They offer a wide range of services which at times can be overwhelming. Also there are plenty of youtube videos to help if you get stuck Cons There are more pros that cons, the only setback I've noticed worth mentioning is if you're not initially familiar with digitalcloud interfaces then it's best to follow their tutorial which is great! " April 21, 2026 1.0 DigitalOcean fully disabled our entire website due to a vague DMCA complaint targeting a single URL. The notice didn’t identify any specific infringing content, yet our whole droplet was taken offline — for the second time from the same reporter. This caused real financial loss and SEO damage. No timely response, no proportional action, no escalation. A system in which a nonspecific complaint can shut down a live business is deeply concerning. Pros I don't like anything about it! It has become very expensive. Customer service is terrible! I do not recommend it! Cons DigitalOcean support is unacceptable! If uptime matters, avoid. Production site 24+ hours, no real response, no escalation. Owner Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Extremely Disappointed – Poor Communication and Unfair Charges" June 23, 2025 1.0 I used a VPS from DigitalOcean for a few months. Recently, they sent a copyright-related notice to my email unfortunately, it went to my spam folder, so I missed it. Without any further warning or follow-up, they blocked the public IP address of my server. This caused a major outage for one of my clients, and I only found out when their system stopped working completely. I immediately contacted DigitalOcean support to resolve the issue, but after waiting more than 16 hours, I still didn’t receive a response. With no communication from their end, I had to pause all my work and migrate the entire platform to AWS at my own cost. I also had to compensate my client for the downtime. To make things worse, even though the server was inaccessible, DigitalOcean continued charging me for it daily. After 4 days with no response from support, I deleted the host entirely. Their handling of the situation was unprofessional, slow, and costly. I cannot recommend DigitalOcean after this experience. If your work is time-sensitive or client-critical, look elsewhere. Fast, reliable support and transparent communication are essential and sadly, DigitalOcean fell short on both. Pros Initially, the setup process was straightforward, and the server performance was decent for the price. The interface is clean and easy to use for basic server management. Cons Their support is extremely slow and unresponsive during critical issues. They blocked my server without proper notification (email went to spam), causing a major outage. Even after contacting support immediately, I received no response for days. Despite the service being unusable, I was still charged daily. This lack of communication and fairness was unacceptable. Alternatives considered [AWS Config](https://www.capterra.com/p/205398/AWS-Config/) Reason for choosing DigitalOcean I chose DigitalOcean because of its ease of use. But I was wrong. It's been hosting my admittedly fairly simple sites for a few years no with no issues. Pros It's pretty simple to get up and running with a WordPress site and then customize. There's no limit on domain names, sub-domains and the like via the aliases function. Haven't dug much into the development options, but they look pretty deep. Also, it feels like the service is updated pretty frequently, and in my experience has been solid. Cons In places there appears to be a bit of a learning curve, but there are good support pages to explain how to do things. Pros I originally went with DigitalOcean because it integrated well with SpinupWP. I have found that DigitalOcean is very stable, has a very easy to use interface and is a cost effective solution to moving off of shared hosting like Siteground, iPower, GoDaddy, etc. and having more resources and control. Probably not for everybody, but if you are hosting many projects and want speed and control it is a top choice. Cons I really have not found anything I dislike about DigitalOcean, in fact to this point I have still not had to contact their customer support. The problems I wanted to avoid were 1) unpredictable pricing, 2) vendor tie-in, 3) difficult to get performance without just paying more. With Digital Ocean, all of the above points were hit, and I feel totally control of my company's digital infrastructure. Pros With Digital Ocean, you get exactly what you pay for. Unlike other cloud providers, if you pay for a server with X capacity, you get exactly that, without any secret charges or "token" based performance. The pricing is predictable and the decisions are made simple. On top of this, the web-based user interface is well thought out and allows you to organise your servers into teams and projects. Each team can have separate billing but it is all predictable. Cons The web admin user interface is a little slow and clunky at times. It does the job, and is pleasant to look at, but seeing an animation of a shark swimming every time you click a button