Accounts Payable is user friendly.

Cons

What I like least would have to be needing to click 3 different modules for the Accounts Payable to enter and process a payment.

Foundations is so superior to what we had been using in quick books. QB was fine when our company was small but now that we have grown Foundations is what we need.

Pros

Once you get the hang of it, it is smooth sailing. The more you use the easier it is to remember all the steps you have to do.

Cons

Our training was really not up to par. We did talk to management and they helped us out alot. \[sensitive content hidden\] was fantastic with all our questions.

Foundation has great support and internal consultants which is a big plus. Core accounting functionality works as expected and is a huge leap forward for someone coming off of QuickBooks and looking for a construction specific accounting software

Pros

Foundation handles Multi-union and multi-state payroll processing very well and has the ability to do corrections which is huge. Most electronic reporting needs are met as well so certified reports can be uploaded.

Cons

Lack of an open and public API limits 3rd party apps. Foundation need to prioritize this as it has been promised for some time but now appears to be a closed API release "coming soon" with only their select vendors.

I've used Foundation for over five years and I think it's a great accounting system for construction. I've had an overall positive experience with Foundation.

Pros

Foundation has great customer service! Whenever I have a problem, all I need to do is give them a call and they will work with me to fix the problem. All the representatives are courteous and knowledgeable about the software. I also love the ease of use of Foundation. The software is organized and easy to navigate, once you get the hang of it. It has many useful reports for job costing, payroll, and accounts payables/receivables. I do payroll at my company and Foundation makes it easy. There are many Pre-Check Registers that I can look over before submitting to make sure no mistakes are made. The most useful report to me is the "Unpaid Employee" list. It's exactly like it sounds, it'll give you a list of current employees who don't have a paycheck for the week.

Cons

It did take me a while to understand the layout of Foundation. I do payroll now, and it is tedious to create a new union with different pay rates and fringe deductions, since you have to create a fringe deduction for each trade that you have.

All in all I think Foundation is promising and has great customer support. It does need to strengthen it's training and resources, become more intuitive, and get a facelift.

Pros

My favorite part of Foundation is their customer service, which is very responsive to user needs and helpful. I appreciate their one on one help and that they make it super easy to connect with a live person without hassle. They have always been super friendly and taken good care of us as well. Foundation is also a more affordable software than may others I have tried elsewhere.

Cons

I don't feel that the software is as intuitive and user-friendly as it could be. The help options within the system are dated, hard to search, and not user-friendly. Their training materials are also dated and need to be modernized with quick job aid reference guides and less 100+ page documents with too much text, not enough visuals, and way too much information overload. Their training definitely needs an overhaul. Most people don't have time to scan multi-hundred-page documents for an answer that could be solved in a quick searchable knowledgebase, job aid repository, AI assistant, etc., or watch an hour long video that inevitably won't answer their question either. There's also a lot of features in Foundation that are dated and designed in a way that slows the user down. I've also found that there's a lot that I don't know is even in there, which is a bummer because unless you get a really strong customer service agent on the phone, you will likely never know about features, as not all of them dive as deep into support as I wish.

We are very happy with Foundation. Any issues we do come across are easily handled by their friendly and patient staff.

Pros

Foundation has a host of products available, many of which integrate automatically with their main software, helping our business to run smoothly and effortlessly. Their customer service and support are top-notch, with fast turnaround time and friendly response. New employees have found the system to be user-friendly and very easy to learn.

Cons

Although customizable reports are available, some data is difficult to export to a single report. This is easily maneuvered by merging multiple reports outside of the system, but it would be nicer if that step wasn't needed.

I applied for my job in my current position because of Foundation! Back in 2012 I worked for a company that decided to come on board with Foundation and I got to be involved in that process. When I saw an Office Manager position at my current company open up, I not only knew I would have the knowledge to do the job, but excel and really elevate the accounting side of the business. It had also been several years since I got to work in Foundation, and I knew I would be rusty, but because of the excellent customer service I knew they could help me out of any situation I got myself in!

Pros

Easy to use. Almost all modules are set up the same with Daily, Maintenance and Reporting. Almost all reports export out into Excel so you can make a spreadsheet like a pro. Their customer support is fantastic! Every time I get in a bind or have an issue, they have found a way to bail me out!

Cons

Its very rare, but just like any other software it can be glitchy. Even then it usually isn't a big issue.

Customer service is 99% of the time pleasant and helpful. Have always assisted and usually walk away with more information than I expected to assist with utilizing Foundation more easily.

Pros

Foundation is a useful tool. As a newer user, with 1 year history, I find that the basic AP and AR functions are easy to learn. The payroll is still an aspect of the program that I find has lots and lots of steps to process payroll. I like all the options or additional functions that are available, but the added costs of each function prohibits our company from reviewing or even adding the additional functions.

Cons

Payroll processing has a lot of steps. Would like to see a more informative how to for setting up the payroll and processing payroll. Wish the reports(Genie) would be more simple to produce.

Overall we would not trade for another software. We are very pleased with the software and the longtime relationship we have.

Pros

We have been using Foundation for over 15 years. We are a construction company with different projects and the job costing feature, specially ther WIP report are perfect. We also are very pleased with customer service.

Cons

I wish the bank and foundation would sync. It is tedious to have to enter transactions mannually every month to reconcile accounts.
