### "Not a perfect fit for a brick & mortar business"

Shopify POS was very easy to migrate to on the front-end and we were able to complete the migration on our own with our internal resources and without any vendor help. However, we quickly learned that inventory management was a challenge without a robust, 3rd party application to help us. Also, we had high hopes for more omnichannel business, but once we learned that our product did not sell well online we were stuck with a product that was not optimized for how our business actually operates.

Pros

Front end is easy to learn, easy to use by retail staff. Hardware is affordable and easy to acquire. Easy Omnichannel right out of the box.

Cons

If you are more of a brick & mortar business and do not do a lot of web/online business, it will feel like an imperfect fit for your business. Also, you will need a 3rd party solution for robust inventory management, especially if you are a multi-location business.

Front-end users really liked the Shopify POS interface and the cost to get started was minimal. Implementation was also simple enough to where we could do it without any external help.

Xstore was quite outdated and the cost and complexity to stay current with hardware and compliance was too high. Just getting tap-enabled EMV credit card readers was difficult. I did not want to be held captive by last-generation hardware limitations any longer.

For its price point, Shopify POS is easier to use and more customizable than other POS software/hardware combos like Square, but greater ease of access and business use is locked behind paywall tiers, and smooth flow of business can be disrupted by occasionally unreliable connections to external hardware like printers and card readers.

Straightforward usability for both employees and customers, easy integration with third party apps and hardware

Cons

Unreliability for some hardware connectivity, POS can be slow to update and integrate with online store and back-end inputs

### "Imperfect, but a must-have if using Shopify"

Shopify POS is improving all the time, but still has room to grow. If you are already relying on Shopify for e-commerce, Shopify POS is by far the best choice for in-person sales despite its limitations. It's tempting but ultimately inferior to use another POS platform and set up the necessary integrations between it and Shopify ecomm. If you are not relying on Shopify for e-commerce, investigate Shopify POS very carefully. Don't presume that it has certain features -- generate a complete list of every POS feature that you rely on, especially features that are specific to in-person sales, and verify that they are included natively.

Pros

The interface between Shopify's ecommerce platform and its POS platform is almost seamless. Some very helpful natively included tools connect the two. To name a few: - You can easily make an order in Shopify POS for shipping or fulfillment from another location. - Store credit is interchangeable between POS and online. - The mobile app is excellent. - Setting up a new location (such as a pop-up market) is intuitive. - Inventory, customers, orders, reporting, and discounts are seamlessly integrated between Shopify e-commerce and Shopify POS.

Cons

There are many features that you would assume are natively included in Shopify POS that are not present. Here are some striking examples: - You can not look up past orders by customer phone number. - You can not generate a list of past customer orders by line item. - Fractional product quantities are not supported. You can't sell 1.522 kg of apples. You would have to sell 1522 grams of apples, and price per gram. - Shopify POS is not supported on desktop computers. - Offline functionality is severely limited. - Printed receipts are capped at 50 line items.

Overall it's a great platform. It's very user friendly and our staff have an easy time using it.

Pros

It's extremely user friendly and doesn't take a lot of time to train someone. Great layout.

Cons

Shopify will continuously make updates and not inform their customers about the changes. It isn't until we need to use a feature and it isn't there anymore, that we realize the changes.

Easy to use and train employees. Inventory management is a breeze and integrates with every tool we used. Payment processing is a breeze and tracking customer profiles, well worth the money.

Cons

Initial set up is a little tedious, but once everything is up and running and synchronized it is a dream.

Easy to build and use my site, responsive customer service. A mostly positive experience as far as tracking my sales and such.

Pros

The learning curve with Shopify is fairly easy. They have tutorials, and a lot of the stuff necessary is intuitive. I never had issues with the security features, or with bugs or glitches. You do need a few plugins for a fully functional store, but most of them have free options.

Cons

The marketing opportunities on Shopify aren't as easy to find as I'd hoped, and so my ROI wasn't as high as it could have been.

Pros

Its interface is easy to use and does not feel overwhelming to learn or use. It allows for mistakes and to correct what was put in

Cons

The way certain tools would not work correctly so we would need to be on the phone to correct it. But it might've been our system and not the tool we were using

It's pretty pricey, But with that said, It's super easy to use, It has a wide range of awesome features. So really it's great for both a brick and mortar retailer or an online business.

Pros

It easily syncs to our online Shopify website, It's also available offline for cash sales too which is a plus. It was simple to to teach to our staff they all caught on rather quickly. Also because it integrates with a lot of other apps including our Google merchant center so our awesome store shows up on Google as well!

Cons

It is more expensive than my boss really wants. Because we are a smaller hotel. The 3 day free trial was just not enough. So we paid for the basic plan for 6 months so that we could really be able to check out all the features. The advance features are quite expensive.

Overall great and an effective selling tool that staff and customers like. It helps you keep track of inventory for loss and ordering very easily.

