I have been working with Foundation for the last 13 years all with my current company, when I was interviewing for my position I saw they had Foundation and I did a little research and found out how powerful the system could be and I was excited.

Pros

Foundation software is very easy to use. From invoices received to bills going out the door it is done very quickly. You can customize your financial statements. We have found that is is a great value for the money. Then top it all off with the excellent customer support.

Cons

I have not found any cons to the system, they value your input during user conferences and get ahead of any and all issues that might arise.

I love using Foundation! The software is not hard to learn, and customer service is always there to help.

Pros

Foundation is very user friendly, and the customer service is top notch! It keeps all of our accounting straight with one software. You can scan documents into Foundation for employee files, billings, payments. So all you have to do is go to one place to look for everything.

Cons

There are some simple thing I wish I could do in Foundation. I would love to open a job and go to the next without having to close the job. A service profitability report would be nice for a service side. Like I said it is minor things.

### "Accounting Software that needs an update"

Overall it has been a decent experience, many things left to be desired but does enough to keep our business going smoothly.

Pros

We like that Foundation offers an Equipment module that allows us to track items at the EQ level and by service code. Tracking fuel purchases against equipment is very important for grading companies and it appears most places like to do it at the GL level instead of equipment level so it is nice that it works directly in the system.

Cons

There is a large amount of inflexibility with Foundation. Custom reports are very limited and even though you capture a lot of information at all levels of operation there is not an easy to way to get the information you want. We also haven't seen a quality of life Software improvement in 7 years and it has largely stayed the same. Seems their preferred method of updates is to buy another software and try to bolt it on but still doesn't fix the underlying problem that the accounting system could use some updates.

I like it, the cost keeps going up and now everything is an add on. But I like that it offers a lot of different components like the pr taxes and w2 filings.

Pros

it was easy to learn and use. The support team are great and the online help by topics are really good. I also know that if I do need help, I can have Support help me, support is the key, they get back to me very fast! I like how some support people really know what they're doing in Foundations and have knowledge in taxes and construction accounting. It's helpful!!!

Cons

Trying to make custom reports, not having a lot of different elements to create a report. Not being able to reprint some of payroll reports.

We have been very pleased with the software, the level of customer service and the price point as well. I have and would recommend Foundation Software to others.

Pros

Foundation Software has great customer service and support. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The cost of the software is a great value for the capabilities of the software and it room for growth that has allowed us to scale up in our business.

Cons

We are opting in to new products/add Ons as Foundation has been offering them such HRHQ, Foundation Pay, Safety HQ. There have been growing pains and sometime these have been clunky or down. I would hope that Foundation allocates more resources to these new products to help ensure that they are successful and we can continue to utilize them.

Implementation leadership we worked with (\[sensitive content hidden\]) is an A+ team player who understands the dynamics of change-management theory, along with enough accounting and technical skill to master the transition.

Pros

Well-designed for construction industry company in the Goldilocks range of size - too many are either for small businesses (not properly job-costing, can't handle multi-union payroll) or for large corporations (where I'd need to triple my staff just for the data entry). Foundation has a great niche in between.

Cons

Some of the more "modern" features are gatekept in their ProjectHQ separate module - would be nice to see these not only integrated from a price perspective, but overall into the functionality of the system and not a separate entry.

My overall experience with Foundation Software has been positive. The system is tailored to the construction industry, which makes many complex accounting and payroll tasks easier to manage. While there is a learning curve, once you become familiar with the platform it provides reliable tools for job costing, reporting, and payroll compliance. The software is stable, and the support team is generally always helpful when assistance is needed. Overall, it has strengthened our ability to track project performance and maintain accurate financial records.

Pros

I like most about Foundation Software is how well it supports the construction industry. The job-costing and payroll tools are extremely detailed, and the reporting features make it easy to understand project performance. It’s reliable, industry-specific, and gives our team the information we need to manage projects more confidently. There isn't a single day goes by that we are not using this software for all our needs. Foundation gave us the comfort of running a solid company.

Cons

I like least about Foundation Software is that the system can feel outdated. Certain tasks take longer than expected, and the learning curve is fairly steep, which can make it challenging for new users to become fully comfortable with the software. Additionally, some reports and features lack the level of customization our team needs. Support is generally helpful but sometimes difficult to reach during busy periods.

Overall, I have been quite happy with Foundation. We've used it since 2017 and have never seen any reason to switch to anything else. Customer service is prompt in getting back to you.

Pros

The flexibility of reporting and being able to create custom reports, and the variability in entering several types of transactions.

Cons

The T&M Module's worksheets can be glitchy & inflexible. i.e. if you try to add a subcontractor invoice to the subcontractor tab, the worksheet will not include that invoice in the fee calculation (but it will on additions to any other tab).

We've been very happy with Foundation. It has saved hours of entry and reporting, especially at month and year end!

