March 4, 2022 4.0 I thought maybe some good info about the area would come out of the news feed, but I quickly found out this part of Nextdoor, at least in our area, is worthless! I have had some success with selling items locally on Nextdoor and very happy to see that people really do seem to help find lost animals! Pros We have Nextdoor for our neighborhood. I've had quite a bit of success selling items locally through this platform. I've also seen it be very successful in helping lost/found pets be returned to their rightful owners. And in many instances I've seen referrals for quality handyman-type businesses. Cons I'm always amazed by the comments/complaints/questions that people ask in the feeds! Seriously? "I just saw an ambulance drive down (street name), does anyone know where it's going?" "My neighbor had a noisy party last night... do you think I should report them?" Pros What I really enjoy about Nextdoor is that everything that is posted there can have the potential of having an impact in your life. This is because the people who are posting there are your neighbors! It is social media from your neighborhood! For example, if you loose your dog you can post it there really quickly and your neighbors can start to keep an eye out for your dog. I have seen this happen and the dog is always found. Also, you will only see posts from your direct neighbors, so you don't get bombarded with posts from neighborhoods that you don't live in. I really enjoy it. Cons I don't like when a lot of businesses do posts, and when you pay to post, it can be any business that might not be in the neighborhood. If it was local businesses posting or a side hustle of a neighbor that would be pretty cool. Don't let big companies take over Nextdoor. July 19, 2022 4.0 I wish they only showed posts from my small town but I have to wade through advertising and posts outside of my local area. Pros I thought this app would be most likely a space for advertising my small business, seeing what was happening in my neighborhood, etc. Cons Some of the users are complainers and they only post to start drama. District Manager Retail Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Review of Nextdoor" July 23, 2021 4.0 Being able to alert my stores when there is crime nearby has been very useful. The Managers like it when I notify them so they can be prepared. Pros What I like most about Nextdoor is that I can see what is going on around our neighborhood and areas. I use this to see if there was any recent crime committed around the stores that I oversee. If I see that there has been any crimes committed, I warn the store's manager that is close by to stay on alert. Luckily, nothing bad has happened to the stores near the crimes. I also like that I can see when there is a lost pet or yard sales going on around my neighborhood. I've gone to a couple events that have been announced on Nextdoor. Cons What I like the least about Nextdoor is sometimes the articles load in a weird way and I can't see a majority of the post. All I do is hit refresh on my app or browser and it fixes the issue. It's a good idea, but VERY poorly executed. Cons Moderators are community members meaning the majority are likely controlling posts and deciding which posts and comments to remove. Guidelines are subjective and their immediate response is to ban members for a month for each violation. Not turning off comments, deleting posts, or even letting members know why. It's really just a biased social media site at this point. No change has been made to address or change the situation. Review Source JA Jason A. This is also a great way to engage with the community and advertise community events. Pros This is a fast and easy way to pass on useful information, crime trends, and important safety messages to those within your community. Cons Nextdoor is a haven for complaints/bickering. Mostly I really like the tried-and-true service recommendations. The app is intuitive and has a lot of different ways to communicate/participate and feel like you’re part of a community. The text alerts and email updates are my favorite features to always stay in the know. Cons A LOT of people enjoy complaining in the newsfeed section. Now I can't get through the verification process to log back on. I need to disable my acct. Pros Not much. Once in a while someone will post a video before it shows on the news. Rarely though. Great for finding a local boy to hire for yard work, or learn about garage sales. Apart from these things, I'll stick with Facebook or Instagram as most of my interests are not bound to my neighborhood. Regarding businesses, I think it's a very good app to get awareness out if your audience is bound. Pros Nextdoor brings social networking to the neighborhood. I love how this software not only allows me to connect with my neighbors, but is a great advertising tool. Especially for small businesses in the area, it's a great way to get the word out to people in the area. This tool makes it easy to connect to a specific target audience geographically. Cons Of all the social networking tools, I find Nextdoor to be the most complicated. It does seem like it's trying to keep up with the other