The software is consistently being updated and is very easy to update with each new update. The types of data sources that can be used include a wide range from excel spreadsheets, google drive, SQL, etc. The software enables you to create a wide range of visualizations and calculations. Cons As someone who did not originally deal with datasources or data visualization, I found the software to be slightly complex to learn, not very intuitive. Took me a while to get used to the software and I still constantly refer to tableau documentation but the software is very complete and great way to prepare and share information with others in the company. March 2, 2018 5.0 This has become a go-to reporting solution for our team. Pros Tableau is a very intuitive data visualization tool. We use both the desktop version, for report development, and Tableau server for publishing reports for our staff. The tool is very flexible when it comes to data connections - you can connect to almost anything. The interface is very clean and once you get the hang of dimensions and measures you will be on your way to becoming a data viz master. Tableau has come along way with their ability to join data sources. This has been a major area of improvement in the last release. Tableau has a huge online support community and the few times I have had to use their customer support it was exceptional. Cons There are times I wish you could do more statistical analysis in Tableau. They have some built in components for this, but in my opinion this is one of the weaker areas of the tool. Cons Some of the features like formatting and page layout aren't always the easiest to setup. There is a lot of guess and trial and error with trying to get the formatting just right. Tableau offers many different types of graphs and visualization techniques. There are even formulas that allow for data manipulation within Tableau that is not reflected in the original source. Tableau is also so widely used that finding educational materials on the internet ie YouTube and forums is very simple. Once a user has a basic understanding, creating professional dashboards that can be presented to the end user is quick and simple. Cons Though Tableau has copious options, features, bells, and whistles, it takes some getting used to. Pros The speed in which data can be shown is incredibly quick. You can toggle between views and different data sets at a very fast pace, it works far quicker than anything else I've used. Cons It isn't the prettiest of UI's and I'd say that it isn't hugely intuiative for someone to use out of the box, regardless of your profeciency with software. You do really need some training to get the most out of the product. But if you need complex reports pulling from multiple platforms to make your business decisions, it's preferable to building complex excel reports - and the ability to limit access to who gets what report (and ensure people aren't accidentally changing your reports) is a good thing. Pros I like the tool's ability to pull data from multiple sources to build custom reports. The possibilities for how to view your data really are endless. Cons Navigation throughout the product could be smoother. Sometimes it's not intuitive - I used it for a year before I realized I had to click in the report before it would allow me to download more than a PDF or image. I currently have a report that's giving me bad data and I don't know enough to troubleshoot it - not sure if the fault lies with the tool or the people who built the report. Review Source Victor P. For the most part, everything is very responsive and easy to view and understand. Filtering data is super easy and makes diving into large chunks of data manageable. Cons I wish there was an easier way to have reports automatically emailed to you daily rather than just subscribing to the view. Also, navigating through workbooks and different views can be a mess if you aren't careful with how you add data. Having too many people working on different projects can get messy real fast. There is so much you can do with Tableau creatively. Cons It has its limitations. There is no donut chart feature so you have to create one by layer pie charts. Resizing components can be very counterintuitive. The programme has been known to crash. And it can be very expensive.
