The overall experience has been much needed improvement to our business. Foundation software is exactly what we needed to go to the next level.

Pros

The customer support is fabulous. I don't know how I would have gotten through the year without it.

Cons

One big struggle for us is in the area of the service department. The ability to not be able to comment on a service job in the app unless you are the lead tech is troubling. Sometimes another tech will arrive at the job to assist or drop off parts and they are not able to enter their time and comment.

### "A Step Back in Time"

Using Foundation feels like traveling back in time. The software itself is 10-15 years behind industry standards and the company has not embraced advances in software development. Foundation attempts to catch-up but offering "bolt-on" solutions that on average are sub-par and often create as many problems as they solve. I would recommend being slow to adopt any new modules Foundation has to offer. The support team is responsive to questions/issues but often do not have a resolution or technical expertise to properly address issues. On several occasions, Foundation has made a change to the software that was not communicated that has caused issues with how we use the software. Only after reaching out to Foundation are, we made aware that they changed the functionality with disrupts our operations. The core functionality of the tool is adequate to manage the finances of a construction business. However, you will be paying a premium price for a system that offers basic functionality. If you are looking for a software that offers solutions to automate task and increase efficiency, I would recommend exploring other options.

Pros

The ability to extract data from the tool using ODBC Connection to create custom reporting outside of Foundation.

Cons

Constant bugs/issues that are not addressed timely or not tested thoroughly. Outdated technology that is not up to par with industry standards, very limited integration capabilities with other systems, awkward and cumbersome user interface.

### "Complete Construction Accounting System That Actually Works"

Overall, my experience has been very positive. FOUNDATION gives us strong visibility into our numbers and helps keep projects financially on track. The reporting is clear and useful for management decisions. For a construction company that wants accurate job costing and integrated accounting, this software stands out.

Pros

FOUNDATION works well for us because it is built specifically for construction. The job costing is detailed and reliable, which is critical when you are managing labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment across multiple jobs. We also use other FOUNDATION products like Vendrix for credit cards, WorkMax for time tracking, and HRHQ. Having everything connected makes a big difference. Credit card transactions flow into the system, field time from WorkMax ties into payroll and job costs, and HRHQ helps keep employee information organized. It feels like a full ecosystem instead of separate software that does not talk to each other.

Cons

There is a learning curve, especially in the beginning. It is a powerful system and requires proper setup and training to use it the right way. Once it is implemented correctly, it becomes much easier to manage, but new users need time to get comfortable.

Job costing required too many workarounds, and reporting was limited when it came to tracking detailed labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs by job. As the company grew, we needed stronger construction-specific features, better project visibility, and more integrated tools. FOUNDATION provided more accurate job cost tracking, better payroll and certified payroll capabilities, and a system designed around how construction companies actually operate.

### "A Powerful Construction Accounting System Backed by Exceptional Support"

Overall, we’ve had a very positive experience with Foundation. For construction companies with complex payroll, job costing, and reporting requirements, it’s one of the better industry-specific accounting systems available. The software is powerful, highly customizable, and clearly built with contractors in mind. While there are areas that could be modernized, particularly around foreign currency functionality, the strength of the core construction accounting features and the outstanding customer support make it a system we would still highly recommend.

Pros

Foundation has been a really strong fit for our construction accounting needs. The job costing capabilities, payroll functionality, reporting, and overall flexibility are far more tailored to the construction industry than most general accounting software we evaluated. It handles union payroll, multi-state work, certified payroll reporting, and detailed project tracking very well, which is critical for companies like ours. The system has a lot of depth, and once you understand how the modules work together, it can handle a significant amount of operational complexity. Customer support is also exceptional. We’ve worked with many software providers over the years, and Foundation’s support team has honestly been one of the best experiences we’ve had. Their reps are knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely helpful, especially when dealing with complicated construction accounting scenarios. It’s refreshing to work with a support team that actually understands the industry and takes the time to help solve problems instead of reading from scripts.

