It gives me one more valuable thing to do in a quarterly meeting rather than just discussing investments. Helping clients save money on taxes makes sense, and it's good planning. Pros If you do true wealth management or comprehensive financial planning, tax planning is critical. Too many advisors shy away from it or resort to the "check with your CPA" hokum. Most CPAs are trying to help clients minimize taxes today. This software enables you to find ways to help clients minimize taxes over their lifetime - something most CPAs don't do. It helps identify optimal strategies to realize capital gains, do Roth conversions, and more. More importantly, it produces client-friendly reports that help clients visualize the concepts. They also have a great client-facing presentation. Cons There is a bit of a learning curve understanding how to read the Tax Map. Also, when clients have certain income or expenses, in some cases the software doesn't recognize it. However, with the constant improvements, this may have changed already. The clients like the reports and the system is relatively easy to use. Pros Easy to use. Works for most but not all clients. Clients understand it when I show them the report etc.. Cons IT doesn't work for many of my (IE) Business owner clients. It also doesn't let items like the $300.00 deduction be entered so the report is wrong for most people for 2021. Pros The software is very accurate when calculating taxes. Only takes a few minutes to enter the information and the printouts are easy to read. Cons I think an option for calculating self employment taxes would be beneficial. Reason for choosing Tax Clarity I don't remember for sure, but I believe it was recommended to me. " July 2, 2020 4.0 Tax clarity makes it easy for clients to understand the ramifications of their decisions. Pros I actually like the older version better than the current one. The new version isn't as intuitive or easy to use. Cons The new version lacks the simplistic nature of the original. You had a good tool and degraded it with your newer version. Being able to run "What If" scenarios is key to retirement income planning. When it comes to your Social Security, no one what's to give a large portion of that back to Uncle Sam. July 7, 2020 4.0 Overall, I consider it a very valuable tool in our tech stack. The client facing materials make it very easy to show the client why we are suggesting potential strategies and they are on board quickly as a result. Pros Tax Clarity has certainly added another dimension to my practice. As I specialize in retirement, I can quickly and easily load tax information into their software and determine the impact of different sources of income as well as identify potential opportunities for Roth conversions. Cons The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is the output which often illustrates various spikes in tax rates. The software does not identify what combinations of income produced the spike and you are left to your own devices figure out why as well as try an explain it to the client. Cons cost. clunky. output print is not great. trying to reuse client data in future years doesn't work. try to find resources to help on website is incredibly difficult. Cons As far as I know, there is no way to project taxes into the future or give multiple tax scenarios. That is something I would like to be able to see in the software. I called in and the person I spoke with verified the software needed fixed on this issue Pros This product has been helpful working with clients on various tax strategies and financial moves. I plan to keep this as part of our practice. Cons The new software does not give the % change of tax like the old one did. You can run side by side comparisons, but on the old one I could make a quick change and see the direct impact of that move. I miss that feature. Pros Tax Clarity gives me, as an advisor, the ability to show people in graphic form how their financial decisions impact their income taxes. It is brilliant! It makes it easy for clients to understand complex tax rules and the impact those rules have on their personal finances. Cons It can be challenging doing all the data entry, it would be nice if it followed the 1040 tax forms a little more. Pros The software is quick and easy to use. It provides an advisor with a quick way to give a client a ballpark look at their effective and marginal tax rates. It's also helpful with Roth Conversions and MAGI numbers for knowing when a client can make Roth IRA contributions. Cons Occasional software glitches. I’ve had to reboot. I don’t use the software in real-time with clients. Pros It really shows the advisor and client what is being paid in federal income taxes--including taxes on social security income and higher medicare premiums. Cons The client report does not easily show the client how to pay less income taxes. It is better to print the screen shot to show the lower income taxes.