Pros

Foundation is a great fit for a small to midsized business that needs more than a Quickbooks type program can offer, but not as much as the expensive and big ERP systems. In Foundation you have several billing types to choose from depending on the needs of your customers. The drill down feature from reports easily give you the detail you need. Document imaging let's you scan and store documents so that they are at your fingertips. No more huge filing cabinets. Great customer service.

Cons

There is not a function that I've found yet that I dislike. We have been using Foundation since 2018 and still find ways to tweak our operating processes.

Overall, we are happy with the software as it functions as a solid accounting software. I would love to have a more user-friendly interface (drag and drop), but overall Foundation is a good software product. Support is helpful whenever I need assistance which gives me the confidence in relying on the product for our business needs. I would recommend the software for other small construction/contracting companies.

Pros

Customer Service, particularly in the area of phone support, is excellent. The call back time is usually minimal and the support/assistance always exceeds expectations. Issues are address with patience and clear, easy to understand directions. Product Development has been improving making the product easier to use.

Cons

Initially, I was disappointed in the set up/training as a new user. The sessions felt unorganized and chaotic making it difficult to follow and learn. Cost of the software is not highly favorable, but the software itself is a good product and functions well.

Cons

It needs to be more streamlined; example, researching transactions needs more hyperlinks rather than having to open different reports manually. Routing invoice process is cumbersome

Personal experience, our construction company has been using it for 2.5 years now and I would give it a 5 out of 10 overall. I still feel like we could use training on this software...

Pros

My company uses foundations currently and I'm not overly impressed but if I had to choose one part to express positive feedback it would be reports you can pull from ar/ap/payroll. They give you the option to create your own reports if you'd like and easy rollbacks in AR system.

Cons

Just a few things i'm not impressed with is the customer service wait time, occasional software crashes, changes in settings, AIA Unit billing process, AP journal entry's after posted invoices, along with uploaded images into the accounting software are hard to get to.

Pros

The ease of use is better than the precious product our company used. The financial reports are reliable and simple to produce.

Cons

There are some glitches in the everyday tasks that have never been corrected. I have called support and was told they are being worked on. I would like a better way to record capitalized repairs on our construction equipment.

I've used Foundation for over five years and I think it's a great accounting system for construction. I've had an overall positive experience with Foundation.

Pros

Foundation has great customer service! Whenever I have a problem, all I need to do is give them a call and they will work with me to fix the problem. All the representatives are courteous and knowledgeable about the software. I also love the ease of use of Foundation. The software is organized and easy to navigate, once you get the hang of it. It has many useful reports for job costing, payroll, and accounts payables/receivables. I do payroll at my company and Foundation makes it easy. There are many Pre-Check Registers that I can look over before submitting to make sure no mistakes are made. The most useful report to me is the "Unpaid Employee" list. It's exactly like it sounds, it'll give you a list of current employees who don't have a paycheck for the week.

Cons

It did take me a while to understand the layout of Foundation. I do payroll now, and it is tedious to create a new union with different pay rates and fringe deductions, since you have to create a fringe deduction for each trade that you have.

All in all I think Foundation is promising and has great customer support. It does need to strengthen it's training and resources, become more intuitive, and get a facelift.

Pros

My favorite part of Foundation is their customer service, which is very responsive to user needs and helpful. I appreciate their one on one help and that they make it super easy to connect with a live person without hassle. They have always been super friendly and taken good care of us as well. Foundation is also a more affordable software than may others I have tried elsewhere.

Cons

I don't feel that the software is as intuitive and user-friendly as it could be. The help options within the system are dated, hard to search, and not user-friendly. Their training materials are also dated and need to be modernized with quick job aid reference guides and less 100+ page documents with too much text, not enough visuals, and way too much information overload. Their training definitely needs an overhaul. Most people don't have time to scan multi-hundred-page documents for an answer that could be solved in a quick searchable knowledgebase, job aid repository, AI assistant, etc., or watch an hour long video that inevitably won't answer their question either. There's also a lot of features in Foundation that are dated and designed in a way that slows the user down. I've also found that there's a lot that I don't know is even in there, which is a bummer because unless you get a really strong customer service agent on the phone, you will likely never know about features, as not all of them dive as deep into support as I wish.

I applied for my job in my current position because of Foundation! Back in 2012 I worked for a company that decided to come on board with Foundation and I got to be involved in that process. When I saw an Office Manager position at my current company open up, I not only knew I would have the knowledge to do the job, but excel and really elevate the accounting side of the business. It had also been several years since I got to work in Foundation, and I knew I would be rusty, but because of the excellent customer service I knew they could help me out of any situation I got myself in!

Pros

Easy to use. Almost all modules are set up the same with Daily, Maintenance and Reporting. Almost all reports export out into Excel so you can make a spreadsheet like a pro. Their customer support is fantastic! Every time I get in a bind or have an issue, they have found a way to bail me out!