Cons

The biggest limitation for us is foreign currency handling. If your company deals with Canadian vendors, international projects, or multi-currency transactions with any regularity, Foundation falls short in that area. There are workarounds, but they tend to be manual and cumbersome compared to what you’d expect from a modern ERP/accounting platform. Some parts of the system can also feel dated from a usability standpoint, and there can be a learning curve for new users because of how robust the software is. However, for construction-specific accounting, the tradeoff is usually worth it.

### "So-So software"

The software is good, but there are things that need to be fixed. Example: Allow you to select multiple invoices from the same vendor paid as and eft, but record eft payments individually. This is time consuming if you have several that need to be paid to the same vendor. We recording cash receipts allow you to have a check box so that you can record them as 1 total deposit rather than record the cash receipt and then record the bank deposit. Rather than delete employees, vendors, customers and jobs, have a box that you check to inactive them so they don't show in the drop-downs (similar to the way you can in general ledger). Last year I was told some of the requests I wanted were being worked on. So far nothing.

Pros

Support is very good. Generally the representative who call you back are very knowledgeable. The software is easy to use. The on-line webinars are good, downloadable handouts are also very helpful. Needs to be more of them. Also, training classes for advanced queries, etc. need to be offered more often.

Cons

Very few enhancement requests. We have been using the software since 2020 and I have not seen any enhancements that make the job easier. This is very frustrating. I realize that you get 1000's of requests, but if you had a way for users to vote on requests you would have a better understanding of what the users want.

I like it, the cost keeps going up and now everything is an add on. But I like that it offers a lot of different components like the pr taxes and w2 filings.

Pros

it was easy to learn and use. The support team are great and the online help by topics are really good. I also know that if I do need help, I can have Support help me, support is the key, they get back to me very fast! I like how some support people really know what they're doing in Foundations and have knowledge in taxes and construction accounting. It's helpful!!!

Cons

Trying to make custom reports, not having a lot of different elements to create a report. Not being able to reprint some of payroll reports.

We have been very pleased with the software, the level of customer service and the price point as well. I have and would recommend Foundation Software to others.

Pros

Foundation Software has great customer service and support. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The cost of the software is a great value for the capabilities of the software and it room for growth that has allowed us to scale up in our business.

Cons

We are opting in to new products/add Ons as Foundation has been offering them such HRHQ, Foundation Pay, Safety HQ. There have been growing pains and sometime these have been clunky or down. I would hope that Foundation allocates more resources to these new products to help ensure that they are successful and we can continue to utilize them.

It's a good program but lacks progression. Foundation seems to be catching up and not evolving it's program - rather buying other programs as add-ons when they should look at the outdated features it already has inside and make it better for the clients.

Pros

That it tries to be a one-stop shop. Service is pretty responsive. For the most part, ease of use is simple.

Cons

Some of it's features are outdated like the payroll mobile module. They've just given up on it because they've acquired another system. Also, the document imaging hasn't been worked on. There's no drag and drop feature. If you want a query it'll take weeks when it shouldn't and you're charged an outrageous amount for a report that should be built in.

I love using Foundation! The software is not hard to learn, and customer service is always there to help.

Pros

Foundation is very user friendly, and the customer service is top notch! It keeps all of our accounting straight with one software. You can scan documents into Foundation for employee files, billings, payments. So all you have to do is go to one place to look for everything.

Cons

There are some simple thing I wish I could do in Foundation. I would love to open a job and go to the next without having to close the job. A service profitability report would be nice for a service side. Like I said it is minor things.

My overall experience with Foundation Software has been positive. The system is tailored to the construction industry, which makes many complex accounting and payroll tasks easier to manage. While there is a learning curve, once you become familiar with the platform it provides reliable tools for job costing, reporting, and payroll compliance. The software is stable, and the support team is generally always helpful when assistance is needed. Overall, it has strengthened our ability to track project performance and maintain accurate financial records.

Pros

I like most about Foundation Software is how well it supports the construction industry. The job-costing and payroll tools are extremely detailed, and the reporting features make it easy to understand project performance. It’s reliable, industry-specific, and gives our team the information we need to manage projects more confidently. There isn't a single day goes by that we are not using this software for all our needs. Foundation gave us the comfort of running a solid company.

