### "One of the best Data Visualizations tools right out of the box"

October 25, 2023

5.0

Overall Tableau has been an excellent data visualization tool that has allowed me to quickly create high quality, impactful dashboards.

Pros

Tableau makes creating impactful, visually attractive dashboards quick and easy. The software connects to most structured data sources to quickly import your data and you can then link your data in the software to create additional tables that you can build visual from. A very flexible data visualization tool.

Cons

When you are trying to create complex dashboard or blend data across multiple primary keys it can be difficult to do inside the tools and I found myself creating custom tables in a SQL database to get the correct data blend. Large data sets, especially calculated fields can really slow down the software and make the dashboard feel sluggish. There are also certain actions / chart changes that feel like they should be simple but take "hacking" the software to accomplish. These can be frustrating and time consuming.

### "Tableau Review"

May 22, 2023

4.0

I typically leverage Tableau to solve a variety of business problems, such as analyzing sales performance, monitoring operational efficiency, tracking marketing metrics, and gaining insights from customer data. The benefits I realize from using Tableau often include improved data-driven decision-making, enhanced visibility into business metrics, time savings in data analysis and reporting, and improved collaboration and communication through interactive dashboards.

Pros

The most impactful features of Tableau for me are its powerful data visualization capabilities and the ability to create interactive and insightful visualizations. I find the product relatively easy to use, especially with its intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Integration with existing business processes varies depending on the specific use case and data sources involved. However, Tableau provides a wide range of data connectors, making it easier for me to connect and analyze data from various sources.

Cons

One aspect that I may like least about Tableau is the learning curve associated with advanced functionalities. While Tableau offers a comprehensive set of features, mastering them may require dedicated time and resources for training. I also have concerns about the pricing structure of Tableau, particularly for smaller organizations or individual users. Integration with existing business processes can be challenging if there are complex data requirements or if substantial data transformation is needed before analysis.

Tableau is an instrument of study and visualization of data that makes it possible to transform complicated data into clear and legible graphics. This business solution focuses on administration, processing and data present accessible to anyone, independent of their technical knowledge.

Pros

One of the points that fascinates the most quadrant is its ease of use. The intuitive interface of the platform allows users to work with the data in a simple and efficient way. The tool has a gigantic proportion of pre -designed possibilities and resolutions that facilitate the construction of graphics, panels, reports and consultations.

Cons

One of Tableau's most relevant disadvantages is its cost. Variants of although there are accessible Gastruit limited ones, most of the functionalities of the advanced tools only remain accessible in payment plans.

### "User-friendly dashboard/report Tool"

August 7, 2023

4.0

Tableau is amazing software that has greatly aided our data analysis efforts. Tableau meets all of our needs for data analysis and dashboard creation. The nicest element is that direct use of ad hoc data needs is possible, with no dependencies.

Pros

One of the most useful features of Tableau is the flexibility with which its dashboards may be filtered. Information that is simple to understand, demonstrate, and infer. Any group may quickly and simply extract useful data thanks to a drag-and-drop interface.

Cons

Data syncing problems can cause the dashboards to malfunction. Notifications about impending outages would be greatly appreciated. however, that shouldn't be a deal breaker.

### "The de facto tool for all future analytical instrumentation professionals"

May 27, 2021

5.0

It helped me to combine multiple data sets and create easy-to-understand graphs. I used to use Access and Excel to create matrix tables and graphs, but with the sequential conversion to Tableau, I was able to obtain results in about an hour instead of a full day, which dramatically reduced our work time. The result was a dramatic improvement in efficiency. As I was able to drill down and deepen our analysis, I was able to visualize things that I had not been able to express before, and I was able to notice issues that I had missed. The data mart was built at the same time as the introduction of Tableau, and the data sources are now centrally managed, which strengthens governance. Since I can now check the results on a daily basis, which I used to be able to check only on a weekly basis, the speed of the PDCA cycle has increased, and I am now able to challenge various ideas more ambitiously. The ability to visualize data in an easy-to-understand manner has made the task of "communicating" easier.

Pros

I used to use Access and Excel to create reports on data aggregation and analysis of the current situation, which changed every day, and I had to repeat the same tasks over and over again each time. However, since I started to use Tableau, the freshness of the most important data has not deteriorated, and I can visually view the data reflecting almost real-time data. The basic operation is not difficult for beginners. The basic operations are easy to get used to, even for beginners, and it is not that difficult to get started. I can organize data that Excel can't handle and put it together in a way that is easy to understand, and I can use the UI to cross-tabulate, graph, and visualize changes in numerical values, making it very convenient to use. Another advantage is that no knowledge of SQL or other programming languages is required to handle the data. Since visualization can be done interactively, which is usually difficult when there is a considerable amount of data, it is easy to make considerations based on the data. Since it is possible to quickly change the chart (change the aggregation unit, change the axis, change the filter, etc.), it is easy to get new insights since it is stress-free to look at the data, consider the results, and change the approach again. Data visualization that involves aggregation is powerful anyway.

