### "Excellent product"

May 9, 2022

5.0

Simply fantastic, a must have part of web development for me. This product simplifiies release procedure. so now we can release many times a day if we want. So for example releasing to our test environments are now fully automated. (This probably happens 10 times a day)

Pros

Octpus Deploy is a very simple concept that is elegantly executed. I really like the ability to configure releases, (they can be either simple or complex). Once configured, it's then a very simple process to move a release from one environment to another. Octopus Deploy does not dictate infrastructure, so it's up to you as to what environments etc you want. As the needs of our organization has changed so has the release process. Octopus Deploy is straight forward and simple to configure. The ease of use of creating releases. . I love the fact that Octopus Deploy removes any drama about releasing or "rollbacking" software. It just works.

Cons

Not a big fan of version immutability, but I understand it and have accepted it.

### "Highly recommended"

July 1, 2022

5.0

Since a few months there's now this feature called "config as code" where all deployment steps are commitet to a given git repository. It made it very easy to configure new projects for our microservice environment using this configuration as a template.

Pros

We startet with continuous deployment with octopus, it was really easy do deploy our IIS Applications on mutiple environments. The deployments can easily be triggered from our CI plattform (TeamCity) and/or manual with user confirmation. In combination with Jira, every changes with each package are displayed during deployment making it easy to track when did any change reach the server

Cons

Despite there are a lot of build in steps, unfortunately a "rollback" step does not exist (or we haven't found it yet) thus implementing a rollback strategy must be done manually via script or manual. This could be a helpful improvement, to enable an automatic rollback in case any error occurs during deployment

Reason for choosing Octopus Deploy

We did not consider any other product, as Octopus fulfills all our needs. We are a small team and our budget is not very much, so pricing was also an argument for staying with Octopus.

### "Octopus Deploy is an exceptional deployment orchestration solution"

December 5, 2021

5.0

Excellent! I really like this product and it makes my life easier as far as deployments go. I would highly recommend it!

Pros

I have found Octopus Deploy to be a very well thought out and intuitive deployment orchestration system. It is very easy to use and quite simple to get started. Originally it was focused on .net / Windows platforms but now can be used to deploy anything to Windows or Linux. We use it for both. It is a very stable, reliable and easy to use product and I highly recommend it.

Cons

For many years my organisation has been given a free community licence as a not-for-profit, but this is now changing and we will have to pay starting 2022. Even so, I think it is still worth the money by a long shot. The only issue we have at the moment is we need to upgrade to a newer SQL Server version to support the latest version of Octopus Deploy as there is some security vulnerability in older versions. Due to Microsoft licensing and infrastructure issues, this is dragging on and we are trapped on a certain version for now.

### "Octopus review"

March 13, 2023

5.0

Overall we enjoy using the OD product as it helps us complete our daily deployments in an efficient manner. Administration is rarely any issue and we don't have to spend a lot of time with any vendor support, we have personnel who manage the app and they don't routinely run into issues that can't be solved.

Pros

Consistency of use over 7 years has proven OD to be a valuable tool to the organization. We have an 'admin' who runs the tool but our expectation is it more or less runs itself and allows us to focus on other technology issues.

Cons

Moving from a 'per server' to 'per seat' license has caused some initial issues, for instance we didn't used to renew every year due to not requiring upgrades, but now it's forced so that is getting extra scrutiny from the purchasing department. I've never found the reporting function in OD to be overly useful as I'd prefer it to be.

Reason for choosing Octopus Deploy

We have used OD for many years now and one of the main reasons we choose to continue to use it is that it works best with the MS .Net architecture that we have in place.

### "The more I work with Octopus, the more I am astounded by it's capabilities "

March 17, 2023

5.0

We initially started using octopus for our CI/CD, but once we learned we could have a different space for just the sysadmins, our use of octopus exploded. My teams motto is, "we have a runbook for that". It takes automation to the next level.

Pros

While being extremely modular, and customizable, it is still easy to use.Integrates very well with our CI/CD

Cons

Understanding how environment, deployment targets, target roles can be difficult to understand without help, outside of the octopus documentation. When working with a space with lots of projects and environments, it can be difficult to find the right environment, project, and version number of the package i am looking for. Although I'm not sure that can be fixed, I'm not a UI guy.

### "Fantastic Enterprise CD Tool"

March 17, 2023

5.0

I am quite happy with the tool, its very cost effective, lite and community support is very good in terms of integration with AWS, Azure etc and other Devops toolkit.

Pros

I very much like the dashboard and space concept in octopus deploy, its so simple yet very relevant.

Cons

Sharing the resource like step template or feed etc. across space is something I feel would be very helpful from the platform team perspective.

### "Octopus is supercritical to our day to day operations."

May 27, 2022

5.0

Used it at my previous company and since moving to the new company I introduced them to Octopus as it's not something I cannot work without. Octopus just handles deployments to different Environments well as well as is able to handle tenanted deployments.

Pros

Being able to handle tenanted deployments.

Cons

For what I use Octopus there isn't something I like least.

### "1 year with Octopus Deploy"

January 27, 2022

5.0

Octopus Deploy was a very compelling product from the beginning. The fact that it was possible to use the free tier did that we took the jump and put the effort into setting up the deployment pipeline. The UI is superb, easy to understand and work with. Should that fail the docs don't.

Pros

Deployment is hard, less so with Octopus Deploy. Relatively strict model, but modular structure and highly extensible.

Cons

A bit buggy in the beginning, Tentacles would stop, but this seems to be over.

