They offer a wide range of services which at times can be overwhelming. Pros It's super easy to use and has great speed and performance for your drops. Also there are plenty of youtube videos to help if you get stuck Cons There are more pros that cons, the only setback I've noticed worth mentioning is if you're not initially familiar with digitalcloud interfaces then it's best to follow their tutorial which is great! " April 21, 2026 1.0 DigitalOcean fully disabled our entire website due to a vague DMCA complaint targeting a single URL. The notice didn’t identify any specific infringing content, yet our whole droplet was taken offline — for the second time from the same reporter. This caused real financial loss and SEO damage. No timely response, no proportional action, no escalation. A system in which a nonspecific complaint can shut down a live business is deeply concerning. Pros I don't like anything about it! It has become very expensive. Customer service is terrible! I do not recommend it! Cons DigitalOcean support is unacceptable! If uptime matters, avoid. Production site 24+ hours, no real response, no escalation. Owner Information Technology and Services Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Extremely Disappointed – Poor Communication and Unfair Charges" June 23, 2025 1.0 I used a VPS from DigitalOcean for a few months. Recently, they sent a copyright-related notice to my email unfortunately, it went to my spam folder, so I missed it. Without any further warning or follow-up, they blocked the public IP address of my server. This caused a major outage for one of my clients, and I only found out when their system stopped working completely. I immediately contacted DigitalOcean support to resolve the issue, but after waiting more than 16 hours, I still didn’t receive a response. With no communication from their end, I had to pause all my work and migrate the entire platform to AWS at my own cost. I also had to compensate my client for the downtime. To make things worse, even though the server was inaccessible, DigitalOcean continued charging me for it daily. After 4 days with no response from support, I deleted the host entirely. Their handling of the situation was unprofessional, slow, and costly. I cannot recommend DigitalOcean after this experience. If your work is time-sensitive or client-critical, look elsewhere. Fast, reliable support and transparent communication are essential and sadly, DigitalOcean fell short on both. Pros Initially, the setup process was straightforward, and the server performance was decent for the price. The interface is clean and easy to use for basic server management. Cons Their support is extremely slow and unresponsive during critical issues. They blocked my server without proper notification (email went to spam), causing a major outage. Even after contacting support immediately, I received no response for days. Despite the service being unusable, I was still charged daily. This lack of communication and fairness was unacceptable. Alternatives considered [AWS Config](https://www.capterra.com/p/205398/AWS-Config/) Reason for choosing DigitalOcean I chose DigitalOcean because of its ease of use. But I was wrong. It's been hosting my admittedly fairly simple sites for a few years no with no issues. Pros It's pretty simple to get up and running with a WordPress site and then customize. There's no limit on domain names, sub-domains and the like via the aliases function. Haven't dug much into the development options, but they look pretty deep. Also, it feels like the service is updated pretty frequently, and in my experience has been solid. They are providing me a perfect experience for more than 4 years. Pros The awesome user interface of the product is a killing feature, ages ahead of competition. I love how simple and efficient everything is, from deploying a new droplet to asking for support. They offer an excellent service at very low cost. They helped me starting my business, teaching me with their free tutorials how to build and manage servers. Cons I would love to see investments on a Brazilian datacenter. This is the only missing feature for me. Using digitalocean is like eating cookies... It's great using digitalocean. Pros The Load Balancer is a live saving. It's a great tool for distributing traffic's across servers. I love the server monitoring. It gives us good insight on what's happening on our server. VPS deployment is as fast as a lightening. Within a twinkling of an eye I can deploy multiple servers without delay. Cons The feature am expecting digital ocean to add next is using multiple IP on Cpanel. Like controlling two servers directly from 1 cpanel account. Application workload is too heavy on some days. But digitlocean still could manage the workload smoothly. We also deployed few smaller size applications and smaller TPS db instances on smallest droplets. So the can have cost benefit here. I can definitely recommend DigitalOcena to anyone. Digital Ocean is suitable for hosting standards for large websites and applications. I like it because it provides a great site performance score and also provides full controllability. Pros What I like about Digital Ocean is that:- I only pay for the resources that I use. While several other hosting providers will urge clients to go in for long-term hosting, Digital Ocean enables clients to only pay for what they use. This is pretty transparent if you ask me.- It's easy to use: While this may make sense to some people, Digital Ocean has one of the most simple and ease-to-use workspaces. Features are well allocated and they are not even supercharged. It makes it easy to locate an item without hassles.- It uses solid-state drives which are way faster than the usual storage most companies offer.- iT various droplets which are easy to configure and can also be deployed Cons The reasons why I stopped using Digital Ocean is that:- After three months of hosting, the system started refusing my prepaid visa card meanwhile I'd been using it in the previous months without stress when I reached out to the support team they took a longer time to respond and didn't solve the problem. They suggested that I should try paying via Paypal and there was an extra $10 that got added to the initial fees that I was to pay. At a point, it made no sense to me.- Secondly, all services are self-managed. Although it somehow gives full controllability what about beginners who have little knowledge of cloud computing or similar products? they won't make it.- Fast support comes at an extra cost. This is not a good model - It makes no sense to reduce subscription fees to later ask me to pay for support. It's not even common in today's business world. Please consider upgrading. Also, it offers 100$ credits for free to new users which I availed during my initial usage. Cons Free tier could offer some more storage for the container registry. It offers a number of unique features, and users only pay for what they actually use. Amazon is pricey and has a complicated user interface. DigitalOcean is easy to use, controllable, and makes it straightforward to set up servers without incurring additional fees or other hassles. Pros It's incredibly simple to use the pre-configured VM templates for common software, which frees up your time for other important tasks. You can stop worrying about these things and needing to perform recovery tests on a regular basis thanks to automated VM backups and point-in-time recovery for databases. Cons I wish there was a more effective method for automatically provisioning individuals from specific nations. I didn't like that in order to prove my identity, I had to provide a photo of my face and my ID. Pros It is one of the simplest ways to set up a VPS, and you can choose from a variety of operating systems such as Ubuntu. There are numerous droplets to choose from, each with a different price. The best part is the free trial period that they provide when you register, which allows you to try everything they offer for free. Cons What I dislike the most is that it has a bad reputation, so if you decide to use it as your email marketing server, you should be aware that it will be blacklisted the majority of the time. Furthermore, they make no effort to prevent spammers from using their services.
