### "Amazing Visualization Tool"

January 24, 2021

5.0

I have nothing but praise for the product. The support, stability, and quality of visualizations are all great.

Pros

Tableau has a steep learning curve, but there are Youtube videos and online classes to help. The bulk of the visualizations can be completed using Tableau's recommended guides. If one is really skilled with the tool, complex visualizations can be created. I was thrilled to see a new feature that connects tables and was released in 2020, called noodles. It almost eliminates the need for level of detail calculations and makes it so much easier to create and support.

Cons

The size of your data file is dependent on the laptop/desktop computer. Most computers can handle 1+ million rows files but have trouble with 5+ million rows. Data files used by Tableau needs to have gone through a data cleaning tool like Prep, Alteryx, or something similar.

Reason for choosing Tableau

The company had already elected to use Tableau.

### "A great way for all users to understand data"

December 23, 2018

4.0

Pros

The organization of interface makes it easy for all users to find the data that they need. This adds so much to productivity since it means almost anyone can look at the data and complete the analysis without leaving the platform or writing their own queries. Users are also able to display and share data in an effective way. Ability to customize the color of sheets in the workbook are a great plus!

Cons

Integrating more keyboard shortcuts and making it easier to copy data to share to others would make this platform even more efficient to use!

### "Analysis of advanced data without advanced knowledge of data analysis."

March 26, 2018

5.0

Tableu allows you to integrate different systems into a single system to perform business intelligence without requiring much system knowledge. This is quick and easy to implement with good results.

Pros

Tableau has a unique GUI to connect to the databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL and others) where you only have to fill in the connection fields, besides it also uses files like Text File, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, JSON and others. The GUI to make the union is also simple and friendly, without knowing sql code, and allows to join tables from different databases.

Cons

if the data are complex analysis, there is not such thing as an ETL process that you can do similarly in an RDB. You will always have a need for a relational database.

### "Visualize your data with Tableau"

April 14, 2019

5.0

Truth be told, our company was only given a trial period for Tableau so I did not have an opportunity to fully explore the software as much as I would have liked. However, during the duration of the trial, I was able to quickly build some useful analytics. An example was an interactive map of the United States which allowed me to show location based data along with sales information for the line of business I support. The map displayed color coded regional information which could be easily drilled down to mortgage branch locations with hover boxes showing production data. Although the trial was for evaluation purposes for the time being, in the short amount of time I had to use the software, I could tell that Tableau would certainly be a viable application to significantly improve and streamline the way our department does reporting.

Pros

Tableau makes creating visually stunning dashboards and info-graphics relatively easy. You start by connecting to a data source (SQL database, Excel flat file, etc.) and then using various tools to present your information and analytics in a graphical way that's easy for your audience to understand. It supports a great deal of data input formats and offers a lot of flexibility in how to analyze and display information. Plus, the visualizations you create can be static for delivery via a rendered format like PDF or PowerPoint or published on the web for an interactive experience. You can present information at a high level and let your report audience drill into to the details.

Cons

There is a bit of a learning curve. I am a fairly good self-learner and when I first start using new software. I like to tinker and experiment before diving into documentation and manuals. Tableau is not difficult by any means, but some of the tasks you want to accomplish are not going to be obvious in terms of how they function. For example, I struggled at first with figuring out how to add subtotals to some data I had brought in. Of course I was able to readily do so once I researched via help files but that's the sort of thing I would have thought to be more intuitive and easy to figure out on my own first.

### "The top data visualization out there!"

January 23, 2019

5.0

Data visibility is huge. Being able to get to the most granular data is key and explains so much more than pre-aggregated data can.

Pros

Customization. There is so much here that if you can think of how to visualize something, there is an option in Tableau to bring your ideas to life.

Cons

Trying to use this tool as a non-technical person is rough. Learning curve is high and other users will just stick to excel.

### "Great, as long as your input data is"

August 16, 2021

4.0

I highly recommend ensuring that you have a go-to Tableau person to help translate, and question/check the data in the back end. They will become the best person for ensuring the data you are needing for client interactions is actually correct - always do a common-sense check!

Pros

Love that it is endlessly customizable - all the data and its interactions and visualizations are at your fingertips, as long as you know how to massage that data into what you need. I do love the ease of pulling reports and filtering

Cons

It can be difficult, and no fault of Tableaus, to ensure the data is "right" - in that, bad data in will be bad data out. So recognizing that your data sources should be cleaned and correct before inputting is key for managing expectations.

### "Visualize anything"

October 29, 2019

5.0

Great, we have recently incorporated into Server, and that really let the data fly.

Pros

Easy to learn, but complex enough. Visualization is robust and sufficient. Nothing fancy, but thats what you need for a visualization tool, its not for art.

Cons

Some functionalities can be weird, but there are work arounds for that, and future updates addresses some issue soon.

### "Extremely powerful BI and visualization tool"

May 13, 2022

5.0

Pros

Let's start with the interface. It is intuitive to get started quickly. The drag and drop functionality makes it simple for non-programmers to quickly build dashboards, while the scripting allows for powerful and complex logic woven into charts/graphs. The number of out of box integrations with data stores is also impressive. It allows for data pulls from multiple different data sources that seamlessly display a singular story. The collaboration aspects are also top notch. It's very easy to share and start editing reports. The cloud version is equally as good as on-prem. It also allows for cloud storage, which makes temp data processing easier.