Reason for choosing Octopus Deploy

We had played around with it when it was free-free and seen the potential. Later we saw it in use at a large customer and realized that the Octopus had grown a lot. When the new free tier was reintroduce, we started there and never looked back.

### "No prior devops experience needed."

May 9, 2022

5.0

I manage around 600 projects for five business units in our corporation.

Pros

While I don't have anything else to compare it to and I didn't have any prior DevOps experience, I was able to quickly get up to speed and become fairly self-sufficient in little time. Granted there was a prior admin and he was available to answer questions so I wasn't completely in the dark. But the ease of use and the docs on Octopus.com have been paramount to keeping everything running smoothly.

Cons

I can't really pinpoint anything particular at this moment.

### "Thanks to create Octopus. You changed my life."

May 9, 2022

5.0

Thanks to Octopus, the deployments are easy. Before, we worked during several hours to do some complex deployments. Now it is only 15 minutes. If necessary, The rollbacks are easy. We gain in quality and security. A strong trust with business is now etablished. You can deploy more often and without risk. It helps us to be agile. Thanks Octopus.

Pros

Continous deployment and version control

Cons

It will be interesting to link Octopus and Service Now to have a complete feedback and tickets were updated automatically when a release have been deployed. I see it in your roadmap so impatient :-)

Reason for choosing Octopus Deploy

The price and the product quality.

### "Easy to use software"

May 9, 2022

4.0

Pros

Really easy to configure and use. The concept of project lifecycles and variable sets make it easy to build a great deployment pipeline.

Cons

The most difficult part was understanding of how to setup triggers for a automatic deployment to a stage when a new version becomes available.

### "Octopus Deploy becomes part of the family"

November 11, 2021

5.0

Simply the best tool in its field for (particularly Windows) deployments.

Pros

Octo Deploy have thought about everything involved in software deployment, and have either implemented it, are improving its implementation, or its on the roadmap. It is incredibly user-friendly, but also has serious depth if you need to work edge cases. The software itself is really well written and easy to operate and maintain.

Cons

I've never quite got the Users vs Teams setup...its not clear where you start - do you add a User to a Team first? Or add a User to the Org first? Or invite them?

### "My review title"

May 9, 2022

5.0

We saved a lot of time and enabled more persons to do a system update in production. Runbooks enabled the support team to do way more than they could do before and thus helped us developers do more development work.

Pros

In fact the UI was convincing very much. It was quick and easy to install and configure it to have a first demo working. It is very obvious that it is a well-designed and established product.

Cons

As with all the tools in that domain, it is hard to debug or simulate a deployment process. So sometimes it was a quite tedious task to fiddle around with variables and scripts until at the end everything's finally working as it should.

Reason for choosing Octopus Deploy

First impression with UI was so good, that we thought we could start small with all the built-in features fast and move forward to more complex sceanrios later. As it stands we are not disappointed at all with our decision.

### "Complex Deployments made simple"

March 14, 2023

5.0

Octopus is fantastic for complex deployment scenarios; when my clients ask me the best way to deploy the same solution in a multi-tier environment, Octopus deploy the first recommendation.

Pros

Octopus brings power to your DevOps Toolbox; Features such as lifecycles, variable configuration, release management, and the fact that the deployment system is built agnostic are why Octopus Deploy should be considered the go-to tool for complex deployments.

Cons

The Pipelines as code feature is pretty new and needs a little love to be great. As a professional, I do not like to use the UI to do my work, therefore the CLI, API and configuration as code needs to be 100% it will get there.

### "Flexible DevOps tool for all of our products"

December 2, 2021

5.0

We have been able to full automate out software packaging and deployment process for our product development team, allow for faster turnaround for the QA team and traceable deployments to our AWS environments.

Pros

We are able to use octopus deploy across all of our technology stacks from Kubernetes to Salesforce. It has helped bridge the automation from developers to QA.

Cons

For salesforce we needed to create out own scripts for deployment automation. Octopus is super flexible so any thing you can script in Powershell it can handle.

### "An excellent deployment tool"

March 14, 2023

5.0

Pros

Octopus Deploy is built for deployments, and it knows it. Octopus is very careful when adding features, and ensuring that everything is focused on a better deployment experience. The UI is easy to use, and provides guardrails to help people get started. The API, and custom templates allow admins to really customize processes to their liking.

Cons

While being focused on deployments only is one of the strengths of Octopus Deploy, when converting there was some extra work to separate existing CI and CD tasks. This created more up front work to get the pipelines running.

### "Great tool for deployment and run automated tasks"

May 27, 2022

5.0

Great experience overall. Awesome tool to design automated tasks, really versatile. It is really easy to design a workflow with different steps and bind them together. I'm right now in the process of implementing a deployment to a Kubernetes Cluster and everything goes smooth so far. One thing I love is the support mechanism that Octopus Deploy has. Every time I have doubts or I don't know how to do something, I just ask in the community and in less than a couple of hours I get a response.

Pros

The ease of use and how versatile it is.

Cons

I have nothing bad to say at the moment. I've been using it for just a month now so I'm just getting used to it.

Pros

### "One of our most important CI/CD tools"

March 31, 2022

Octopus deployed makes our release process easier. We've automated release creation from our CI pipeline, so release day we just need to press a single button

Pros

Ease of use, responsiveness, easy of configuration and smooth learning curve

Cons

Release management can become difficult if several release versions get created in quick succession. At times I've had to created a new release with the right version and artifacts myself, which isn't the best.
