It was a no brainer decision for us since we were very happy with shopify and knew this wouldnt take much to setup. It has been great to use and integrates seamlessly with our online ordering system Pros Shopify POS is a nicely packaged POS option that works great if you already have a shopify store. It uses the shopify catalog for your ecommerce site which basically mean zero setup. Buy a tablet and card reader and you're running! Cons Some more customization would be nice on the receipt. If you are already relying on Shopify for e-commerce, Shopify POS is by far the best choice for in-person sales despite its limitations. It's tempting but ultimately inferior to use another POS platform and set up the necessary integrations between it and Shopify ecomm. If you are not relying on Shopify for e-commerce, investigate Shopify POS very carefully. Don't presume that it has certain features -- generate a complete list of every POS feature that you rely on, especially features that are specific to in-person sales, and verify that they are included natively. Pros The interface between Shopify's ecommerce platform and its POS platform is almost seamless. Some very helpful natively included tools connect the two. To name a few: - You can easily make an order in Shopify POS for shipping or fulfillment from another location. - Store credit is interchangeable between POS and online. - The mobile app is excellent. - Setting up a new location (such as a pop-up market) is intuitive. - Inventory, customers, orders, reporting, and discounts are seamlessly integrated between Shopify e-commerce and Shopify POS. Cons There are many features that you would assume are natively included in Shopify POS that are not present. Here are some striking examples: - You can not look up past orders by customer phone number. - You can not generate a list of past customer orders by line item. - Fractional product quantities are not supported. You can't sell 1.522 kg of apples. You would have to sell 1522 grams of apples, and price per gram. - Shopify POS is not supported on desktop computers. - Offline functionality is severely limited. - Printed receipts are capped at 50 line items. It handles most of the technical parts so the focus can stay on the storefront and the visual experience. Pros Setting up products and collections is simple, and the themes available make it easier to create a store that looks professional. I also like how many integrations are available. Cons Shopify will continuously make updates and not inform their customers about the changes. It isn't until we need to use a feature and it isn't there anymore, that we realize the changes. It allows for mistakes and to correct what was put in Cons The way certain tools would not work correctly so we would need to be on the phone to correct it. Website and physical terminal setup was easy and well supported. I would recommend buying physical equipment from their store as its fully supported. Pros It works seamlessly managing our stock, instore and online sales in our shoe shops. 7 years on the product and service continue to improve and offer astonishing value in comparison with the competitors. Pros The free version is enough for all of my needs which makes this a great option as I have a very small business selling digital art. It's easy to use and I like being able to use it across my different devices. Cons I am generally very happy with my experience and can't think of any cons. I downloaded the app on my phone and I can go to flea markets and do my services on the go because I can receive payments in my phone. Pros I can collect payments easily from my phone. Cons When my signal is not the best, I have to close the app and open it a couple of times until the connectivity of the card reader works. If you want the seamless integration, you will pay their over the top prices for POS hardware. Pros The ease of use of Shopify is my favorite thing about Shopify POS. Integration to our online store is seamless and makes inventory management a breeze. There are a lot of features we use as well such as discount application, and accepting multiple forms of payment that we find especially useful. Cons The price of Shopify and hardware cost leave something to be desired. They are much higher priced compared to other POS companies.
