It creates a high level of transparency for our class placement process to allow for our values to shine through. By removing hidden aspects of the process, our staff trust our placement process. Pros Class Solver is incredibly easy to use, it shows a great visuals that communicate the placement rules and characterstics in a easy to use manner. I also love that tactile aspect of it with the "name cards" Cons Currently, I would love to see SIS integration. Having the data automatcally update on nightly basis would improve the overall expeirence to reduce import/export issues. I can easily create lists, move students, record notes about individual students and keep information from year to year! Great tool that saves me many hours of time! Cons Setting up class parameters can be tricky if there are multiple types of classes. We had a variety of classes where some were special education, some were for students who were English Learners, and others with students on 504 plans. Oh, and the very fast turn around time from the helpdesk. Cons Nothing at this stage. Last year I requested several upgrades, all of these have occurred. Although the ability to embed student photos might be the next step (especially for the sociogram). I work MS/SS but the JS still love to have photos of students. It used the data we entered to make well-balanced cohorts in a matter of seconds. In the past, we spent hours studying various spreadsheets and moving names from cohort to cohort trying to create class lists that would set students and teachers up for success. The best thing about Class Solver was that it could tell us at any point which criteria were met and which weren't. That gave the administrators the confidence to be able to report back that all students were placed with at least one friend and to be able to answer to parents as to which requests were met or not met. It also enabled us to see when conflicting requests made it impossible to be able to meet all criteria, which saved us a lot of time spinning our wheels. The school administrators who were responsible for the class shuffling felt like they had been given their summer back. Pros Once we put in all of the criteria, Class Solver provided a solution in seconds. We were able to clearly see which criteria were met and which weren't and the boost feature let us tweak the results. Class Solver is extremely flexible and we loved the way it let us set up our own characteristics to use to form the classes. Cons As with any powerful software, there is a learning curve, but it really took us a very reasonable amount of time to be up and running.