Pros

Very straight-forward, easy for customers to make transactions online and in-store, great for inventory tracking, and easy process for refunds or exchanges and well as automatically applying and processing sales and discounts.

Cons

The cost is reasonable but not stellar depending on the size of your business. There are some bugs amd issues depending on how familiar you are with setting up your products and sales.

It was so easy to set up and, as someone who sells a very small amount of items digitally online, it suits my needs perfectly. I haven't found any features missing that I need, even with the free version.

Pros

The free version is enough for all of my needs which makes this a great option as I have a very small business selling digital art. It's easy to use and I like being able to use it across my different devices.

Cons

I am generally very happy with my experience and can't think of any cons. If I had a larger business, I would perhaps find the fee structure frustrating.

Overall, Shopify POS has made managing both my online and in-store sales much easier. It keeps everything in one place, reduces inventory mistakes, and helps streamline operations.

Pros

It was seamlessly easy for Shopify POS to connect with my online Shopify store. Inventory stays synced automatically, and the interface is very clean and intuitive. Checkout is fast, and it lets my customers do contactless pay.

Cons

Some features require payment like detailed reporting and staff permissions. Offline mode is a bit limited, it works, but not as smoothly as when online.

It’s been fantastic! I downloaded the app on my phone and I can go to flea markets and do my services on the go because I can receive payments in my phone.

Pros

I can collect payments easily from my phone.

Cons

When my signal is not the best, I have to close the app and open it a couple of times until the connectivity of the card reader works.

My experience with Shopify has been delightful 🙂 The step by step road to success is So easy a caveman can do it.

Pros

The best part about joining Shopify for me is that I had no idea what to expect or what I was doing, but joining Shopify and opening my shop was click click launch. Yup it was that easy peezy lemon squeezey.

Cons

I honestly don't have any cons as of right now. I've been part of the Shopify family for almost a month now and it's been nothing but fantastic.

SHOPIFY POS IS AWFUL --- The receipt printer and barcode scanners disconnect daily and Shopify support is completely useless to fix this despite thousands of merchants discussing it in their forums.

It was great, shopify takes care of most of the things automaticLly its best to however double check and keep it simple.

Pros

Shopify POS has a wide range of features, their payment processing is smooth and easy along with their inventory management syster which keeps tracks of instore and that in the warehouse

Cons

Sometimes, if the products are returned its hard to manage inventory for the pos as mostly what would happen is that people use to return items and we had to manually update the pos for the number of items left

Overall, we are able to find work arounds for most issues and eventually we get things working. The convenience of the Shopify POS App is sometimes overshadowed by a need for 3rd party apps, and lots of time fiddling around. A major plus is that most issues that I encounter are issues for everyone else too, so I can usually find my answers in an archive somewhere. The bad news is that some issues have been around for years and are still not resolved. For instance, the month-end inventory snapshot sometimes takes up to 2 weeks into the new month to show the month prior.

Pros

I love the ability to integrate our online store with our brick & mortar location. Before Shopify, we had to put in every order twice to capture the online sale. Now it's simple to manage our products both online and in store.

Cons

It doesn't have the ability to do Weighted Average Cost (or any other costing method that isn't FIFO). Additionally, Shopify POS doesn't have any report to track adjustments made to inventory-- you must go into each individual item to view adjustment history per item. There's no way to track bulk adjustments made in the inventory screen. We use 3+ apps just to make Shopify POS work as a normal POS should.

It came down to price at the end of the day. Also, I believe that the CFO was under the impression that Shopify could work with Weighted Average Cost -- we might have gone with something else if she'd known that it does not!

Quickbooks POS informed us all that they would no longer be supporting their POS system and that sent everyone into a scramble. Shopify was presented as a partnered alternative with many incentives to make the switch to them. We're a non-profit operation with a small brick & mortar store and an even smaller online store so it seemed like a good fit for us!

Pros

After using similar softwares, it was so pleasant to find out that Shopify has mimicked the same software, integrated directly with their primary application. Has everything you are looking for out of a POS, within Shopify itself.

Cons

Difficult to integrate into your current Shopify. It felt like there weren't enough resources to garner the knowledge necessary to integrate.

Overall we love Shopify POS, but we feel we are being held at ransom to pay higher prices for their hardware. If you want the seamless integration, you will pay their over the top prices for POS hardware.

Pros

The ease of use of Shopify is my favorite thing about Shopify POS. Integration to our online store is seamless and makes inventory management a breeze. There are a lot of features we use as well such as discount application, and accepting multiple forms of payment that we find especially useful.

Cons

The price of Shopify and hardware cost leave something to be desired. They are much higher priced compared to other POS companies.

Pros

I used shopify to sell merchandise for a venue. I like how easy it is to upload images and customize post options.

Cons

I don’t have any negatives. The longest portion of the process was the set up, but that was due to the extensive list of products I had to upload