is common. I can't knock the functionality, but the way the web application has been built means that every action requires a loading animation, which can really get in the way of the task at hand. Digital Ocean offers very flexible plans and it is very easy to switch alternatives when needed. Invoices are clear and fair. I use Digital Ocean to mount one or more servers for my personal work, involving data analysis and education. It has saved me hours of installing software and allows working virtually from any location and any device. Pros Very easy to setup, all the options that I need are available, can start working in minutes. Cons I would like more low-cost alternatives. Currently my site is hosted on DigitalOcean and loads quickly. A faster loading site means more visitors and more visitors means more income generating possibilities. Spinning new servers from images save lot of time. Pros Things that I like about DigitalOcean are 1) You get power of cloud computing at some discount compared to Amazon and Google. 2) Nice and intuitive dashboard. 3) You can provision new servers in around 60 seconds. 4) Developer friendly. 5) Ability to collaborate with teams. 6) Predictable pricing. 7) Scale up as you grow. 8) Can enable IPv6 for the server. 9) Get to know various monitoring metrics like CPU and RAM consumption, disk usage, bandwidth consumption in the dashboard at a minimal interval of 5 minutes. You can see these usage for last 14 days. 10) Take backups and snapshots incase of anything goes wrong. 11) Easy to configure Firewall. 12) Can increase disk space easily by adding Block Storage to the droplets. 13) DigitalOceans Spaces can be used to offload static files for as low as $5 for 1TB CDN bandwidth and reduce load on server. 14) DigitalOcean has one of the best knowledge base and how to articles to get you started or get out if you are stuck. 15) Create alerts to receive email notification 16) Get email notification when monthly spending reaches your defined threshold. Cons Things that I don't like about DigitalOcean are 1) You have to turn off the droplet to scale up or scale down. 2) Information regarding DDoS attacks on droplets should also me made available in the control panel. 3) Backups and Snapshots costs extra and are pricy. 4) Does not accept prepaid cards for payments. Application workload is too heavy on some days. But digitlocean still could manage the workload smoothly. We also deployed few smaller size applications and smaller TPS db instances on smallest droplets. So the can have cost benefit here. I can definitely recommend DigitalOcena to anyone. I'm very happy with the different features and support DigitalOcean provides. My most used feature is DigitalOcean apps. This is a great and easy way to run your projects without the need to configure virtual servers. Cons One important limitation is that DigitalOcean uses CloudFlare so the request time is limited to 100 seconds and this can't be changed. You will get a timeout after this time. July 27, 2022 1.0 I have used Digital Ocean for more than 2 years and I regret it. I started over the recommendation of our freelancer, but in 2 years, I always had a hard time, from setting up, to managing, to backup, and performance, everything was very hard and confusing for me. And whenever I had a problem and opened a ticket, I only received automated responses and never heard from a real person answering my messages! In the end, one of my sites was hacked because of Digital Ocean and they didn't even bother to respond to me for anything at all! I finally pulled the plug and changed to another hosting provider which I am happy with! So, in short, if you are not a genius with IT, stay away from Digital Ocean. Or if you use, pray that you will not have any problems and will need technical support, because if you do, support will be nowhere to be found! Stay away at all costs! You will regret it! The user interface is simple, and the step-by-step instructions make it straightforward for beginners to understand. It offers a number of unique features, and users only pay for what they actually use. Amazon is pricey and has a complicated user interface. DigitalOcean is easy to use, controllable, and makes it straightforward to set up servers without incurring additional fees or other hassles. Pros It's incredibly simple to use the pre-configured VM templates for common software, which frees up your time for other important tasks. You can stop worrying about these things and needing to perform recovery tests on a regular basis thanks to automated VM backups and point-in-time recovery for databases. Cons I wish there was a more effective method for automatically provisioning individuals from specific nations. I didn't like that in order to prove my identity, I had to provide a photo of my face and my ID. The marketplace offers fast deployments of a variety of web apps and cloud software that speed up our development processes. Cons The only con I have experienced with Digital Ocean was a slow response from customer support when having trouble disabling the 2-factor authentication.
