Pros There are a few major reasons I like this software: 1. Easy to link to other databases/workbooks, and live updating is useful. 2. Visualizations are awesome and easily to build and manage. 3. Mapping software is very easy to use, as we look at the county level for a lot of items. Cons 1\. Location tracking from addresses is hard to use - can easily map out to cities, but making maps on addresses requires users to input coordinates, which can take longer. Below is a list of positives: - Intuitive and easy to use for basic visuals - Mapping tables is easy to do - Chart for pretty much any scenario - Beautiful designs (check the gallery on their site) - Can connect to pretty much any data source - Free version with Tableau Public Cons While Tableau is beautiful and can do so much, it can be daunting and difficult to use for more complex visuals. But thanks to Tableau we can automatically generate these figures and send them 10 times faster. Pros Tableau saves me a lot of time when producing monthly reports to our colleagues and partners. Cons Sometimes I don't know how to perform a certain action, and the online information on how to solve this is not always easy to find. I spend a lot of time searching forums for the answers. With the new pricing, the quality / price ratio is fair enough. Pros \- Tableau server : Ability to publish reports and share the data with the wanted parties in 2 clicks - Data download : Downloading data ( raw format or tabular ) directly from the report - Variety of customisable charts and dashboards - Use of parameters : Passing values using parameters will make the report more customisable Cons \- Extract and automated refreshing process are a bit buggy. - UI will crash if the report is built on top of an important amount of data ( depends also on the UI and how many filters are used ) - Live connexion feature do not scale well with the size of data used. One of the better visualization software's out there for its price range. Cons It takes a long time to learn everything that the software can do. The set up is not easily intuitive, and can get so granular that is almost necessary to take a course on the software to fully understand it. We love the data visualizations that we are able to produce, and we are constantly upgrading our visuals as we learn new things to do with Tableau. And there are a lot of things to do with Tableau! Cons It took a long time to implement. The data modeling and joining capability are a little confusing and harder to follow than some of our previous solutions (SAP solutions). This is perfect for presentations as well as for reports. There is also tons of online support and groups to help you learn to use the programs. I especially liked that they offer challenges for you to complete. Cons This program is expensive and is time-consuming to learn. The free version is public and is limited with what you can do, however, it is possible to learn and use the program on the free version. You do not need to have any programming or network skills to build dashboards from huge data sets, it is as simple as drag and drop rows/columns to make a bar graph. By allowing us to combine data from several sources across our business lines we are able to get accurate screen shots of how our sales people are performing to goal. We love that the data updates weekly. This really helps our sales team to be able to patch leakage in travel programs right when they become an issue and thus reduce the lost room nights. Prior to this, we would have to rely on at least five different programs to generate the necessary reports, whereas Tableau allows all users to access one platform to get what we need. It is a time saver, and provides useful visualizations beyond just raw data. Pros Tableau is a powerful tool. The depth to which you can retrieve and analyze data is its biggest asset. Any company serious about leveraging data and harnessing it to develop actionable strategies needs to at least seriously consider Tableau's platform. Cons The single biggest drawback is how slow and laggy the platform can be. Although I am only a user and not the admin, it does seem like the platform is down fairly often for maintenance. I'm not sure if that is internal for my company, or for Tableau's platform, but either way it seems to occur regularly. Also, the data visualizations are powerful, but navigating the platform itself definitely takes time to get used to. Be prepared to spend a few hours at a minimum before you are comfortable with the program. Review Source JW Jared W. July 16, 2019 3.0 Helps me with great insights on my user base and other helpful items, but I know I'm not reaching my potential in it. Maybe a Tableau training could help it feel more valuable to me. Pros Tableau can show some really great information and I like the various dashboards and details I can get. Being able to download user data into a CSV is a game changer as well that I really like. Cons I don't know half of what to do in Tableau and it doesn't seem user friendly at all. I know it has all these capabilities but I don't know how to maximize them. Sometimes it won't let me download the crosstabs immediately and I have to click in the data several times. I often find myself taking screenshots of information because there isn't an easy way to download or export. Review Source Lynnette C. To have a single source of truth that stands despite staff changes and process updates in incredibly valuable. Pros This software seems capable of pulling data from just about any source - we feed in from Salesforce, LogMeIn Rescue and a host of other CRM and Financial programs to create clear, usable dashboard that keep metrics available at a glance. Cons This is definitely a tool that needs a good brain behind it to ensure that metrics delivered meet all required filters and displays.