social networking tools and offer lots of options for people, groups, advertising, individual sales, notifications, etc. While trying to make the most of everything, it can feel like a very complicated app. Review Source DC David C. This app is worth less than when I initially tried it a year ago. It added nothing then, but has become a pest since then. Cons Cannot not turn off the email notifications. I get dozens per day, have ‘inscribed’ each time for 2 weeks, and yet they pour in. Love the ability to ask for recommendations for quality companies for repair/household jobs. A great starting point to connect, that hopefully leads to lots more of saying hi to neighbours and a more community feel wherever you are. Cons It can feel a little spammy sometimes - I'm not always sure what the guidelines are, and some posts look like paid or sponsored posts, which makes it feel less community, and more like a flyer. I also have not seen any traction on the zip codes we're currently paying for so it's hard to say if it's worth continuing it. Pros Overall the product has a lot of potential for local marketing and networking. I can see that it could be useful for potential name recognition and to get your business noticed for people who may have just moved to the area and are using this app to get referrals for local services and businesses. Cons The site isn't the most user friendly if you're not familiar with the system. I am pretty new to using the site so I have found it a little tricky to navigate and figure out how to create advertisements or posts for our business to try and get our name out there more. I also don't love how you have to wait for certain zip codes to be available to market in those areas. Given that we are in the smallest state in the country it is very important to get our name out there in all of the zip codes surrounding our offices so we're a little limited on doing so when a zip codes isn't available. I'm not a big social media person, nor am I terrible interested in interacting with my neighbors in this way, but I can see the value for some. I prefer face-to-face communication. The best thing is when people reach out for local help. That seems to be a huge benefit. It is helpful for finding local contractors, business contacts, etc. Great option if you're looking to be more informed about your local neighborhood. Pros Nextdoor is great for staying updated on the happenings of user's neighborhood. Since it is not a social media outlet that people use to share personal photos or stories (unless helpful for the general public), it is more informative than opinion-based. Very user-friendly. Another pro is the option for Nextdoor to mail invitations to your neighbors so that more people use Nextdoor. Cons Depending on where user lives, Nextdoor may or may not be used much. If it's not used by many people in user's area, Nextdoor won't be very helpful to them. Review Source HT Helena T. Lots of people are called \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] on Facebook and no one gets their account disabled on Facebook. Telling someone who doesn't provide proof I'm wrong to provide proof isn't wrong either.  Oh, and last and not least calling out \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] mental health (or being anti \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] ) isn't wrong considering that there's people that call out \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] mental health and anti \[SENSITIVE CONTENT\] on Nextdoor all the time.  Pros Nothing. Since others are reporting exactly the same issues, I'll likely just delete my profile and move on. Small business owners don't have time to mess around with software that doesn't function properly. Pros I can't get it to operate well enough to know what might be good about it. I set this up upon the encouragement of others in my local area. Cons I set this up a week ago and although I cannot get it to work even after visiting their Facebook page for advice, only to find that many others are having the same challenges, this still isn't functional. I can't see any activity in my community, the app fails and locks up. Meanwhile the emails keep pouring in encouraging me to pay for advertising on this site. We have found the best deals on trash service, cable and internet through this app. It really is helpful to me. Pros I enjoy the "welcome" function. When someone new joins the neighborhood (and introduces themselves) it is simple to "welcome" them instead of writing out a comment. I feel like that makes people feel welcome without overwhelming them. Cons It is very difficult to find a post by searching keywords. And I would prefer to be able to block certain neighborhoods from my news feed, but I cannot do that. The emails that I get are not consistent or up-to-date. I have seen warnings about burglary and suspicious persons on it and was very appreciative to have had the heads up. Cons I think there could be some more categories for people to connect. Pros I like that it connects everybody around you. With the heat its not so easy to go outside for some people. Cons The way they have an ad after every post on the time line.