Cons

I would like to see a more complete set of manuals. Statistical knowledge is not necessary, but some of the expressions on the screen are difficult to interpret, and it takes time to get used to them. The visualization is not intuitive, and when you try to do something a little more elaborate, it has its own quirks, and I think it requires training to make the visualization look the way you want. As for the display format of the graph, you can easily switch the format by selecting from the palette, but it is difficult to find the menu for things like drawing auxiliary lines. Sometimes it takes a long time to load the data, so it would be very helpful if that could be improved. It doesn't depend on the size of the data or the environment of the PC, so I would really like to see this improved. It tends to be very slow due to slow loading of data and loading every time you switch tabs. It is not suitable for advanced analytical simulations such as statistical analysis or predictive modeling. It is only a visualization tool. I would like to see more options for license types and prices. The price hurdle is too high, so please make it easier to introduce.

### "I just love it."

May 8, 2024

5.0

It is just great. Functionality, UX. What often stays underappreciated is the Tableau community. Even though the support far from being the best one (I guess company grew too big), one can always find the answers in the community or simply share a sample workbook and others will help.

Pros

I love almost everything about the Tableau. It is a pure joy to create and analyze report. The data visualization capabilities are simply the best on the market and it is so easy to use that it is just mind-blowing. One can connect Tableau workbook to almost any imaginable data source and in a matter of minutes create a great report.

Cons

It is really hard to think about the cons, but if it is really necessary then Tableau Prep can be quite slow if the file tend to combine more than three sources with the number of columns exceeding a 100. Even if the number of rows is fairly small (less than 1000).

### "The Best All-Around Starting Point for Data Viz"

May 21, 2022

5.0

I've primarily used Tableau to automate regular KPI dashboard reporting - taking reports that were once done done in Excel using pivot tables and graphs and putting a coat of polish on them. It also allows us to be more hands-off since we can set up automated email delivery, and also set up alerts that warn of us when KPIs are either too high or low, suggesting either a data issue, or some other trend worthy of closer attention.

Pros

Tableau is accessible and easy to use across teams with various levels of technical ability. You can build the simplest of tables or bar charts, or go all in with dynamic stories, automated data pipelines, email reporting, alerts, etc. The ability to automate graphs/charts with alerts and email output has streamlined our entire analytics reporting process and saves hours per person per week. It's the kind of tool you don't fully appreciate until you use it, and almost all teams could benefit from a dedicated tool that goes beyond Excel for all things visual.

Cons

One small annoyance is that alignments can be tricky when using multiple tables or charts in a single dashboard. Trying to adjust column widths across tables can be especially challenging. This comes up a lot with client-facing reports where we want to present multiple tables with a clean, cohesive look. I'd also love to see more analytical features built in. For example, we use Tableau to visually demonstrate conversion rates for A/B testing, but there isn't an easy (first-party) way to perform any kind of A/B test (or show the results from one) in the dashboard.

### "Tableau: Your gateway to Data Visualization"

October 11, 2022

4.0

Pros

Tableau gives the user ease of use and can transform data from traditional rows and columns to interactive graphs and visualizations that show the data in a more clear picture. just like pivot tables, it can be played around with. It prompts users to select the most optimal representation of the data. if say suppose the data is based on countries and their GDP it will give a map representation for the data. Gives plenty of functions and options to choose from while plotting these datasets. It lets one easily manipulate the data to fit their visualization and finally build a KPI dashboard.

Cons

Tableau is an excellent way to clean data and conduct an exploratory analysis of one's data. However, I would rate Power BI and Alteryx higher in this category as they also provide ETL services while Tableau focuses more on visualization.

### "Tableau: The Game-Changing Data Analysis Tool"

February 21, 2023

4.0

Tableau is widely recognized as a powerful and versatile tool for exploring and analyzing data. Its user-friendly interface and ability to connect with a wide range of data sources make it a popular choice. However, it can be relatively expensive, has a learning curve for new users, and may not be as customizable as other data visualization tools. Overall, Tableau is a top choice for data analysis and visualization.

Pros

User-friendly interface that is easy to use and modify visualizationsPowerful data analysis capabilities for exploring and analyzing large datasetsSupports connectivity with a wide range of data sourcesInteractive dashboards that allow viewers to interact with the dataCustomization options to tailor visualizations to specific needsLarge and active user community that provides support and resourcesEasy integration with other software and tools, such as Microsoft Office and Salesforce.

Cons

Cost: Tableau can be relatively expensive, especially for small businesses or individual users.Steep learning curve: While the interface is user-friendly, the tool's advanced features may require some technical expertise, leading to a learning curve.Limited collaboration features: Tableau is not as collaborative as some other data visualization tools, which can be a drawback for teams.Limited customization: While Tableau offers some customization options, it may not be as customizable as some other data visualization tools.Limited functionality without additional tools: To perform certain functions or use specific data sources, additional tools or software may be required.

### "Easy to use and maintian data visualization."

December 1, 2022

5.0

Excellent overall - prior to implementing tableau most of our enrollment data was tracked in exports to Excel or csv files. Today we provide our board level reports in real time, via dashboard, to our board members directly. No back end work, no data manipulation - we just provide them a link and they and see and play with the data as they see fit.