Cons

The customer service can be a hassle to deal with. Often, tickets don't get answered until you ping them multiple times. Some bugs can remain open for months without any activity.

### "Best Self Service Business Intelligence tool"

April 2, 2018

5.0

Pros

For Data Scientists and advanced users, Tableau is the most efficient and powerful. Tableau offers different kinds of data visualizations and connectors to load once data. Tableau has 3 offerings. A free version with limited functionality. Then Tableau desktop and Tableau Online are available on subscription pricing model, which is way cheaper when compared to the traditional pricing. Tableau is a mature and stable product with a wide user base. Tableau is widely used in most companies i have worked for. Tableau introduced a new data engine called Hyper recently, which promises faster performance. Overall Tableau is a great product with bright future. In our company we leveraged it well.

Cons

Tableau is for sophisticated users. It requires training to get the best out of it. In our company we hired an experience consultant, who trained us and worked with us, so that we learnt all kinks of the tool.

### "Amazing features, bad design"

April 14, 2019

5.0

Pros

It's multiple connectors makes it super easy to start analyzing your data without bureaucracy. Also, when you extract the data, you can expect no interruptions while you make your data exploration on the go.

Cons

If you have a big report with a lot of database connections, Tableau won't handle them so well. Also, it's web server editor is so slow that I can't describe it with words. And they really should invest into better standard design to the panels. Also SQL colors in the standard editor would be a nice feature to add.

### "Tableau"

June 30, 2022

4.0

I use Tableau on a daily basis several times a day for reports that go out company wide. Tableau takes the hassle out of getting data from several different sources and integrates it into one place with easy to read and interpret visuals where applicable.

Pros

Easy to use and analyze specific data needed. It puts everything in one place in easy to read graph's, tables, spreadsheets which can easily be transferred to things like excel, word, etc.

Cons

sometimes depending on the set-up its hard to locate things but that may be due more to how the company sets up folders vs the software.

### "Love Tableau"

December 6, 2023

5.0

I love how easy it is to look at my own metrics, compare with colleagues to get a sense of where improvement is needed. Just to keep pace with myself and make sure I'm doing the best to my ability.

Pros

Tableau makes employees stats, such as how our members interact with our product, so easy to read and in a very well organized fashion.

Cons

Honestly, the only thing that I like least about Tableau is sometimes it's a little slow to load. However, I know that can be to how much data is being processed.

### "Make your data pretty and wow your colleagues"

October 19, 2017

4.0

Pros

Create powerful data viz products with a 'wow' factor relatively easy. Plenty of self-instruction videos and forums. Formal training not necessary. Useful for both technical user exploratory analysis and non-technical customer facing dashboards. Tableau Reader is free, so you potentially have an unlimited audience within your organization.

Cons

Can be finicky about certain things but you learn your way around them. Software updates are way too frequent. We have a large customer base and it's challenging to keep track of who needs to upgrade to which Tableau Reader version. Certain features such as scheduled refreshes are reserved for Tableau Server.

### "One-of-a-Kind Software that Yields Major Insights"

December 5, 2018

5.0

We've been able to find many undetected problems and unrealized opportunities by plotting data from many difference sources together via Tableau. This met our needs and prevented us from having to buy a much more expensive DMP.

Pros

Tableau allows us to combine and reference data sources from a wide variety of places. No other software that we've found allows us to cross-reference data from completely different applications/platforms.

Cons

It's fairly expensive, and you also need very technical skills within your staff to make the most of what you've invested in.

### "One of the best data representation tools"

December 16, 2018

4.0

Pros

1\. It is really simple to import data into this software for generating visuals 2. The user interface is pretty simple and easy to use. 3. It understand the data and generates charts based on the data provided. 4. It provides various custom charts to organize data and represent it in various formats. 5. It is highly secure and reliable. 6. These charts can easily be shared and used by other 3rd party applications or be integrated into other tools.

Cons

Microsoft PowerBI is a great tool because of the flexibility it provides to sync and integrate its data with the Microsoft as well as other applications. It is expensive and the features need to be enhanced. Haven't found a way to integrate it with AI applications, however, I could integrate Microsoft PowerBI with Cortana and generate results instantly.

### "THANK GOD FOR TABLEAU"

January 30, 2019

5.0

Tableau works for everything from large directories of company personnel - that may change in position, address, etc. on a daily basis - to complex visuals of logistics, shipping, and agriculture. It helps tell data-rich visual stories in a way that would have taken 20 charts or slides previously.

Pros

End of the days of endless static powerpoint charts!! Thank God for Tableau's ability to connect to complex databases or Alteryx, and host live, shifting dashboards for clients. It's not perfect, but the ability for people to visually explore data through dynamic features is such a game changer for people who rely on metrics on a day to day basis. All strategy consultants everywhere, hail Tableau for revolutionizing management dashboards.

Cons

Tableau can be tricky to learn, and the ways to make modifications on chart type, colors, etc. can be unintuitive. You also need clean, usable data to make it work well.
