Pros Email automation is where Sendgrid thrives the most and it is what I find the most likeable about this platform. By leveraging Sendgrid's automation capability, we are creating effective triggers , with which we are successfully following up with sales prospects and putting the right content in their faces through newsletters. Cons Sendgrid is one of the most technical email marketing platforms out there. Users need to have at least little programming experience , before they can make effective use of the huge potential and functionality selection made available on this platform. From the smallest Saas apps to the largest enterprises, Sendgrid was built with scale in mind. It handles transactional emails very well, and is relatively simple to integrate into your codebase or product workflow. Templates come out of the box, but some coding knowledge is needed to style transactional emails. All templates can be easily versioned. Concerns on security and blacklisting are limited. As long as you follow their recommendations, Sendgrid will deliver your email. Pricing is very fair and generous. In years of use, I've never gone over a plan limit. Cons Functionality can be limited in interesting ways depending on your plan. On the most basic paid plans, several code features are just missing. Reporting is the most glaring issue, with basic reporting showing only a rolling group of recently sent emails. Without a deeper dive into your logs, you may miss issues. Transactional emails also lack some features that seem required, like weblinks for email and easy native unsubscribe. There are workarounds for both, but not without challenges. October 4, 2022 2.0 Pros If you setup everything and subscribed to one of the most expensive plans you can send mails -\_- thats all! Cons The price is not the problem but what you get is a half finished product. In the first few months sending mails did not work at all. No error message. Nothing! We realized ofter customer complains. There is no double optin feature at all. The best way is to use custom fields and developer who writes additional scripts to handle the customer fields. The automation is terrible. You can only send emails after an fixed interval of 3 days. No option to change that. No option to send maisl after a click. Not even an option to delete emails in series of mails. You have to start a complete new automation. Adding just a delete button would saves hours! You can implement on your App easily with his Full Documented API or via SMTP. The free forever plan is perfect when you're starting a website or application and still do not have enough users. It's just the best smtp provider if you consider money and value Pros ok this is not a free software but you can get all you want: just smtp or stats and more.. what I really enjoyed was the stats service.. If you run an e-commerce you'll be familiar with the question: "did my customer got the email?" well with sendgrid you can actually answer that question. You'll have a full report and you can easily tell if your customer got the email or something went wrong. This is something just invaluable. Cons This is not a pricy software but you need to understand its value. if your business is not big enough maybe it will be hard to sustain. nevertheless i just can say this is the place to look even if you have a small business. unless you want to take the burden of handling smtp this software is just awesome. They make managing/segmenting your list easy to do. I love that they also offer automation, which is something we will be exploring more in the coming months. The A/B testing capabilities are also amazing. Cons So far, even after 2+years of using the platform, my only real complaint is I would like to be able to upload a fully embedded/clickable PDF into the platform and send. Right now that is not possible and it along with the elements, must be configured in the designer within the platform. Review Source VR Verified Reviewer Founder Computer Software Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Suspended Account for no reason" December 31, 2018 2.0 very poor support experience Pros it was quite easy to setup to use transactional emails and there was a free tier to start which is great for startups Cons the reputation of the shared IP is not really good and we still landed in spam. the biggest problem we had was that from one day to the other my account was supsended because "we were sending spam". No warning upfront, no chance to react upfront - just the information the we are suspended now. The problem: this e-mail came on a Thursday evening (out of office for me) and I reacted on Friday. The support did not answer anymore so we where off over the whole weekend cause their complience team is available only during weekdays business hours. The 24/7 chat support could not help me either. I needed to wait and we lost a lot of signups during those days off. Finally I got an example from them and could identify the problem. What I worry about is the fact that we did not get any warnings and no examples. If they would simply warned us upfront we would have solved everything right away and we would not have lost so many days without transactional emails. so - really a very poor support experience. Later on, our marketing team also started to use Sendgrid to blast emails and follow up on how our users interacted with the content we sent. We used to work on another software but we didn't use it's full package and we found it too expensive. So, we ended up switching to Sendgrid and it's doing a good job so far. Cons Not the easiest software to use to be honest. The visual of it is just too much information dispayed directly, can be very confusing at first. Moreover, customisation of Unsubscribe option is not available, for instance we wanted to add a Unsubscribe footer with images and GIFs as a standard for emails but that was not available. Pros I feel that the integrations are the best part, many other platforms are in the list, that's great.I also like all the customizable email templates, you can work right away with them and think about becoming more experienced only later. Finally, the reports are extremely detailed. Cons This is not for newbies, you need at least a bit of technical knowledge, so the first impact can be not too friendly. I think that the biggest flaw is the pricing, which it's quite high for me and I think that sendgrid is less cost effective than other platforms. Sendgrid provides that service well and at an affordable price point. It also offers traditional "email marketing" services, which we do not use and cannot evaluate. For our needs, it's a solid offering. Pros The media center I run submits three political op-eds per week to about 1,300 newspapers in the US (and sometimes another 1,200 internationally). Sendgrid delivers those emails in a timely manner and keeps track of bounces, etc. Cons Setting up to use the API from a custom email address is a bit cumbersome. Pros SendGrid is a simple tool which is a leader in cloud based email delivery platform. The performance is very good even when you are trying to send more than 100,000 emails a day. They also have provided a dashboard which gives useful insights such as the number of e-mails sent, delivered and opened. The integration with SendGrid is quite easy as there are APIs defined for it Cons The service is a little costly if you have to send a lot of emails. It only cheap if we have to send a small amount of emails.
