We create documents that are similar but would lack consistency due to different authors or changes over time. Using PerfectIt has brought our documents a level of consistency and improved readability I never believed we would get to. Highly Recommended! Pros I love how much time I save using PerfectIt! It's great at automating the simpler tasks, like finding missing closing quotation marks, and at ensuring consistency. PerfectIt is my right-hand-expert to give my work a thorough scrubbing before I deliver my projects to clients. Pros PerfectIt (version 4) was incredibly easy to integrate with my other software, which I have used for decades to copyedit more than 400 books and dozens of websites. It has brilliant, even dazzling, architecture that finds inconsistencies in spelling, capitalization, and hyphenation of thousands of words and phrases, and lets me fix them or keep them as appropriate (including whether to spell out acronyms after first use). It then shows me each passage under review, so that I can decide what to do, one by one issue. In fact, it has many tools that I never need to use (like table of contents, etc.). Love it to death! Cons I have not found any problems or missing "tools" in PerfectIt. Some other users might say it has TOO MANY tools, but they are not mandatory and some are not needed in certain kinds of writing (say, novels, or personal essays). This software is super helpful at checking for consistency as well as identifying minute details that, in the end, make the difference between a so-so edit and one that is at a truly professional level. Patents are precise legal documents. As such, the language needs to be clear and consistent. PerfectIt helps to ensure the my patent applications are consistent. It saves me and my paralegal many hours. The recent addition of the Chicago manual of style is a huge boon. Pros PerfectIt helps assure that the patent applications that I draft are consistent. It has become an essential part of my workflow. It is easy to setup and use. The integrated Chicago Manual of Style add-on helps me with finer points of grammar. Cons Overall PerfectIt is great, however, you still need to use your common sense and know what you are doing. For example, PerfectIt will flag the phrase "conically-shaped fastener" and the phrase "the fastener is conically shaped and includes ..." as having inconsistent hyphenation even though both usages are grammatically correct. This is not really a criticism of PerfectIt, per se, but a word of caution about depending too much on any type of grammar checking or AI tool. Review Source DD Donald D. Before sending my essay off for publication, I run PerfecIt. PerfectIt is usually the last step to give an essay or chapter a clean and professional look. Pros I use Grammerly and Wordrake for starters and then PerfectIt to make sure the entire presentation is correctly formatted and consistent in usage. It gives and essay or book chapters a final polish. TheChicago Manuel is an important feature in terms of scholarly usage. Cons It is slow and only does a short amount o9f text at a time. I've been a user for some years now, and the integration is effortless. Using it is extremely straightforward too. You don't need to spend hours learning. And it always, always, picks up stuff that's been missed. I also like the way you can customise each run so you don't, for example, pick up contractions in a novel but can in an academic piece. Pros I love that I can rely on it to catch little things that I might miss myself, and that I don't have to do manual searches in the text for things like different spellings or capitalization. I am extra thrilled now to have CMoS integrated in. Cons For a while Perfectit 4 wasn't working at all on my laptop so I always had to switch over to my desktop to use it. Pros PerfectIt speeds up and improves my consistency checks for style, punctuation, preferred spelling, etc. Much better than doing everything manually. It integrates smoothly with Microsoft Word and is easy to use. I love that it's now connected with Chicago Style. Cons When upgrading to the latest version, I found it took a long time to download but once integrated with Word, it has run smoothly. It is now connected to Chicago Style but does not yet check specifically for other style guides (e.g., MLA, AP). However, settings are customizable to suit your house style. It is easy to use and an essential tool in my editing arsenal. Pros PerfectIt lives up to its name, by allowing you to catch errors in a document that you missed the first (or second!) time around. It is customizable, which gives you the opportunity to add additional checks if necessary, and it performs grammar and style checks that go beyond a simple spelling check. As a professional editor, I find it invaluable for ensuring that documents are edited meticulously and consistently. Cons While this product is very easy to use on Windows, I have heard Mac users say the cloud version is not as robust. I know Intelligent Editing is working to improve that! December 16, 2022 5.0 Simply making my work a bit quicker and more efficient. Pros I find it helpful to run it through a book or chapter before physically readingit. It allows me to make simple corrections in advance and tells me what might arise. I can insert a comment instead of correcting if it is something I might have to decide about as I read or take up with the author. I probably don't use it to its full potential but it is still well worthwhile to me. Cons There is nothing that springs to mind.
