Pros Visualizations are very crisp and appealing to the eye, Tableau has one of the most professional and clean looks on the market. Tableau has the ability to handle large datasets (millions of records) and join datasets from multiple data sources. Sharing and monitoring usage of dashboards is also a great tool. Cons limited to the types of visualization, cookie cutter out of the box features require complicated workarounds as tableau isn't open source to manipulate at will. I am enjoying learning to use it and its many capabilities, to the point where it has been something I have explored in non-work capacities for things like sports. I am confident you will find Tableau useful in organizing and viewing your data. Pros I love the variety of ways data can be used. We have used Tableau for student data analysis with everything from grades and GPAs to attendance, demographic data, and class selection. I have seen it used elsewhere for sports statistics and finance. Quite frankly, Tableau is incredibly versatile and there is a massive potential for its use within your organization. There are some functionalities that are even just drag-and-drop, and using filters and search functionalities are extremely easy. It has made me a lover of data and visualizations and supports my presentations with data-driven insights on student retention. The visualizations allow me to present data to non-data people. Cons I am not an IT or Data professional. It had taken me some time exploring Tableau to get a feeling for how it works and how I can utilize it within my current position. You can report on almost anything in Tableau when it comes to performance/data analysis. Cons The more users you add, the slower the downloading can become. It sometimes takes a good deal of time to download reports, which can be frustrating at times when you need to look up data quickly. Analista Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "is a tool that helps me organize my work, it has many graphs and maps" May 4, 2018 5.0 Pros I can interconnect it with any database, driver, excel, text, the data is more accurate, you can make graphs easily and quickly, you can show data on maps with exact location, by states, municipalities, you can make graphs with data in days, years, months, you can make calendars and multiple help functions for the presentation of a work, I like the Dashboards, which you can place in the location that suits you, you can use a filter for all the graphics that you will use in the Dashboards Cons when saving many times it gives you an error and does not allow you to save the changes made, losing all the information already made, since you do not have an Internet connection you can not update the data, if you change the name of the database you are using it recognizes you and eliminates all the added data. The software is so easy to use with its drag and drop interface that overall it has greatly improved my productivity. Pros A major plus for Tableau is how well it integrates with other applications such as Excel and Oracle. I've hardly faced any issues with adding the files from these applications and overall Tableau makes it a smooth and easy process. I also like the fact that the company is always striving to improve their software as it shows dedication to the field. With every update I find that the new features help with my job quite a lot. Cons Like most software, Tableau does lag a little when it comes to uploading large files, I also find that it is a steep learning curve if you are not someone who doesn't have previous experience with similar data analysis software, however once you do get the hang of it, Tableau is a great asset to have. Specifically, this is to see how well our business has been faring in the various cities in which we operate in the UK, on specific dates around major events in those cities. Our company dashboard in Tableau has been fantastic for this. I also use it for various other projects and often find that other employees have created useful data sets in tableau beyond the dashboard. Pros I really like using our company dashboard, usually in combination with SQL through the metabase, to find virtually any data required for reports etc. The filtering function on the dashboard is excellent, it makes it very easy to isolate the required data. I also like how you can search the database for reports created by other users, it's really easy to search and it's also clear in showing who wrote the report. Cons I would say that my only issue with it is that it's very slow to load - sometimes it literally won't load at all if I'm trying to run a SQL code separately. I also find the home page a little messily structured with the recents, shared with me, and recommended tabs all a bit clunkily laid out. I also don't know if it's an issue with the software, or just with my company, but I haven't been able to download the desktop version to my PC. Review Source ZP Zolani P. If the speed problem can be solved, I won't complain anything about this app. Pros First of all, Tableau is a considerably powerful data visualization tool. In Tableau, you are able to create lots of fancy, interactive, and dynamic graphs. It also supports lots of data sources, so usually, you don't need to worry about connecting your data sources to Tableau. If you have any questions about using this app, you can simply go to the Tableau forum and post your question. Usually, you can get an answer within 24 hours. Cons Speed! Speed! Speed! When you have to deal with a large dataset, speed will become a major issue here. It can take several minutes to run a query. What is even more annoying is that it also takes several minutes to cancel a query. I really don't understand how it can take that long just to cancel a query. In general the UI is difficult and the interface and speed often clunky and slow which doesn't allow us to do those things well though. Pros Not much that I really like about Tableau. It's the industry standard so I guess that makes it good in that basically everyone uses it? Cons Tableau's UI is super complex and often features/tools don't behave as expected. I find it hard to make or create the graphs I want so often I'm just using Tableau as a way to build tables which I then export and manipulate in excel so that I can get the graphs/visualizations I'm looking for. Pros The SW is easy to deploy, install with no problems at all and you can get all the information you need without having to talk to someone. Cons It's not as easy to understand, the learning curve is steep, even for people with BI SW experience it's sometimes difficult to get something done if that's the first time you try it. Reason for choosing Tableau We really didn't choose Tableau ourselves, it was more like an imposition, but when you get to know the SW you understand that is not such a problem anymore.
