It is very user-friendly and has a variety of options for customizing the comparison process. Overall, I highly recommend WinMerge for anyone needing to compare files on a regular basis.In my case, I make edits to configuration text files in high availability environments, running on Linux, it has ever saved my life to fix problems comparing files and configurations between test and production environments. Pros It is easy to use and has a variety of options for customization. I liked the fact that WinMerge was able to easily compare files and folders, and it had a lot of options for doing so. I also liked the fact that it was free and open source.The best function about WinMerge as SysAdmin is that it can help you quickly identify and resolve file conflicts. With WinMerge, you can see both sides of a file conflict and decide which version to keep. Can also help you merge changes from multiple files, which can save you time and effort when resolving conflicts. Cons There is not much to dislike about WinMerge like SysAdmin. It is a very powerful and useful tool. The only thing I could say that I don't like is its aesthetics, they could renew it and make it more current with modern OS. Pros 1\. Best feature is their folder compare becuase otherwise it would be very hectic to compare each file one by by one. 2. There are many other small features like: File thumbnail, color coding, side by side scrolling of the file etc Cons 1\. Code compairing can be improved by adding options like "ignore whitespace change". There is no such option which was very surprising and annoying too because I like this tool. 2. It must be integrated with git also. 3. Word document compare would be a big plus, currently it can't compare word documents. Pros WinMerge is a very handy tool that comes free for users of Windows operating systems. It reminds me of the tools SVN Tortoise had for merging files. Generally it is very easy to use, giving you a visual representation of the files using colours highlighting the changes in the versions. Cons There isn't really anything to not like about this tool, it focuses on doing one thing and it does that very well. Loving so far! Pros For the past seven months, I've used WinMerge every day to maintain projects not under SVN control synced in the old school mode: a flash drive between two PCs that aren't connected to the internet. The gadget has seen better days, but it still performs an excellent job. To keep the comparison time low, I aim to keep the projects to fewer than 10,000 files. An SVN project is proposed at that time. We've been using it to track down changes in different versions of the papers so that we can preserve the most up-to-date information and eliminate any duplicates. Cons The software seems to be updated very rarely. Also, the design and overall looks and feel are of 90's apps. If Winmerge does UX/UI overhaul I'd be very happy. Review Source Muhammad Yousuf H. I found winmerge a feasible solution to counter this problem. Pros The most challenging situation software developers face is merging or comparing a code written by team mates. Winmerge provides simple and feasible solution for this problem. With graphical user interface I can easily compare and merge files with one click solution. Cons If files in folder are different . The graphical ui doesn't give a clear warning or message on that particular folder . I have many times missed important changes because of this unclearity. It allows me to quickly check that two data sources have the same content, and if not, lets me update one data source so it's a copy of another.
