The software does take some getting used to, especially as an accountant and coming from a software such as quickbooks but once you get the hang of it it comes along pretty easily. Pros I like a lot of the integrated products that it offers. Customer Support is fantastic and great for when you need help doing things in the software. Cons The accounting software is difficult to use if you make mistakes and there are a lot of steps to undo and re-do transactions. I really hate that you have to put in a help desk ticket as well, instead of having on call support. Pros The price is very economical. I think it is geared towards smaller businesses, and can help them get the tools they need for a great price, but as the company grows I feel like Foundations does not do a great job of keeping up. Cons The modules don't speak to each other. I should be able to upload a CO, approve it, and have it appear in UP billing. We switched back to their P4C platform for payroll and it has been great. We have been with Foundation for 14 years and Foundation has had numerous updates to fulfill the Construction world. Pros Customer Support is always willing to help and understand when there is a priority issues/question. There are multiple ways to get assistance when needed. Accounting and bookkeeping houses all the accounting data organizing and streamlined within the system. Billing and payments are 4/5 user friendly on Accounts Receivable part of the system. Accounts Payable is user friendly. Cons What I like least would have to be needing to click 3 different modules for the Accounts Payable to enter and process a payment. July 24, 2025 5.0 I have been working with Foundation for the last 13 years all with my current company, when I was interviewing for my position I saw they had Foundation and I did a little research and found out how powerful the system could be and I was excited. Pros Foundation software is very easy to use. From invoices received to bills going out the door it is done very quickly. You can customize your financial statements. We have found that is is a great value for the money. Then top it all off with the excellent customer support. Cons I have not found any cons to the system, they value your input during user conferences and get ahead of any and all issues that might arise. It’s incredibly powerful and truly built with contractors in mind, but you do have to commit to solid processes and proper user training to get the most out of it. When your team understands job-cost accounting and stays consistent with workflows, Foundation really shines. But if you’re looking for something ultra-modern, cloud-native, and “effortless” to use, it can sometimes feel a bit rigid or dated. Pros Foundation has several great features-one of my favorites includes the ability to generate very detailed reports with drill down features. The software is easy to use and learn, plus it comes with helpful links to research the topics I need help with. Cons There are not many features I do not like about Foundation; if I had to pick one, it would be the view of the interface. Program makes monthly billing a breeze and has reduced overall time with built in bids for jobs Pros Variety of reports, built in AIA format and unit price for billing, ability to add modules as our company grows Cons Unable to expand fields where information gets cut off i.e. Items on estimate bids sometimes the characters get cut off when we have multiple types of curb. Pros I like how well it works with the construction industry. It is very good as far as tracking hours in payroll. Cons The scrolling on reports is difficult. One of my biggest complaints is the length of time it takes to get a call from support. We recently started using document imaging and have run into several hurdles to prevent us from moving forward and have to wait a couple days for a call once logging a call. Review Source DH Donna H. I have worked with various accounting packages over the last 30 years and Foundation is truly the best! I would never change to something else. They are always upgrading to keep us current. Pros Foundation accounting software is a great value. The customer support is a rapid turnaround with their highly knowledgeable staff. All aspects of our accounting is covered... Payroll, GL, AP, Construction / AIA billing and of course tracking. There isn't anything I feel I am missing on a day to day basis. If you need to be more knowledgeable.. they have classes, seminars, books, etc. You are always covered. Cons There is hardly anything I can say I like least about foundation other than the computer software is smarter than me! August 26, 2025 5.0 I think Foundation is such an asset for the price - it seems to cover all aspects of our company and our needs. We just recently started consulting with a Foundation specialist and that has helped us so much with the controls and sequences that are being calculated in the background of the system. Pros I love that Foundation offers so many different "modules" to cover anything from new construction jobs to service dispatch jobs. I also love that you can control what each user has the ability to see/use. We have many different trades at our company and Foundation software is the best to keep it all under one umbrella. Cons Foundation is an awesome tool if it is set up correctly in the beginning. I came to work at our company years after the set up, so employees were set in their ways with coding, etc. but there was a lot of manual entry/reporting still being done externally on spreadsheets, etc. that I feel could have been avoided if set up correctly in the beginning. The crew that we had come onsite spend almost all of their time fixing things just to get us online and not any training. The conversion from QuickBooks to Foundation was not as simple as it was described. Pros Certified payroll is a huge win. The program can be very flexible but at times this can also be a downfall because there are too many options. Cons Where do I start. Project HQ, Executive HQ, Crew HQ were huge disappointments and not at all what we were shown, thought we were getting. Mobile is always having issues. I would like a better way to record capitalized repairs on our construction equipment. Eveyone here seems to really like it Pros I love the tracking reports in foundations. Foundations is pretty easy to use. Sending our invoicing to contractors is really simple. I have had a great experience implementing and using this product over that time. Pros Solid platform. Easy to navigate. Simplistic in it's approach but not in it's capability. Great customer support. Cons Hosted product can be affected by technical issues with the internet or web services vendor. There are some limitations or work arounds that have to be used compared to other software products. Probably shouldn't be use for a larger company. I've been using using Foundation for over 15 years and vits very simple to use and definitely fail proof. Pros Foundation is vfail proof. Foundation helps you to make sure that everything is entered correctly. It definitely helps in Accounts Payable side. Foundation prevents duplicate entering and makes sure you put the correct cost code according to the PO. Cons At times it seems as if Foundation crashes, especially when your recording a large PO. Pros I like how the team is well versed in the product. When I speak with a team member they often show me multiple solutions. I do like the portal with videos and FAQ. I do like that it is very rare to malfunction. Cons One of the parts of foundation that needs improvement is the workers compensation and general liability components. There isn't a lot of flexibility or options there. There is only one report so no way to look at it from a different angle. The software was very easy to learn and is very easy to use! Pros I have always bragged about their great customer service and the quick response time. I can Log A Call and get the help I need and if they are not able to help they make sure that some one who can help calls back within a reasonable time Cons That we cannot get Whiting Turners AIA as part of the Receivable package. I also would like to be able to run reports that would help me with my Workman's Comp audit, for example how much I have paid my subcontractors per project.
