July 28, 2025 5.0 My overall experience with Foundation has been good, I have been pretty much self-taught to use the software by trial and error, videos and reading the manuals provided. I enjoy using Foundation on a daily basis and all that can be done within the software, I am still learning a lot with this software and all of the functions available. Pros I like all of the features for reports and ease of use for entering invoices in accounts payable and receivables. Document imaging is probably what I like most about Foundation, being able to bring up any invoice or document that is needed. Cons The amount of steps it takes to enter invoices in payables and receivables, or print checks. I understand this as a preventative to ensure errors aren't made. The worst is if you do make a mistake and trying to get it corrected is not always easy...a nice easy "delete" option is sometimes needed for those bad days. Eveyone here seems to really like it Pros I love the tracking reports in foundations. Foundations is pretty easy to use. Sending our invoicing to contractors is really simple. Cons I don't like that things purged can't be retrieved by anyone. It would be nice if we would be able to have someone to unpurge.... Pros Foundation is easy to navigate, there's little to no need for add ons. We've looked into other software and Foundation is a great value for the money. I really like the correction feature in payroll. Foundations customer support is knowledgeable and prompt with solutions. Cons Foundation is lacking in HR. Unable to view W-2's in eAccess. Now that I've worked on it for several years, I love it. Pros Foundation is easy to use once you get used to it. Tracks everything in one place. No need for paper work orders that get lost or hard to read handwriting. From WO creation to billing and statements. It's all in one place. Document imaging also lets you save everything under the specific client or job such as Tax Exempt forms to quotes, proposals and even vendor receipts. It's all in one place. Cons The time it takes for support to call you back on issues, that is my least favorite thing about foundation. Pros I like how the team is well versed in the product. When I speak with a team member they often show me multiple solutions. I do like the portal with videos and FAQ. I do like that it is very rare to malfunction. Cons One of the parts of foundation that needs improvement is the workers compensation and general liability components. There isn't a lot of flexibility or options there. There is only one report so no way to look at it from a different angle. The client support team is helpful and knowledgeable, though resolving some issues or questions can occasionally take a few days. Cons There’s a lack of built-in BI tools, and the reporting features are limited data is flat and not easily customizable or interactive. There’s also a small variety of user instructions available for troubleshooting; most issues require calling support and waiting for a callback instead of finding clear guidance online. I've been using using Foundation for over 15 years and vits very simple to use and definitely fail proof. Pros Foundation is vfail proof. Foundation helps you to make sure that everything is entered correctly. It definitely helps in Accounts Payable side. Foundation prevents duplicate entering and makes sure you put the correct cost code according to the PO. Cons At times it seems as if Foundation crashes, especially when your recording a large PO. The support provided is superior. Pros Never having used Foundation before, it was easy to pick up and very user-friendly. Once I started thinking like a database, it was easy to figure out how Foundation was treating different transactions. Cons The fact that you cannot "delete" incorrect transactions. I realize that this would eliminate the audit trail, but sometimes it would be nice just to delete a transaction as if it never happened in the first place. Cons The data entry is more time consuming but becomes more natural with experience. We are cash based and have run into some problems with the balance sheet not balancing. I like that it does all the heavy lifting for Payroll and Accounts Payable and Receivable. Pros Customer Support is always really on point for helping me resolve my issues. They are great educators as well. Cons The awkwardness of making Genies and Forms. I don't feel that that process is very user-friendly. Also, not the best interface to use with Mac computers. The software was very easy to learn and is very easy to use! Pros I have always bragged about their great customer service and the quick response time. I can Log A Call and get the help I need and if they are not able to help they make sure that some one who can help calls back within a reasonable time Cons That we cannot get Whiting Turners AIA as part of the Receivable package. I also would like to be able to run reports that would help me with my Workman's Comp audit, for example how much I have paid my subcontractors per project. Trying to change anything is an absolute bear so you have to get things right the first time. If you information is completely accurate and you've learned where everything is, it is a great job costing platform. Learning the software is the most frustrating part. I wish there were videos or short guides that you could read on it. I cannot find what I need it the giant manual. Pros Foundation is a powerful system that has a lot of functions that cross making data accurate. In addition, the ability to create any report you would like is very convenient. Cons Once you understand how to use foundation, it is very useful. However, to get to that point is difficult. There aren't videos or short learning guides to the problems you have. You just have to work through the system and maybe find you answer. This software is not great for first time users. Cons The POs can be entered without meeting the invoice requirements, causing issues for invoice entry if the PO has missing or incorrect fields. There are also issues with invoices that were entered from POs that have been revised. The software is also often glitchy and slow and lagging or kicking the user out randomly. Pros Functionality for certified payroll. Retention is easy to track in Payables and receivables. I like that we can export reports in several formats, and can drill down in so many places. Creating custom lists is easy. Cons Unit Price Billing is cumbersome and takes time to set up. The equipment module needs work. We have to use another program to track equipment costs and maintenance schedules. My goal this year is to be available to attend the webinars / best practices to utilize the software capabilities better and / or learn something I did not know to improve efficiency. Pros Foundation is extremely user friendly and easy to train new employees on how to use the software. Cons I would like to see increased character space in some areas, for example the job description field. With significant inflation these past few years, especially since COVID, the average inventory price is misleading in the system as it is calculated from the beginning of time, which is typically not what is reflected in actual current costs. We are constantly reviewing billing to manually adjust the prices for certain inventory items. There are a few things that would be helpful if they were added but overall, it is a good accounting and payroll platform. While you do have to wait for a call back (usually happens within 24 hours) you get an expert who knows the software and accounting needs. Your issue will be resolved quickly. Pros Foundation has a unique ability to cope (quite well) with the complex Union / Prevailing Wage environment in construction accounting. Cons Some of the UI is clunky and not user friendly. Cons When using cloud-based software, internet connectivity can be frustrating at certain times. But this would be true of any program. Payroll and Admin Construction Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "All in 1 platform with a few kinks to workout." April 24, 2025 3.0 The bugs that don't get fixed are a big hinderance. There are many issues that I feel should not exist within any platform and feel that they aren't elevated quick enough or tended to at all. Expenses disappearing in the cloud for example. I do however appreciate the mostly seamless process of completing payroll. There are a few things I would like to see changed but for the most part it's an easy process as far as syncing and exporting goes. Pros It's an all in one platform making it easy to do back office tasks. The payroll syncing is an easy process and I appreciate the fringes master board making fringes easy to update from year to year. Cons It's inability to integrate with other platforms and lack of reporting options to export. There are lots of bugs. I am unable to track peoples wage history without manually typing it in and cannot report on it only view it. Pros Being able to track the overall companies performance with accurate job costing. Cons Logging in that requires two two passwords, constant changing of them as well as it randomly going off line. The paystubs that are provided thru the system are not accepted at certain agencies. Pros It feels like a basic system. Easy to use and navigate. Most of the functions work as you would imagine. Cons The customer service takes a long time to get back to you even when I am on a time crunch due to payroll processing. Pros Tracking job progress is one of the best features of the product. I like the fact that you see the comparisons of estimated costs vs actual. Cons I would like more control with the reports as far as filters. As a bookkeeper, it is important to search certain parameters for reporting.
