Pros

Termsoup is the most aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly CAT tool I have ever used. It is ideal for translating books, as well as both literary and technical documents. The tool is very easy to navigate, making it simple to manage translation memories and termbases, and to utilize machine translation options such as Google Translate and ChatGPT. It helps translators track their progress, stay focused, and complete their work efficiently. Whenever I translate long-form documents, Termsoup is always my go-to tool.

Cons

There is nothing I dislike about it. It is an excellent CAT tool for translators.

Pros

When I first heard of Termsoup I was a bit skeptical because I have used Google Translate for so many years so I was not sure if there was a better app and come to find out there certainly was. Termsoup makes translating so easy that even a person like myself who is technologically challenged can log on to the app and translate documents from different international companies rather than paying a translating service.

Cons

I don't think that there are any cons with Termsoup because it does what it advertises and that is to provide quality service in the translation world.

Oh and their customer service is excellent! Read their blog, the articles are constructive! Give it a try, you won't regret it.

Pros

Termsoup is by far the most user-friendly CAT I've come across. The UI elegantly designed, the functions essential, the payment plans accessible, and you can pick it up all by yourself in a minute, even if you deem yourself a computer illiterate or having CAT-tool intolerance, which was my case when I started using Termsoup in 2017. I am an literary translator (most of the time), and I can sympathize with many of my peers who think CAT-tool isn't that relevant to us as to so-called technical translators. But Termsoup has many features catered to translation of longer texts or books. The paragraph-mode related functions could be a great relief to many of literary translators, plus you still have all the benefits of CAT tools, like terminology and TM features, etc. I've translated about a dozen books and many technical projects with Termsoup, and I would be glad to continue with their service.

Cons

As Termsoup is completely cloud-based, your user experience might depend heavily on your internet connection. In order to gain the advantage provided by CAT tools, you also have to trade for certain level of flexibility in text editing, which I suspect is the main concern of some literary translators. Albeit with the trade-off, I think the overall design minimize the inconvenience which you might find more irksome in other CAT tools.

I have recommended Termsoup for other translators who are working on books and documents.

Pros

Termsoup is a computer-aided tool for translators, specifically, for non-localization translators. It's cloud-based; so I can work from any place as long as I can have internet access. The learning process is pain-free, compared with other CAT tools that I was taught in the graduate school of translating and interpreting. You just need to upload your file and start your translation. Building and collecting the terms that you have translated is very easy. I use this tool for book transition and document translation (in Docx format).

Cons

If you are a translator doing localization projects, Termsoup may not be your first choice. Another little point is that the word count is based on the target text, not the source text, which doesn't always apply to the customs that the clients in my market would adapt. In my country, only the book translation rate is counted in the target source. For other types of translation assignments, the rate is calculated in the source text. If you are in the same situation, that's the point you need to bear in mind. But overall, this doesn't really affect me a lot.

Switched from

[Trados Studio](https://www.capterra.com/p/151746/Trados-Studio/)

SDL Trados Studio license is very expensive for freelancers. And, the whole system is too complicated to master; it took me a long time to do it. And the word count tool sometimes doesn't work properly. To use SDL Trados Studio, every time I got the project, I have a lot "pre-translation documents" withthe client's request to read before I can start to work. That workflow is very time consuming and ineffective. It should in-cooperate that client requirement in the project management system like pop-up windows in each project. That would be more intuitive. The system should be more sensitive to the needs of translators. It not cloud-based, which I don't really appreciate.

If you know what a “CAT” is and have ever tried any of them (e.g. Trados Studio, MemoQ etc.), I bet you would love Termsoup. As a minimalist, the intuitive UI is quite attractive to me and much more friendly than other CATs. Besides, Termsoup extracts most useful functions and simplifies the work flow of translation. You only get what you need here. \[Customer service\] I doubt they are sophisticated AI robots. They’re always online (no need to sleep?) and solve my problems as soon as possible (smart and super considerate).

Pros

\[Spend Less\] The standard plan subscription is extremely economic, especially comparing to other CATs. In addition, you don’t have to upgrade your laptop nor software all the time. Termsoup is web-based, and you only need Google Chrome and Internet. \[Work Less\] Copy-paste is quite useful while looking up the dictionaries, but it’s tiresome to copy-paste for hundred times every day. Termsoup embeds Google, Wikipedia and many reliable dictionaries in the simplest layout. The most incredible thing is you can also use translation memory and machine translation in a single webpage without switching between websites. \[Worry Less\] I’ve worked as a freelance translator over ten years but hadn’t found a good way to organize my word bank and references, especially the same terms with different translations in similar fields (e.g. human medicine vs Veterinary medicine). It felt like the Universe heard my wishes. When I make my mind to solve this problem, I met my savior, Termsoup. The glossaries and tags are super useful and flexible. With tags, I don’t have to worry about how to classify the terms. As a translator, my mission is to facilitate the transmission of knowledge. The simplest way to achieve this is to share what I’ve accumulated with other translators. With Termsoup, I could share my glossaries with friends and know who feels those terms are helpful.

Cons

You have to transfer PDF to text manually and correct the format before input Termsoup. If you need to align documents (e.g. PDF with .doc or .doc with .doc), you may need other advanced software/services.

Anyone who uses Microsoft Word to do translation or thinks Trados is too expensive or too complicated should try this software!

Pros

The designer and the engineer value the user experience very much. They design the interface very intuitively, and all the functions and presentation are very easy to operate and clever. The two \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] are very lovely and they made my translation work smoother and more interesting. Love the "little gift"at the end of my work! <3

Cons

I was concerned that the two \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\] were working too hard..... The only thing I can do is let more people know Termsoup!!
