We engaged with TestGorilla hoping for a full trial of both personality and technical assessments as an alternative to Predictive Index. Although their UI looked great and responses were fast, we never received trial access to the complete suite. That limited visibility into core features left us feeling undervalued and unable to properly evaluate the product.

Pros

TestGorilla has a modern, intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate. Their pricing is competitive, and their support team was quick to respond to emails.

Cons

The free trial is very limited—we never got full access to the personality or technical assessments we needed. The core tools felt too basic, and despite frequent emails, the sales rep couldn’t unlock the features we requested.

### "Good but subscription model is ver misleading"

Dissapointing. We should have used other tools. Or we should have designed our test in house. We are a start up with less than 20 people.

Pros

The tool worked, the tests are good and features are well developed. Easy to use. Good cheating detection. Good process, good performance of the app.

Cons

As a team of <20 people, We're shocked when we completed 1 hire and asked for cancellation. The subscription model was misleading — we thought it was monthly, but only afterward learned it was a locked 12-month contract. We finished our hire and emailed support almost 20 times begging for cancellation or a fair solution, but were only offered a rigid 3-month pause. Now we’re stuck paying for a service we don’t use. For a platform calling itself startup-friendly, this feels deeply misaligned. Clearer communication and flexible options are badly needed.

### "Not customer centric and inflexible"

Pros

Functionality that they offer is quite available and needed, and it seems like they have everything I need.

Cons

It seems like they have everything I need, but they only offer contracts that are quite pricey. If you're hiring your first employee, and you actually don't need this service for a year, customer support is quite disappointed too. It takes them so long to answer, and they just don't get you. One more thing: when I spoke to their salesperson during the demo call, he didn't even know about all options they offer. For example, in my case, he didn't know that they offer some special terms to VC-based startups.

It was okay, we asked our applicants for feedback and they thought it was exhausting and overwhelming.

Pros

The availability of tests and ability to personalize tests as needed for our organization. It is nice to monitor tests from dashboard.

Cons

That you had to commit to an annual agreement, could not delete only archive applicants that you gave tests to (if using TEST applicants - still had to see them on dashboard).

With objective and fair skill-testing, TestGorilla simplifies the process of skill-testing, but saving options and the process of playing back should be improved.

Pros

TestGorilla offers a practical and suitable method to measure the working skills, not leaving impressions. The fairness of evaluation is appreciated on the platform and it has always helped me spot good candidates.

Cons

The playback pace settings were also slightly awkward in reviewing the responses of several candidates.

### "Disappointing experience"

We used the platform for technical recruitments. One of the main reasons we chose Test Gorilla was to create tasks for technical roles. However, over time, we’ve realized that the tasks on the platform don’t quite meet our expectations and are unable to fully assess our candidate's technical skills. They are either too simple or too difficult, and some of our candidates also find technical tasks irrelevant for assessing their skills and are unwilling to complete them. Considering all of this, we have decided not to use the platform in our hiring process in 2025 and to return to our own assessment methods. Since we didn’t cancel the subscription, the annual package was renewed. After contacting them within 1-2 hours to say that we didn’t wish to use the product, we requested a refund for the subscription fee. However, our refund request was rejected. Despite repeatedly stating that we will not be using their platform, they are refusing to refund our payment. Customer representatives are not helpful at all and keep dismissing the issue by saying it's company policy. We had a very bad experience with this. It is truly disappointing that we have made a payment for a platform we are dissatisfied with and will not be using.

Better than expected, but the lack of a short term month to month subscription is a problem for us.

Pros

Easy to set up and use with some interesting assessments on the free plan.

Cons

You can't see the invitation or the rejection emails on the free plan. You can't view the test questions, so it's a leap into the unknown as a first time user. If you customise a screening question and need to edit it - you can't. You have to delete it and start again. You have to subscribe for a year. As a first time user from a small start up, we probably would have paid for a plan for a month or two - but can't justify the cost for an entire year for one hire. There is no reminder option to remind a candidate to take the test.

Pros

Very user friendly, super easy to find the correct assessments. Plus, they offer templates and automated responses.

Cons

I wanted to create an assessment with 5 different test, but this was not possible, as 4 is the maximum per assessment.

I don't like the series of assessment tools. Candidates are not allowed adequate preparation time like in other test batteries such as shl.

I did not like this product. No positives for me. I think the time allocations per assessment battery are also questionable.

There are no real practice tests. The verbal reasoning test passage is lengthy and so are the corresponding answers for selection.

### "Essential for remote teams"

We felt TestGorilla helped eliminate candidates we didn't need to persuade and helped identify the right candidates with the help of video responses. We were hoping for more non-cognitive skills assessments -- there were a few test suites that helped a bit, but we found that custom questions helped accomplish our goals better.

Pros

I loved that I could add cognitive and non-cognitive testing, and receive a summary of the test results rather than individual question results. This helps eliminate interviewer bias greatly.

Cons

I did not like the inability to modify my testing suite after the first interviewer. While I can see how this is interpreted as a feature, I would appreciate the ability to correct mistakes made in the original job posting or test suite composition.