Cons

I like least about Foundation Software is that the system can feel outdated. Certain tasks take longer than expected, and the learning curve is fairly steep, which can make it challenging for new users to become fully comfortable with the software. Additionally, some reports and features lack the level of customization our team needs. Support is generally helpful but sometimes difficult to reach during busy periods.

We've been very happy with Foundation. It has saved hours of entry and reporting, especially at month and year end!

Pros

Foundation is a great fit for a small to midsized business that needs more than a Quickbooks type program can offer, but not as much as the expensive and big ERP systems. In Foundation you have several billing types to choose from depending on the needs of your customers. The drill down feature from reports easily give you the detail you need. Document imaging let's you scan and store documents so that they are at your fingertips. No more huge filing cabinets. Great customer service.

Cons

There is not a function that I've found yet that I dislike. We have been using Foundation since 2018 and still find ways to tweak our operating processes.

Implementation leadership we worked with (\[sensitive content hidden\]) is an A+ team player who understands the dynamics of change-management theory, along with enough accounting and technical skill to master the transition.

Pros

Well-designed for construction industry company in the Goldilocks range of size - too many are either for small businesses (not properly job-costing, can't handle multi-union payroll) or for large corporations (where I'd need to triple my staff just for the data entry). Foundation has a great niche in between.

Cons

Some of the more "modern" features are gatekept in their ProjectHQ separate module - would be nice to see these not only integrated from a price perspective, but overall into the functionality of the system and not a separate entry.

Overall, we are happy with the software as it functions as a solid accounting software. I would love to have a more user-friendly interface (drag and drop), but overall Foundation is a good software product. Support is helpful whenever I need assistance which gives me the confidence in relying on the product for our business needs. I would recommend the software for other small construction/contracting companies.

Pros

Customer Service, particularly in the area of phone support, is excellent. The call back time is usually minimal and the support/assistance always exceeds expectations. Issues are address with patience and clear, easy to understand directions. Product Development has been improving making the product easier to use.

Cons

Initially, I was disappointed in the set up/training as a new user. The sessions felt unorganized and chaotic making it difficult to follow and learn. Cost of the software is not highly favorable, but the software itself is a good product and functions well.

One area for potential improvement is the addition of API functionality. With recent advances in AI, integrating AI agents into workflows could be a valuable enhancement. This could enable automation of repetitive tasks, provide intelligent recommendations, and improve overall productivity. This is what your competitors are reaching out to us about.

### "Foundation - Great Customer Service and Reports"

I've used Foundation for over five years and I think it's a great accounting system for construction. I've had an overall positive experience with Foundation.

Pros

Foundation has great customer service! Whenever I have a problem, all I need to do is give them a call and they will work with me to fix the problem. All the representatives are courteous and knowledgeable about the software. I also love the ease of use of Foundation. The software is organized and easy to navigate, once you get the hang of it. It has many useful reports for job costing, payroll, and accounts payables/receivables. I do payroll at my company and Foundation makes it easy. There are many Pre-Check Registers that I can look over before submitting to make sure no mistakes are made. The most useful report to me is the "Unpaid Employee" list. It's exactly like it sounds, it'll give you a list of current employees who don't have a paycheck for the week.

Cons

It did take me a while to understand the layout of Foundation. I do payroll now, and it is tedious to create a new union with different pay rates and fringe deductions, since you have to create a fringe deduction for each trade that you have.

Overall, I have been quite happy with Foundation. We've used it since 2017 and have never seen any reason to switch to anything else. Customer service is prompt in getting back to you.

Pros

The flexibility of reporting and being able to create custom reports, and the variability in entering several types of transactions.

Cons

The T&M Module's worksheets can be glitchy & inflexible. i.e. if you try to add a subcontractor invoice to the subcontractor tab, the worksheet will not include that invoice in the fee calculation (but it will on additions to any other tab).

Features that are easy to access and the overall guidance and help has been so tremendous. Our Company enjoys this specific software over many others.

Pros

Foundations has a great support team. If we need guidance for anything with the software or have any question they are fast to respond and happy to help us. It is easy to use and the webinar videos help tremendously. Documents are easy to access and track with the help of Foundations.

