### "Easy to use and powerful for screenshots, annotations, and quick recordings"

April 27, 2026

4.0

My overall experience with Snagit has been very positive. In my consulting work, I often need to explain product ideas, document workflows, point out issues, or give feedback to clients quickly and clearly. Text alone is often not enough, and basic screenshot tools do not offer the editing and annotation capabilities I need. Snagit makes it easy to capture exactly what I want, mark it up, and share it in a way that is immediately understandable. The biggest benefit for me is speed. Snagit has helped me create documentation faster, produce training materials more efficiently, and communicate issues or recommendations to clients with less back-and-forth. I also use it for screen recordings, which makes it easier to walk someone through a process instead of writing a long explanation. From a workflow perspective, Snagit improves both clarity and responsiveness. I can turn a question, bug, or idea into a visual explanation in just a few minutes, which helps move client work forward faster and makes my communication more effective overall. While I do have some concerns about pricing and occasional performance issues, the product still delivers enough value that I continue to use it every day.

Pros

What I like best about Snagit is how quickly I can capture, edit, and share visual information without disrupting my workflow. I use it daily in my consulting work for screenshots, annotated images, documentation, training materials, client communication, and quick screen recordings. Its greatest value for me is that it lets me turn an idea, issue, or explanation into a polished visual in just a few minutes. The user interface is one of Snagit’s strongest points. It feels intuitive, so I rarely have to stop and think about where a tool is or how to accomplish something. That matters a lot when I’m moving quickly between client work and internal deliverables. The editing tools strike a great balance between simplicity and capability. They are easy to use, but still much more powerful than built-in screenshot tools. I can quickly add callouts, annotations, highlights, and other visual cues without opening a more complex design application. I also like that Snagit supports screen recording in addition to static screenshots, which makes it more versatile for walkthroughs, demos, and training content. The integration with Camtasia is another advantage, since it gives me a straightforward path from quick captures to more polished video content when I need it. Overall, the biggest workflow benefit is the combination of speed and clarity. Compared with basic screenshot utilities or limited tools like Paint, Snagit helps me create clearer explanations faster. That reduces back-and-forth, improves communication, and makes it easier to show clients exactly what I mean when I’m explaining issues, instructions, or concepts.

Cons

What I dislike most about Snagit is the pricing, especially now that it is more subscription-oriented. As a solo consultant, I pay close attention to software costs, and while I use Snagit enough to justify the expense, the price still feels a bit high for a tool with a fairly focused use case. For someone who only needs occasional screenshots or basic annotations, it may be harder to justify than built-in tools or lower-cost alternatives. I have also experienced occasional performance issues. Most of the time, Snagit works well, but there are moments when it feels slower than it should, which can be frustrating since I use it frequently throughout the day. Because speed is one of the product’s biggest strengths, any slowdown tends to stand out more. These drawbacks have not outweighed the value for me, but they are the main trade-offs in my experience. I still use Snagit daily because the workflow is strong and the editing tools are significantly better than what simpler screenshot utilities offer. Even so, pricing and occasional performance hiccups are the two areas where I think there is the most room for improvement.

### "Must-have software"

September 19, 2025

5.0

It's useful for show other people what you are referring to on anything that you have on your computer. Quickly allows collaboration with visual cues that you can copy and paste in emails or on PPTX slides. Great training and SOP's

Pros

I have this application on my personal computer and my work computer. I cannot go without it. the Screen capturing and the ability to add rectangles/circles/arrows to draw attention to webpages or other software is so helpful.

Cons

I don't use the video capture aspect since I use Camtasia if I need to edit videos. I wish there was a pin-favorite-stamps area that would be locked to the interface. for example a big red "x" that could be easily added to the screen shot.

