We are very pleased with the software and the longtime relationship we have. Pros We have been using Foundation for over 15 years. We are a construction company with different projects and the job costing feature, specially ther WIP report are perfect. We also are very pleased with customer service. Cons I wish the bank and foundation would sync. It is tedious to have to enter transactions mannually every month to reconcile accounts. The crew that we had come onsite spend almost all of their time fixing things just to get us online and not any training. The conversion from QuickBooks to Foundation was not as simple as it was described. Pros Certified payroll is a huge win. The program can be very flexible but at times this can also be a downfall because there are too many options. Cons Where do I start. Project HQ, Executive HQ, Crew HQ were huge disappointments and not at all what we were shown, thought we were getting. Mobile is always having issues. I would recommend this product for companies with sales up to approx $50 Million Pros Foundation is very easy to use and it helps automate the allocation processes and is a one stop shop with Fixed Assets, Job Costs, Payroll Functions Cons I liked least not being able to go back into accounts payable and change the invoice number or GL coding. This makes it difficult to reverse transactions that are incorrect or if the controller reviews the coding later and wants to adjust it. QB was fine when our company was small but now that we have grown Foundations is what we need. Pros Once you get the hang of it, it is smooth sailing. The more you use the easier it is to remember all the steps you have to do. Cons Our training was really not up to par. Pros The capabilities to enter timecards breaking out to different jobs and wages fairly easily. Job tracking. Cons THE REPORTS!!!!!! You need to consolidate your reports and maybe have FAR FEWER REPORTS that you can maybe just change the criteria to show what your looking for. Should be able to go in to a customer, a vendor or an employee and see their complete history, payments, billings, check numbers, paid dates, etc etc etc. Spend soooooooo much time looking for specific things. The support provided is superior. Pros Never having used Foundation before, it was easy to pick up and very user-friendly. Once I started thinking like a database, it was easy to figure out how Foundation was treating different transactions. Cons The fact that you cannot "delete" incorrect transactions. I realize that this would eliminate the audit trail, but sometimes it would be nice just to delete a transaction as if it never happened in the first place. I can Log A Call and get the help I need and if they are not able to help they make sure that some one who can help calls back within a reasonable time Cons That we cannot get Whiting Turners AIA as part of the Receivable package. I also would like to be able to run reports that would help me with my Workman's Comp audit, for example how much I have paid my subcontractors per project. Now that I've worked on it for several years, I love it. Pros Foundation is easy to use once you get used to it. Tracks everything in one place. No need for paper work orders that get lost or hard to read handwriting. From WO creation to billing and statements. It's all in one place. Document imaging also lets you save everything under the specific client or job such as Tax Exempt forms to quotes, proposals and even vendor receipts. It's all in one place. Cons The time it takes for support to call you back on issues, that is my least favorite thing about foundation. Pros I like how the team is well versed in the product. When I speak with a team member they often show me multiple solutions. I do like the portal with videos and FAQ. I do like that it is very rare to malfunction. Cons One of the parts of foundation that needs improvement is the workers compensation and general liability components. There isn't a lot of flexibility or options there. There is only one report so no way to look at it from a different angle. There’s also a small variety of user instructions available for troubleshooting; most issues require calling support and waiting for a callback instead of finding clear guidance online. Pros Foundation is easy to navigate, there's little to no need for add ons. We've looked into other software and Foundation is a great value for the money. I really like the correction feature in payroll. Foundations customer support is knowledgeable and prompt with solutions. Cons Foundation is lacking in HR. Unable to view W-2's in eAccess. I have had a great experience implementing and using this product over that time. Pros Solid platform. Easy to navigate. Simplistic in it's approach but not in it's capability. Great customer support. Cons Hosted product can be affected by technical issues with the internet or web services vendor. There are some limitations or work arounds that have to be used compared to other software products. Probably shouldn't be use for a larger company. Pros Functionality for certified payroll. Retention is easy to track in Payables and receivables. I like that we can export reports in several formats, and can drill down in so many places. Creating custom lists is easy. Cons Unit Price Billing is cumbersome and takes time to set up. The equipment module needs work. We have to use another program to track equipment costs and maintenance schedules. My goal this year is to be available to attend the webinars / best practices to utilize the software capabilities better and / or learn something I did not know to improve efficiency. Pros Foundation is extremely user friendly and easy to train new employees on how to use the software. Cons I would like to see increased character space in some areas, for example the job description field. With significant inflation these past few years, especially since COVID, the average inventory price is misleading in the system as it is calculated from the beginning of time, which is typically not what is reflected in actual current costs. We are constantly reviewing billing to manually adjust the prices for certain inventory items. April 24, 2025 3.0 The bugs that don't get fixed are a big hinderance. There are many issues that I feel should not exist within any platform and feel that they aren't elevated quick enough or tended to at all. Expenses disappearing in the cloud for example. I do however appreciate the mostly seamless process of completing payroll. There are a few things I would like to see changed but for the most part it's an easy process as far as syncing and exporting goes. Pros It's an all in one platform making it easy to do back office tasks. The payroll syncing is an easy process and I appreciate the fringes master board making fringes easy to update from year to year. Cons It's inability to integrate with other platforms and lack of reporting options to export. There are lots of bugs. I am unable to track peoples wage history without manually typing it in and cannot report on it only view it. Accounts Payable Construction Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Accounts Payable Review" October 17, 2025 4.0 Overall, I think it's a good product that just needs a few modifications to be a really great, more efficient product Pros Invoice entry is relatively user friendly if the system is working properly, and the check payments work pretty well, although I'd love to see some seamless integration with Deluxe eChecks to simplify our process. Cons The POs can be entered without meeting the invoice requirements, causing issues for invoice entry if the PO has missing or incorrect fields. There are also issues with invoices that were entered from POs that have been revised. The software is also often glitchy and slow and lagging or kicking the user out randomly. While you do have to wait for a call back (usually happens within 24 hours) you get an expert who knows the software and accounting needs. Your issue will be resolved quickly. Pros Foundation has a unique ability to cope (quite well) with the complex Union / Prevailing Wage environment in construction accounting. Cons Some of the UI is clunky and not user friendly.