Cons

I am still on the learning curve so far I don't have anything that is my least favorite. I will continue to learn more and grow with this software and possibly in the future could have helpful remarks.

Our company has had a great experience with Foundation. It is easy to use and is specialized for construction.

Pros

Foundation Software has the technology to run various Financial Reports which aids in Bonding and Financing.

Cons

Foundation is not very forgiving. You can fix any errors, but you must follow strict procedures. This is the only issue I have had.

Do not like that i have to update all union pay rates in each company database - wish we could share this data between linked company's.

I love the U.S. based customer support and I love how they are rolling out updates, new features, and new products consistently.

Cons

The software and add-ons are expensive, so it can be difficult for a small business to take the leap from QuickBooks.

Overall it is a great system. There are several things I would change from an accounting perspective but it is a good system for construction if you use it correctly.

Pros

Customer support, Certified Payroll, Union Reporting, Data Genie reports, Overall it is a very integrated system.

Cons

\-Lack of ability to pay subs based on pay-when-paid. UPB has some good bones set up but it does not tie to AP to pay vendors well. Payments have to be tracked outside the system. -UPB does not allow retainage paid to be applied so the Project Status Paid Report at the end of a project always shows an unpaid balance. Should be able to apply so balance do is zero. -Lack of ability to easily apply cash to customer accounts when there is no invoice to apply to -Bank Deposits should happen before cash application

Personal experience, our construction company has been using it for 2.5 years now and I would give it a 5 out of 10 overall. I still feel like we could use training on this software...

Pros

My company uses foundations currently and I'm not overly impressed but if I had to choose one part to express positive feedback it would be reports you can pull from ar/ap/payroll. They give you the option to create your own reports if you'd like and easy rollbacks in AR system.

Cons

Just a few things i'm not impressed with is the customer service wait time, occasional software crashes, changes in settings, AIA Unit billing process, AP journal entry's after posted invoices, along with uploaded images into the accounting software are hard to get to.

### "Not a solid foundation for accounting systems"

Overall, I do not believe that Foundation is a user friendly program and their training is not very effective or helpful. If you have an issue and seek guidance from their customer service representative chances are you will have to figure it out yourself.

Pros

Foundations makes Payroll corrections easy to accomplish and I also that you can create and customize your own reports.

Cons

Their customer service takes a long time to respond and their representatives are not very knowledgeable about all aspects of the program.

All in all I think Foundation is promising and has great customer support. It does need to strengthen it's training and resources, become more intuitive, and get a facelift.

Pros

My favorite part of Foundation is their customer service, which is very responsive to user needs and helpful. I appreciate their one on one help and that they make it super easy to connect with a live person without hassle. They have always been super friendly and taken good care of us as well. Foundation is also a more affordable software than may others I have tried elsewhere.

Cons

I don't feel that the software is as intuitive and user-friendly as it could be. The help options within the system are dated, hard to search, and not user-friendly. Their training materials are also dated and need to be modernized with quick job aid reference guides and less 100+ page documents with too much text, not enough visuals, and way too much information overload. Their training definitely needs an overhaul. Most people don't have time to scan multi-hundred-page documents for an answer that could be solved in a quick searchable knowledgebase, job aid repository, AI assistant, etc., or watch an hour long video that inevitably won't answer their question either. There's also a lot of features in Foundation that are dated and designed in a way that slows the user down. I've also found that there's a lot that I don't know is even in there, which is a bummer because unless you get a really strong customer service agent on the phone, you will likely never know about features, as not all of them dive as deep into support as I wish.

Overall it has been a great experience and it is taking our company to the next level. We are learning so much! Foundation is giving us the backbone we need to be more established.

Pros

Foundation offers a variety of reports you can use for things like payroll, job costing and more. It is very helpful when it comes to fringe benefits and certified payroll. The implementation meetings are very informative and the staff is very kind and helpful. Overall very happy with this software purchase.

Cons

The format of the software seems outdated. I wish I could use AI to import information instead of manually typing info from DIR sheets.