### "A Must-Have Tool for Clear Documentation and Training"

March 13, 2026

5.0

My overall experience with Snagit has been extremely positive. It has become an essential part of how I create documentation, training materials, and internal knowledge base content. Instead of writing long instructions, I can capture a screenshot, add annotations, or record a short video to show exactly what someone needs to do. This saves time, reduces confusion, and improves communication across teams. Customer support and training workflows especially benefit from having clear visual guidance. Snagit makes that process fast and consistent. For anyone who regularly creates documentation, tutorials, or support materials, it’s an incredibly valuable tool.

Pros

Snagit is one of the most useful tools in my daily workflow. It makes it incredibly easy to capture screenshots, record quick videos, and annotate visuals so instructions are clear and easy to follow. The screen capture tools are fast and flexible. I can grab a full screen, a region, or scrolling content in seconds. The built-in editing tools make it easy to add arrows, highlights, text, and callouts that turn a simple screenshot into a clear step-by-step guide. The video capture and editing features are also extremely helpful. I often record short walkthroughs or explanations for teammates and customers. Being able to trim clips, add simple visual cues, and share quickly saves a lot of time compared to writing long explanations. From a security standpoint, I appreciate that the tool runs locally and allows me to control what I capture and share. That matters when working with internal documentation or sensitive systems. Overall, it delivers excellent value for money. It replaces several tools in one package and significantly speeds up documentation, training, and support workflows.

Cons

The video editing features are great for quick clips, but they are still fairly basic compared to dedicated video editing software. For more complex video production, you would still need another tool. The interface also has a lot of features, which can feel a bit overwhelming for new users at first.

### "Ugh... why pay for this"

January 5, 2025

for very basic simple things, that Windows itself can also do, it is OK.

Pros

It works - mostly. The annotating is OK.

Cons

Large images and the "scroll" captures are buggy at best and take forever and then fail. Also cannot easily change an image type, for example when trying to capture a "WEBP image"

### "Essential Documentation Tool"

April 23, 2024

5.0

I love Snagit as a documentation, note-taking, and collaboration tool. It enables me to effectively communicate with coworkers with clear, visible screenshots and videos, allows me to be better about documenting processes, and allows for me to retain a backup of notes and screenshots for professional use.

Pros

I enjoy the ability to seamlessly use keybinds to quickly capture images. The built in tools allow me to mark up and create excellent, professional documentation.

Cons

I dislike that I am unable to add text to videos natively.

### "By far, the best there is"

April 26, 2024

5.0

I found SnagIt while working at another firm about 10 years ago and I've made sure that it was available for me to use in my successive positions. I also purchased my own version for home use. It's the only program for screen capture IMO. Nothing else compares.

Pros

Ease of use, no need to read a book first -- load, launch and go to work.

Cons

Would like a default setting for use so if I switch in order to record video, my next launch will start out back to screen recording.

### "Snagit, practical software to capture your screen"

August 28, 2023

5.0

In general, it is a useful and practical software to use, a person without technical knowledge can learn to use it from the first time, it saves the videos in the cloud and integrates very well with Camtasia.

Pros

I have been using snagit since it was called Jing, then Techsmith capture, in my experience I can say that it is easy and practical to use when recording a screen, its menu is not intrusive, and it can be used with hotkeys to quickly access its functions, it has many ways to capture the screen, you can select a window, a certain area, or the entire window.

Cons

What I don't like is that in a relatively short time, it has changed its name and this tends to cause brand confusion. Another negative aspect is that with certain antiviruses its recording stops, this can be very frustrating, since you don't realize it and you have to start the screen recording again.

### "A stable application and easy to work with."

December 2, 2020

4.0

Overall, it's a very good deal for your money. Compared to other applications in the market, SnagIT application is very stable and dependable. It feels like a more tested and rounded product to use. The support from SnagIT team has been outstanding at the time of installation and later on when I had doubts. I hope they bring in the image size compression functionality soon.

