### "A valid alternative for IaC"

August 24, 2021

3.0

So far it has served us well, but we are moving to CDK in the near future

Pros

\- Templates are written in a YAML subset, which is arguably preferable to JSON - It provides many options to properly manage the stacks lifecycle - When coupling with Cloud Development Kit, it makes up for a powerful IaC solution for AWS - As with any other AWS service, you can manage CloudFormation in the best way that fancy your team needs

Cons

\- It's hard to understand that some resources that are possible to tag, don't support tagging in the templates - Templates can get complex over time

Reason for choosing AWS CloudFormation

### "AWS CloudFormation for automated infrastructure provisioning "

August 17, 2022

5.0

Great !

Pros

AWS CloudFormation was the first tool for Automated Cloud Provisioning I have ever used. Suprisingly it was very easy to configure and maintain the infratructure with it. We have provisioned several services using CloudFormation including EC2, S3, ECS, IAM, Lambda, RDS and DynamoDb

Cons

The fact that it is strictly tied to AWS infrastructure and in the era of maintaining systems that are often relying on different Cloud Providers, it might become unusable in specific cases.

### "AWS CloudFormation: Same place to use multiple AWS services"

August 2, 2021

4.0

I am very happy with the features and the ease to create resources on the AWS cloud.

Pros

We use this service to create multiple resources on the AWS cloud infrastructure. Like EC2, VPC, Route53, etc we create these services through CloudFormation.

Cons

Sometimes it takes more time to find the CloudFormation templates to create the resources on the AWS cloud.

Reason for choosing AWS CloudFormation

AWS CloudFormation is more powerful to create the resources on the AWS Cloud and we are using only AWS Cloud provider.

My overall experience with AWS Cloudformation is quite amazing. It helps us in a lot of ways to complete our tasks done. Also managing, creating, updating, and deleting resources becomes easy with cloudformation.

Pros

The thing I like most about this software is that it has a ton of features. Also, it supports various IAAS like terraform, etc., and other serverless frameworks too. It is very easy to use and you can easily find good documentation about this. Also, the design tool of cloud formation is very good.

Cons

There are no cons to this software. It servers its purpose.

Pros

Having the option to make another application utilizing either yaml or json inside cloudformation, you can even prearrange this out or utilize the architect apparatus that aws has included

Cons

The designer tool device is muddled to utilize however gets simpler to use subsequent to investing more energy in it and with thinking of a portion of the code to go with the creator you can make an application

### "Seamless Experience with AWS CloudFormation"

June 5, 2023

5.0

Pros

AWS CloudFormation provides unmatched compatibility with diverse services, allowing me to effortlessly deploy comprehensive environments in minutes. Its integration with Amazon's CDK expands the possibilities by enabling infrastructure-as-code in multiple languages. Automating resource provisioning, CloudFormation streamlines the build process with preconfigured templates. Robust technical support and abundant documentation further enhance the experience, fostering growth in both CloudFormation and AWS skills.

Cons

AWS CloudFormation, while powerful, has some areas for improvement. Occasionally, updates and creations can be slow, and manual intervention is required for failed deletions. The documentation can be challenging for beginners, necessitating guidance from experienced colleagues. Its reliance on AWS infrastructure may limit usability in multi-cloud environments. Enhanced error handling would alleviate time spent debugging CFT templates.

### "Seamless way to spin up cloud resouces"

August 5, 2021

5.0

Overall, cloudformation has made the deployment a cakewalk. Much recommended to everyone who wants to use it.

Pros

It makes deploying EC2 instances so easy. With a few clicks and customization, you have a full fledged stack ready

Cons

Editing the Cloudformation template can be challenging. The format available is only JSON/YAML which limits the customization.

### "Quickly replicate your infrastructure or environment"

December 31, 2021

5.0

We turned mandatory to add every micro service deployed to the CloudFormation template.

Pros

AWS gave us a way to start multiple services from a JSON or YAML file, CloudFormation. It is also possible to maintain, debug and assign environment variables that can be migrated easily to any other region.

Cons

There is no counterpart. It is as simple as it sounds, you can design a template that can start multiple Amazon services, no catch.

### "Very useful for replicating infrastructure for different environments "

September 1, 2020

4.0

Overall I really enjoyed this tool. It helped me to understand AWS services better and learn infrastructure-as-a-code which was very satisfactory for me.

Pros

With some level of AWS experience, I was able to start using cloud formation. As I got experience with other AWS services I could easily map it to my Cloud Formation stack. So basically my cloud formation skills grow at the same time as my AWS skills grows.

Cons

I was hoping this tool also support a basic editor view which allows me to design my AWS architecture without providing all the details. More like draw.io functionality. I'd like to keep all my AWS design artifacts in AWS other than back and forth between draw.io and AWS cloud formation

### "Great Product"

February 17, 2022

5.0

Pros

CloudFormation makes managing AWS resources a breeze. Consistent deployments across all regions has been an absolute game changer. The interface is very user friendly

Cons

Deleting resources can sometimes be a pain. It would be good to have a "force delete" option that will blitz resources regardless of the deletion policy.

### "AWS CloudFormation - Infrastructure as a code"

February 6, 2022

4.0

We can easily estimate the costs of our resources using the cloud formation template. In order to save the cost, we can automate the same by deleting our resources in Dev environment when developers are not using the resources during out of office hours. Overall changes to our infrastructure can be done through the code using Cloudformation.

Pros

User have the ability to destroy and re-create an infrastructure on the cloud on the fly. No need to create the resources manually. Everything will be deployed using cloudformation template (Yaml file). All the templates can be uploaded in S3. CloudFormation template helps us to create the resources in the right order with the exact configuration that we specify in the template.

Cons

As of now, there are no cons i have identified for this product.

### "Infrastructure as code"

May 15, 2021

4.0

Pros

Cloudformation makes it possible to deploy stacks that create and update services by simply updating a template. I usually use it with the AWS CDK because I’m a JavaScript developer. It makes it very easy to spin up new environments very easy.

Cons

It can be slow to update and create. Sometimes it fails to delete and you have to delete the stack manually.

### "Not enough compelling reasons to use over Terraform"

April 12, 2022

3.0

CloudFormation may be ideal for you if you're a 100% AWS shop and have no intention whatsoever of looking at outside products. However, consider the vibrant community that Terraform has. It's a real alternative, and AWS has even picked up development of the Terraform provider for AWS.

Pros

CloudFormation, like many other services, is designed for AWS from the ground up. It's supported by the developers, and it shows in how you're able to roll back changes, etc, which can't be done with Terraform.

Cons

The syntax is significantly more confusing (to me) than Terraform. HashiCorp's HCL makes it a lot easier to write and visualize what I'm trying to create. CloudFormation only works on AWS; if you'll be working on anything else, you'll have to learn a different tool.

### "Ideal starting point for serverless development"

April 29, 2022

3.0

Pros

Easy to implement, needs to know either of the 2 languages- Yml, json. Extensive documentation and customer support. Always enhancing features.

Cons

No 'ideal' programming language which leads to learning either yaml/JSON. Debugging issues in CloudFormation templates is time consuming.

### "Perfect for any cloud stack"

July 22, 2021

5.0

Pros

It's super easy to create a cloud stack on any application. Cloud formation allows you to easily create a cloud stack, but also let's you manage security and roles easily.

Cons

When it comes to creating a cloud stack through the yaml file, thats when it gets super complicated. I really wish that they found a way to be more user friendly. It takes time to learn it before you finally get it right. Keep it in mind.