Cons

Its very rare, but just like any other software it can be glitchy. Even then it usually isn't a big issue.

My overall experience is payroll, AP, AR, and Job Costing. The ease of running monthend reports are a breeze, along with year end reports. Financials are also easy to run.

Pros

The best thing about Foundation is how it interacts with Job Costing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and it seems seamless.

Cons

The least thing I like about Foundation is that when you go into the invoices in each Vendor, look at another window, it goes back to the beginning of the invoice numbers.

From my experience, Foundation Software is one of the strongest accounting systems out there for construction companies—especially those that depend on accurate job cost reporting, complex payroll, and tight cost tracking. It’s incredibly powerful and truly built with contractors in mind, but you do have to commit to solid processes and proper user training to get the most out of it. When your team understands job-cost accounting and stays consistent with workflows, Foundation really shines. But if you’re looking for something ultra-modern, cloud-native, and “effortless” to use, it can sometimes feel a bit rigid or dated.

Pros

Foundation has several great features-one of my favorites includes the ability to generate very detailed reports with drill down features. The software is easy to use and learn, plus it comes with helpful links to research the topics I need help with.

Cons

There are not many features I do not like about Foundation; if I had to pick one, it would be the view of the interface. Although it has a simple and straightforward design, it does tend to feel outdated.

Customer service is 99% of the time pleasant and helpful. Have always assisted and usually walk away with more information than I expected to assist with utilizing Foundation more easily.

Pros

Foundation is a useful tool. As a newer user, with 1 year history, I find that the basic AP and AR functions are easy to learn. The payroll is still an aspect of the program that I find has lots and lots of steps to process payroll. I like all the options or additional functions that are available, but the added costs of each function prohibits our company from reviewing or even adding the additional functions.

Cons

Payroll processing has a lot of steps. Would like to see a more informative how to for setting up the payroll and processing payroll. Wish the reports(Genie) would be more simple to produce.

### ""Foundation" Why would you not choose the best?"

Overall my experience with foundation is an A+ as I have been working with this software for 9 years and counting. I have worked with various accounting packages over the last 30 years and Foundation is truly the best! I would never change to something else. They are always upgrading to keep us current.

Pros

Foundation accounting software is a great value. The customer support is a rapid turnaround with their highly knowledgeable staff. All aspects of our accounting is covered... Payroll, GL, AP, Construction / AIA billing and of course tracking. There isn't anything I feel I am missing on a day to day basis. If you need to be more knowledgeable.. they have classes, seminars, books, etc. You are always covered.

Cons

There is hardly anything I can say I like least about foundation other than the computer software is smarter than me! Lol

### "Foundation is the complete accounting software."

My overall experience with Foundation has been good, I have been pretty much self-taught to use the software by trial and error, videos and reading the manuals provided. I enjoy using Foundation on a daily basis and all that can be done within the software, I am still learning a lot with this software and all of the functions available.

Pros

I like all of the features for reports and ease of use for entering invoices in accounts payable and receivables. Document imaging is probably what I like most about Foundation, being able to bring up any invoice or document that is needed.

Cons

The amount of steps it takes to enter invoices in payables and receivables, or print checks. I understand this as a preventative to ensure errors aren't made. The worst is if you do make a mistake and trying to get it corrected is not always easy...a nice easy "delete" option is sometimes needed for those bad days.

### "Fail proof software!"

Foundation is a great construction software comparable to quickbooks but better. I've been using using Foundation for over 15 years and vits very simple to use and definitely fail proof.

Pros

Foundation is vfail proof. Foundation helps you to make sure that everything is entered correctly. It definitely helps in Accounts Payable side. Foundation prevents duplicate entering and makes sure you put the correct cost code according to the PO.

Cons

At times it seems as if Foundation crashes, especially when your recording a large PO. Its to the point where you literally need get out (sign out) of Foundation and log back for it to work properly.

### "Honest Foundation Review! "

Pros

I like the functionality of Foundation. The Document Management is really helpful - especially with the volume of payables and documents we're housing. I really like the layout of the windows itself. Working in and out of other software makes me realize how nicely laid out Foundation is.

Cons

I wish there was a support chat feature or a way to schedule a support call at a specific time. It's frustrating sometimes needing to wait on support to call you back which can take up to a day - especially when it's something urgent.

### "Solid FOUNDATION"

I cannot imagine accounting without this software. The ease to enter invoices, pay invoices, documentation attachment for each entry - all just makes the job smoother to do.

Pros

Ease of use, billing and payments, document management, tutorials, webinars, customer service are just a few. But one of my fav personal things - the Christmas cards! The best, creative and always comical. So many amazing things about Foundations.

Cons

Nothing, it is wonderful to use! I having been using Foundations for 2+ years and with each passing day I am grateful to have such an accounting system available which makes the job so much smoother.
