" September 10, 2021 5.0 I use it daily as one of my editing tools, usually once at the start of an edit and once at the end when I've completed my manual edits. It is definitely a valuable program for what I do. Pros I like everything about PerfectIt, but I especially like that it checks for spelling and capitalization consistency across the manuscript. In book editing, that's very important. I also like that they recently partnered with Chicago Manual of style. That's my editing bible, so its incorporation into PerfectIt is great! Cons The only thing that annoys me is when I exit the program and it automatically defaults to "All Markup." Looking forward to seeing more major style guides integrated into PerfectIt in this way. Pros PerfectIt clears up many of the more "mechanical" steps in copy-editing, so you free up your brain to focus on the knotty problems that can't be automated. I run it twice on every edit, once at the start to clear the decks, and once at the end to check I haven't introduced any errors while I was working. It is very user friendly and I especially like the integration with the Chicago Manual of Style. Cons I wish that there was an option for words with apostrophes and similar punctuation from other languages to be included in the list of words for preferred spelling, spelling variations etc. This would put expressions I have to check, e.g. in Indigenous languages on an equal footing with English words. At the start of a project, I run PerfectIt to alert me to potential issues. At the end, I use it as a final polish before returning the project to my client. The ability to select individual checks (e.g. abbreviations) makes PerfectIt very useful for focusing on a particular area of concern. Cons There's nothing I don't like about PerfectIt! February 13, 2022 5.0 I have been thrilled with Perfectit. In just a few minutes, their reports can scan an entire manuscript and pick up numerous potential issues. One feature I especially appreciate is the program flags all similar potential mistakes, but ultimately, I can change them or leave them as they are. As a bonus, this program works with Track Changes -- an invaluable tool for editors or anyone else who collaborates with others on their writing. I had a problem once, and the customer service people resolved a technical glitch promptly. Pros I love Perfectit! This program has helped me tremendously over the past few years. As an editor, I have come to rely on the thorough checks this software performs to help me find things I may otherwise miss. Perfectit will catch if a word in a heading should be capitalized, missing quote marks or brackets, consistency in spelling and capitalization, and more. Pros Using PerfectIt makes checking document style so much easier and quicker than by just proofreading. I like the fact that you can set different style sheets, and that each is fully customisable regarding language, spelling and punctuation options. Cons There does not seem to be an "edit" option - only an "add" or "delete" in the "Edit style sheet" section. Also, if a Word doc opens in "protected view" the PerfectIt dialogue also comes up, even if I have not previously opened it or used it on other documents, which is totally unnecessary. It is easy to use, efficient, fast, and has helped me improve the quality of my proofreading. Pros PerfectIt is very user-friendly and easy to install. It integrates into Word so it is always readily available. I use PerfectIt when proofreading my and other translators' into-English translations, specifically to check for inconsistencies in spelling, hyphenation, capitalization, and abbreviations, which are often undetected by built-in QA in translation software/QA tools. This feature of PerfectIt is especially helpful when working on large documents as it saves a lot of time. I like that other than spelling variants, you can also choose different styles (UN Style, WHO Style, American legal style) and even create your own style, which definitely comes in handy when working with different clients and style guides. Also, this tool is very affordable compared to other tools on the market. Cons PerfectIt only works with documents that can be opened in Word. Review Source AS Arzyana S. PerfectIt is a life saver, It saves me a lot of time and energy in finishing my work, and best of all, the quality of the my work very much improved. I am very satisfied using PerfectIt and would continue using it. Pros As an academic, I often have to deal with many scientific reports (which often consisted of hundreds of pages) and scientific articles, which require high consistencies. PerfectIt just like its name, really perfect and an excellent match to my line of work. I could easily check my work and best of all, PerfectIt now works well with track changes. This way, I could show the changes that have been made in the document/article. PerfectIt's consistency checks simplify this process immensely! PerfectIt also helps me catch formatting or spacing problems introduced in documents during multiple rounds of edits, giving me an extra level of confidence in the quality of the manuscripts I return to my clients. Pros I appreciate that I can easily customize which checks I run to suit different documents and clients. I think it would also work well within an enterprise setting to help standardize documents from different individuals/departments according to a house style. Pros Consumer support comes directly from the program designer who goes above and beyond to help.When editing a book, especially long ones, even when using a style guide, a person sometimes misses words spelled with or without hyphens and other similar inconsistencies, and this is where I find PerfectIt most valuable ... in picking up those inconsistencies.It's super easy to install and use. Cons No problems that I've come across. If I HAVE to choose something, it's annoying that the program highlights contractions, but then I just switch off that check and it goes on happily. I run it again at the end of the job to pick up anything I might have missed. Pros PerfectIt is a fabulous tool, very user-friendly and with great technical support. An add-in to MS Word, PerfectIt will save you time and improve the quality of your writing or editing. I particularly like the style guides, which make it easy to adhere to particular spelling (e.g. Australian, UK or US English) or style (e.g. EU, UN or WHO). Cons The program has a lot of features that are not immediately obvious and I had used it for a couple of years before I realised how much it could actually do. I consider it my secret weapon as an editor—especially the consistency check and style guide check. No matter how eagle-eyed I consider myself, or how well-versed I am in the intricacies of the Chicago Manual of Style, it will always find something that's been inconsistently capitalized or hyphenated, or a CMOS quibble I've missed, and I'm so grateful. Cons It does sometimes crash mid-checks, which is annoying, especially as it requires shutting down Word and reloading the document entirely, but fortunately it doesn't take very long to hit "skip" until one is back to where one was in the checks process. I have saved countless hours of my life since I started using it. Cons I use both the PC version and the cloud version for Mac. I have no problems with the former, but the cloud version sometimes has difficulty with longer manuscripts, and hangs during the scanning phases. Pros It's easy to use, and has so many variations, I can write in UK/US/Australian English and it checks them all for me. It rapidly goes through even the longest documents making suggestions which are often the best option. Cons Sometimes it runs features which are not part of my document, so it would be nice to simply turn these off now and again, without going to settings.
