### "User-friendly and easy-to-build dashboards and reports"

April 27, 2026

Pros

User-friendly and allows people with little-to-no IT experience build reporting dashboards that automatically update.

Cons

Ran into some issues setting up data connections. I wish the dashboards had more interactive functionality.

### "Powehouse of datavisualisation, but a big investment."

April 27, 2026

4.0

It's clear that Tableau is an industry standard for creating dashboards and visualising data. It can go deep into analysis and present results in a completely customisable way. However, for smaller projects and lighter uses, it's an expensive piece of software. There are other competitors which are low cost and would get you 75% of the way there (e.g. Google Data studio and Power BI form microsoft).

Pros

I think the dashboards are beautiful, and drilling down into different levels gives you a lot of freedom in analysing trends. Connecting to databases is easy and there are many options e.g. SQL/CSV/Text.

Cons

There is a large learning curve to use Tableau for data visualisation and analysis, so in my opinion, training is required. Given that the licences are expensive, this makes the cost of entry to use Tableau in a company quite high, especially for small companies.

### "Dynamic and Intuitive Tool for Data Analysis"

May 7, 2025

5.0

Overall, Tableau is an excellent tool for data analysis and dashboard creation. You can quickly connect to multiple data sources, blend datasets, and visualize key metrics easily.

Pros

Tableau has intuitive and flexible data visualization capabilities. You can explore data visually in real time, spot trends, outliers, and insights without the need for DAX or codes.

Cons

Performance can slow down when working with very large datasets or complex dashboards. Also version control is very tricky and complicated so working on multiple versions is not very user friendly.

### "Tableau for shared dashboards"

December 2, 2024

5.0

I've used Tableau for creating dashboards tailored to the unique needs of different teams within the company. Most data sources used by Tableau were SQL Server databases, local Excel files, and Box files. What people used to create locally, in some very elaborated Excel files, was transferred in Tableau, shaped into interactive dashboards showing the important KPIs, visualizations on trends, etc. This way, the same dashboard could be shared to more people, so that each can explore data as per provided filters.

Pros

Tableau it's a powerful tool for data analysis and data visualizations. It provides powerful drill downs and calculations. Also, it can load data from a wide range of data sources (local files, SQL databases, Azure, etc).

Cons

The learning curve is quite steep. Also, it is rather difficult to embed Tableau dashboards into web pages and provide interactive action from the web page level; the Tableau.js library and support is slightly limited.

Switched from

### "Happy Overall!!"

June 4, 2025

4.0

Overall, I loved working on Tableau, and it was far easier to reflect percentages and explain historical and needed data to the team.

Pros

Easy and interactive projection of data. This helped me to project and explain data to my team not only in an interactive manner but also in a way that was easily understandable to them.

Cons

There is nothing negative about Tableau, precisely, but the setup can be a bit difficult at times, as it took me some time to get started.

Switched from

[Microsoft Excel](https://www.capterra.com/p/176574/Excel/)

So while Excel is easy to use and I have been using it for quite a long time, the change was advised by a senior and helped me.

### "Solid Visualization Tool"

February 13, 2026

5.0

Overall, I have used Tableau to produce dashboards for internal partners and external clients. Its integrations with Python and R have been particularly useful and unlock a whole other level of data manipulation and visualization options.

Pros

Tableau is a powerful data visualization tool that integrates well with a variety of data sources. It integrates will with Python and R, and even many of its native features provide clean, highly useful dashboards for communicating both with internal and external stakeholders.

Cons

Tableau's interface and integrations takes some getting used to, and there is a learning curve with unlocking all of its visualization and data management features. Once you're adapted to its quirks, though, it becomes a very powerful tool.

Pros

Strong, clear data visualisations that make insights easy to understand. Smooth drag‑and‑drop interface once you get used to it. Connects well to many data sources.

Cons

Steep learning curve for advanced features. Pricing can be high for smaller teams. Some workflows feel split between different Tableau products.

### "Easy to use and visualise data for all our internal stakeholders"

February 24, 2025

4.0

Overall been good, quite an easy learning curve when you know how and community provides good support even if customer service doesn't.

Pros

Easy to use, customise and create dashboards. One of the best pieces of software I've used to visualise data. A one stop shop for our internal stakeholders to monitor items important to them. Handles big amounts of data well.

Cons

If you're trying to get a lot of data onto a crosstab can become clunky to set up. The Customer Support also isn't great.

### "Powerful tool, has learning curve"

May 28, 2025

4.0

Powerful tool, has learning curve. It's great if you know how to use it, clunky if you don't. Requires advanced analytics skillsets.

Pros

Tableau is a very powerful and established BI tool. It is widely used at other companies, meaning that it's relatively to hire analysts who have Tableau experience.

Cons

Tableau has a steep learning curve, and has been described as "behind" in terms of "next-gen" analytics tools. Other tools are coming out with more intuitive & powerful query abilities as well as AI-based abilities.
