It saves time, improves collaboration, and provides strong insights, but the cost and ATS limitations should be considered depending on your stack. Pros Gem is extremely easy to use. Setting up sequences is quick and practical, and the wide range of placeholders makes it easy to personalize outreach at scale. I really value the ability to add notes and tags to candidates, which makes team collaboration smooth and transparent. From a recruiter’s perspective, it feels almost like an ATS — the filters are very detailed, and you can scrape/search efficiently when looking for specific profiles. Another big plus is being able to reuse your own database and talent pools over time, which reduces reliance on external sourcing tools. From a team lead perspective, the reporting dashboards make it easy to track pipeline health and recruiter performance, which is very valuable for scaling teams. Cons It is on the expensive side, especially since you still need another tool for actual sourcing. Nowadays, many sourcing platforms also include emailing capabilities, which makes Gem feel like an additional investment. Pros I particularly like the collaboration possibilities in GEM. I'm heavily relying on shared projects with my teammates and finding a good workflow is easy with GEM. Cons I wish GEM (1) could improve the filtering options in projects because filtering isn't the smoothest experience I've had so far and the tool has the potential for more and (2) could give us more freedom in building our own dashboards. There are many widgets available (which is great) but it makes it hard to quickly build the dashboards we want - we have to play around with the tool before, in order to find the best variables. It's got a ton of features, great integrations, and they're backed by top tier VCs! Pros I like that Gem has a strong database of email addresses that they verify, their reporting and analytics is very useful for identifying bottlenecks in the recruiting & sourcing process, reviewing top of funnel metrics for the team, and measuring template effectiveness when reaching out to candidates. Cons I believe the user interface is a bit clunky and could honestly use a design make-over. Gem feels very intuitive and well-designed. The feature I love the most are sequences (and their analytics), which are the biggest time saver & continuous improvement tool when it comes to messaging candidates. Cons Although I love sequences, I wish there was a way to automate LinkedIn messages as well, which are currently semi-manual (still very intuitive with an easy copy/paste interface and reminders). The other thing I'm missing is more visual alerts on active candidates, so team mess-ups can be avoided for candidates who have recent activity or important notes in their activity tab, which sometimes doesn't show up in the sidebar overview. April 13, 2023 5.0 Gem has definitely made me a better recruiter and made my job easier. Pros Having reminders for InMails and getting emails sent automatically through gem is a GAME CHANGER. I am not the most organized person, so in the past I would have candidates fall through the cracks if I missed messaging them for 2nd, 3rd, 4th touch points. Now I get reminders or have it done automatically. Cons I cannot think of any cons of using Gem so far. I use it daily for candidate messaging and management, I have enjoyed it a ton. It keeps candidates organized, the AI is amazing, and its a great resource for reaching out to people that you could have never reached out to before. Pros I love that you can track who has opened your messages, clicked on your links, email got bounced, etc. It really helps to target people so that they can actually view your message. This is essential to recruiting since half the battle is getting your message to the candidate in the first place. Cons I think the filters could be more easily used. I am often trying to filter and not sure the EXACT words used to filter through my candidates. Having a go-to list would be great. Ex: unopened, read, etc. Reason for choosing Gem I've always used Gem so it was an easy choice. It's very easy to use, I've been able to teach my peers and hiring managers how to use and implement within 30 minutes and have them up and running! It integrates with Greenhouse very easily. The ability to nurture email campaigns to candidates is the best I've ever found. Cons Occasionally the data can be incorrect, but that is one of the only cons about gem. I wish we could see the likely hood of a candidate to respond would be helpful moving forward. I also wish it would allow for an easier scheduling method for inmails and the ability to mark those in your response rates. It would be ideal if there were more automated ways to highlight and autofill parts of a person's profile. February 3, 2023 5.0 My experience with GEM has been really good, once I was able to use the software for a while. It was a learning curve but the articles and questions to answers GEM provides are helpful. I do feel there could be even more clarification to questions. The answers seem limited. Pros I like that this software is user friendly, and it helps tremendously in outreaches to candidates. The data and analytics provided really give you a great look into trends and patterns which help the whole sourcing and recruiting process. Cons I do find in some areas, the process of sending outreaches could be more clear. Specifically sending emails, vs inmails, there are different steps after the process such as "TO DO's" that may be missed if you didn't know they were needed. Pros Achieving superb response rate thanks to the sequences and how easy they are to set up. Not only it allows personalisation at scale, but it also gives you the tools to send highly personalised messages. Their reporting and analytics tool has saved me lots of time and is well-rounded in terms of the info that you can download from candidates. Cons There are mainly 2 things that I would love for them to improve: Making sure that the email that gem is showing is actually the email of the candidate (would be nice to know how it was generated to double check). Gem's integrations make leveraging data from event so easy. In the past, where other platforms don't encourage collaboration, Gem does.Gem is perfect for large teams with wide candidate pool in order to retain and share talent, which is super important in this new and competitive landscape. Cons Limited licenses can make the data analytics a bit manual when it comes to reviewing large sheets of data. My assumption is that this is to push you to get a pro license. I would say GEM is a great partner to help achieve our Talent Acquisition goals. Our current ATS (Lever) does not offer some of the features this technology does. I'm so happy we decided to partner with GEM! Pros The technology offers a great dashboard experience for producing reports for our internal clients, they are easy to set up and share. We also use the technology to source, send sequenced messages, and manage a passive candidate pool. Great software, I would highly recommend it! Cons There are still some features that are in production or haven't made it to this state, but there are only a few of these situations. On one or two occasions, we've asked for enhancements our Account Manager/Tech Lead took our feedback and shared it with their Engineering team. To my surprise, our request made it into production and 2 weeks later the feature was created in the product. I'm super happy with the partnership and response from GEM. Review Source Blake J. Pros I love that it gives us the ability to track our recruiting efforts towards our Diversity goals. I also love how easy it is to automate sequences and email campaigns while also providing quantifiable data so we can continue to iterate on our strategies. Lastly, the reports are great to view recruiting pipeline health. Cons Whenever I think of something that could be improved on the team is quick to help me find the solution. Cons The only feature that is missing is adding information when a prospect accepts the invitation to connect on LinkedIn. It has to be added as an InMail instead of using the personal LinkedIn messaging service. Reason for choosing Gem Early on, I relied on spreadsheets. It saves me time and help me organize my responses. I love that you have an AI component to capture responses that have an indication of interest. It would be excellent if that could be applied to candidates who are not interested. Saves time on updated the responses. I like the Prospect fields. Having the ability to view multiple projects and adjust the filters to meet a current role is KING! Cons I just had one hiccup which was dealt with in an efficient and speedy fashion with customer support. Microsoft kept locking the account due to bulk messaging. Gem is very user-friendly and helps me track myself easily. I love the Outreach stats section, Pros search in the Prospects; email sequencing and automizing the outreach to candidates, being able to set up email sequence "on behalf of" hiring managers; the reports; finding the emails of candidates works pretty well; customer support is excellent and quick; love the brochures Cons It is not possible to download the candidate list or change the status of candidates who are in my team mates' sequence (in case of holidays this would be useful). I would make the Columns in Sequences adjustable, like in Projects, but it is not a dealbreaker.Just an idea: would be great if I could be able to rank candidates (prospects) on a given email sequence or project e.g. Tier 1, Tier 2 (based on how much they match the job requirements).