### "Finding a needle in a Hay Stack"

Overall I like the concept of TestGorilla. I was able to create a test and easily choose questions to test potential candidates for the tole I was hiring for. I could also add custom questions and set time limits per question. While the summary of each test completed was neatly presented I would have liked if it had given and more in-depth analysis of the programming code provided and helped me in deciding if the candidate had the necessary skills rather than just a percentage score base on whether or not his/her code produced the expected result. Some candidates we interviewed based on there scores here were asked to do another practical code test and did quite well. When speaking to them in the interview they would say they were either intimidated by the online test or were confused by the mathematical questions and were not sure what to do. However, when asked to write a simple web page with a login etc they did this with no problem. TestGorila is great if you don't want to sit in lots of interviews with nonsuitable candidates and you can use this tool to choose those who might be suitable. TestGorilla alone though should not be used to decide whether or not to hire a candidate but does save a lot of time to you in the entire recruitment process

Pros

Library of questions to choose from which you can pick and choose to include in the test based on what skills you are recruiting for. The test can be done online at a convenient time for the candidate and there are checks built in to determine if the candidate was cheating. Various ways to share the test to potential candidates Nice summary of the candidates results

Cons

Needs more questions in the library for a wider variety of positions. Needs to assess the programming code automatically and provide a rating rather than just showing me the code and making e decide if the candidate is a good fit or not

Good set of questions. Though not used would like to develop set of questions for new subject areas.

Cons

1\. My biggest problem is to pay $150 every two months due to invalidating a assessment. As informed by your support: "The time limit on assessments is to protect the reliability and integrity of the tests, as having them available for extended periods of time increases the risk of candidates finding ways to practice the tests, or sharing the answers with each other, or posting the questions on the internet. These situations would not only force us to take those questions off our platform but also decrease the validity and reliability of the results of your candidates." This logic does not make sense since one can and will clone an assessment every two months to create a new one to continue the tests and pay $150 per clone. By cloning the assessment uses exactly the same questions. How does that take care of the reasoning above? 2. Even worse is every time you want correct a typo you have to pay $150 since the only way you can do by cloning a test rather than editing one. 3. The problem is the buyer has no idea about these additional cost when they are buying the service. The service fee is shown as $300 but actually it is $300 + 5 x $150 = $1050 which is more than 3 times the advertised price.

First of all, great support from the BD team at Testgorilla during pilot run and then helping us with right pricing plan. To talk about the tool, I think this is one of the best tool that I have used till now, as I was giving tests previously even the candidate experience is good on the platform.

Pros

Testgorilla assessments helped me close a position in just a weeks time. So if you have a proper sourcing channel test gorilla can help you reduce the decision making cycle.

Cons

the pricing model docent really favours small scale organisations especially in India, since the no of applications per job are very high so it limits us to use testgorilla tests as funnel for filtering out candidates. Qualifying questions are not good enough to filter out candidates.

It’s good, like it, looking forward to to stepping up a level

Easy to use & fairly intuitive, modern software

It’s not very pleasing to look at as a candidate- that could be redesigned. Would be great if it were more gamified, have more pictures and not be so word heavy across most of the different assessments. The test where candidates pick their top 10 personal attributes/ behaviours/ competencies/ strengths & it’s meandered against what the client has pre selected that they’re looking for could be more sophisticated… we’ve had client feedback that they want us to measure competencies like this test, but that this is too basic/ more prone to people guessing what they think the client will want from them & putting that in rather than the truth… that’s possible in any test, yes, but other tests are better at having measures against that.

I can’t remember which we tested now, there were a lot, but TG was the most modern- others were super out dated in their set up and delivery, and candidate experience

### "A bit pricey, but worth the cost"

Overall, the TestGorilla platform has the largest library of assessments I have seen. However, the free tier is pretty basic and probably not fit for many users with varying demands. The priced tiers are quite pricey to be honest, and most starting businesses would not be able to afford them.

Pros

I liked that we could customize the tests, and create individualized invites or a general link for each assessment. The tests seemed well-calibrated to the specific skillsets we were testing for, and we had the ability to select which assessments to use.

Cons

However, the free tier is quite limiting. You only have access to 10 assessments, which is not really much if you need to test for more than a few skillsets. On the free tier, you're also not able to download the results for offsite use. We had to depend on the candidates sending us the PDF of their results.

### "Bait and Switch"

It was my go to system, until I renewed, now I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. So brutal with customer care and they take take take... stay clear.

Pros

They changed their billing options to remove features that are critical at the price you are paying and then when the system renews and now you don't want to use the system because it doesn't do what you want it to do they magically can't reverse the charges. They are criminal. Their customer service team is brutal too. They only communicate via email and ad zero value. Don't be fooled.

Cons

They let you start with features you get used to using at a rate that is manageable. Then they change their plans so the features you want to use you have to pay 10 times more for the following year.

We communicated to all customers in June 2022 about the changes to the PAYG plan that would take effect on renewal. This gave our customers ample time to familiarise themselves with any changes that would impact on their assessments - your plan was renewed in January.