Pros

Tableau is easy to use, easy to learn, and is an immensely powerful visualization tool. On a single dashboard our student services team can monitor anything from enrollment to advising to course loads in particular classrooms. There is a curve to set it up, but once you navigate the curve and get your data sets in place the software is very much fire and forget. Modifying reports or dashboards is very simple.

Cons

I'd love for there to be a lower cost enterprise license or a way for us to disperse dashboards to end users who only need to see but not manipulate the data. We hesitate to host these on a page internally or externally due to data protection requirements at the federal and state levels.

Reason for choosing Tableau

Not applicable - we had a new employee start who had significant Tableau experience - that worker was the drive behind adopting the product.

### "Amazing for data analysis and exploration, not great for dashboards"

September 14, 2022

3.0

At my team we use Tableau as a data exploration tool for data practitioners, and not for dashboards and data reporting to the company. This setup takes advantage of what Tableau does best and don't use it for what it doesn't. Tableau as a data reporting and dashboard tool may be suited for more traditional organizations, with a lot of experienced BI personnel who can take the time to build good dashboards with it.

Pros

Tableau allows for very good exploratory data analysis, and one can build amazing visualizations with it. Once you learn how to work with it, it becomes very easy to explore data and get insights from it.

Cons

Tableau is very expensive compared to its competitors, and if you want to get the whole company using it for dashboards, the pricing is certainly prohibitive for startups. I also don't Tableau for Dashboards, as the discovery and navigation interface is not very inviting to business users and dashboards are hard do discover. At the same time, building dashboards on Tableau is a lot less straightforward than in other tools. One can build very advanced dashboards, but that requires a lot of time and expertise, which not all Data users in a company will be.

### "A premium option at a premium price point "

December 19, 2020

4.0

Overall Tableau is a great BI/Visualization tool where the only limitations are what your team can do with it. The platform itself has every bell and whistle you could want and provides a ton of customization for various use cases. The challenge arises when moving to the logistical management of the platform, specifically around access, user education and price. While it might be great for individual organizations, our use case of deploying dashboards to hundreds of clients just isn’t what Tableau was built for. If you have the right use case and team to support it, it’s a fantastic option. But if you’re lacking in those areas (or perhaps want a tool with more automatic BI/AI capabilities), there’s likely a better option for your organization.

Pros

There is a reason that Tableau is synonymous with data visualization tools to many people and organizations. It’s a premium product that can do pretty much whatever you want it to. Tableau’s features are limitless and with the proper resources to maintain and deploy it, you’ll rarely identify capabilities that it doesn’t have. It is truly a BI tool that enables your team to overcome any obstacle they face. I specifically enjoyed some of the advanced visualization capabilities of Tableau that more “basic” tools don’t offer. The time series visualizations are easy to configure and are always a crowd favorite. The ability to deploy on-premise or in the cloud means that organizations can configure to their preference. All in all, it is an incredibly powerful tool that leaves very few stones unturned.

Cons

The three biggest drawbacks to our organization continuing with Tableau were ease of use, cost scalability and functional scalability. Tableau is not the tool for organizations that lack technical resources. It’s not as “plug and play” as other options on the market and requires significant training of architects to fully take advantage of all its capabilities. Tableau also isn’t the ideal solution if price is an obstacle in your organization. Frankly, it ain’t cheap. Depending on your desired level of investment and the number of users you’ll need, it can run the tab up quickly. Additionally, user management in Tableau itself isn’t an issue, but deployment presents its challenges. Other options on the market are much easier to introduce users to (here’s your login, go to this URL and boom, you’re good to go) whereas Tableau requires more configuration. This is dependent on which Tableau version you utilize, but there are efforts involved in scaling the platform.

Alternatives considered

[Geckoboard](https://www.capterra.com/p/153066/Geckoboard/)

Reason for choosing Tableau

Frankly, these two products couldn’t be more opposite. While Geckoboard is easy to configure and scale, it is INCREDIBLY limited in functionality and visualization options. They just aren’t even the same type of tool, though we considered both for scalable dashboard needs. We eventually moved to Grow as our permanent solution since it was a kind of middle ground between these two extremes.

### "Great Tool to gather and analze data in a visual and interactive way!"

September 21, 2023

5.0

I use tableau to analyze data, create dashboards and report the inisghts taken from them. The major benefit is the freedom that you have to create any type of way you want to analyze your data and how interactive it can be to give you the best view/analysis you need for your business.

Pros

What I like the most is the fact that tableau is able to generate almost any type of dashboard in order to analyze data in a very easy and interactive way. It gives freedom for the employee to not only analyze the data in given dashboards but also to create their own with their tech team. Which increases ways of seeing the data, analyzing and reporting.

Cons

Since its a considerable amount of data that I use in my case, sometimes tableau "laggs" a bit and it doesn´t load very quickly. I think that would be the only downside of tableau in my perspective.