Pros

These are the Pros I've witnessed on a day-to-day usage - Easy to install and learn to use - Affordable pricing with the license - Easy launch at anytime with shortcuts - Good quality Screen video + Webcam + System audio + Mic audio - Assorted collection of presets and templates - Different settings for GIF export - Best for panoramic screen capture - Many editing and styling option for images - Fast render, easy saving, and sharing - Hardly ever freezes or crashes - Frequent updates and training webinars

Cons

There are a few cons I face from time to time - Virtually no editing option for video captures - Cannot edit or crop an imported GIF - No image size compression option

### "Amazing screencapturing tool"

April 24, 2026

5.0

Best screencapturing app out there. Beats any native screencapturing tool for Windows or macOS. The cost for the tool is relevative low for how much function you're getting. I use it everyday and it just works and the editor is so useful and feature rich.

Pros

Super easy to use and love the screen recording and screenshot functionality. It integrates right into your default computer printscreen button/action. The built in screenshot editor after every screenshot is great and allows you to quickly crop or add arrows/shapes/text. The app works smooth and quick. Works well with both Windows and macOS devices. The screen recording function is great as well for guides and instructional videos. It allows you to record audio and video as well. It's also a very low cost for what it provides.

Cons

Not a huge issue but the screencapture app is separate than the screencapture editor app. The two apps run together. Sometimes the Snagit editor doesn't automatically come up after you've taken your screenshot. Worst case, I've had to just uninstall and reinstall Snagit to get it working again. Its rare but sometimes does happen.

### "Recommended capturing tool"

June 13, 2025

4.0

I am a regular user of Snagit, and find it a very useful tool for capturing content for development of process documents, technical writing and elearning development. It is great how it links to Camtasia which really helps if you need a screen capture taken and added into video projects. I haven't utilised all the tools available, however what I have wanted to achieve so far with captures I have been able to do no problem.

Pros

Fantastic capturing tool for screen shots or even video clips. Has plenty of tools create meaningful and professional content. One key tool is ability to capture scrolling windows as an image. Able to create process documents directly within Snagit with their templates using captured images. Fairly easy to use software great functionality to suit so many needs. Great how it links to other TechSmith tools such as Camtasia. So you can capture a image with Snagit then send it to a open Camtasia project and drop right on your timeline.

Cons

Some little annoyances which could be better to further enhance UX. So if you add a something on your image, say a shape, you add and position the shape. But it doesn't remain selected and you need to re-select the shape to further edit i.e. colour. Be great if you could integrate into MS Teams on slightly older version of Snagit.

### "SnagIt - Worthy Screen Capture Application"

Pros

Snagit is user-friendly, especially for beginners. The ability to quickly capture, edit, and share content is a game-changer for productivity, especially for creating tutorials, documentation, or presentations.

Pros

Cons

While Snagit includes basic video editing tools, it lacks advanced features. Additionally, users must pay for major version upgrades if they want to access new features.

December 23, 2024

Pros

Very easy to use and has some great features for capturing, editing and sharing screenshots or video.

Cons

The Windows snipping tool is usually all I need, so my only negative on Snagit is that I don't always find it's extra features necessary. But it is a great option if the snipping tool is insufficient.

### "Using Snag-It for Travel Itineraries"

May 3, 2024

5.0

I have used Snag-It for many years before I retired. In work, I used it to document the software that I was proposing to write OR to document problems that occur in the software after it was written. It was a good tool to use to document a procedure to follow because I could capture a picture of relevant screens and comment on what happened or was happening. I also used it to prepare user manuals for the software that I wrote. Now in retirement, I use it primarily for travel itineraries.

Pros

Ability to capture screens of information from the Internet. Although I use it for my travel itineraries, it has also come in handy when I want to document a procedure to follow for some task such as telling someone how to activate/deactivate my house alarm system (I can illustrate with pictures and words)

Cons

I do not have any negative comments about it. I like it.

### "Full featured but slow."

April 23, 2024

4.0

Pros

Huge range of features such as drawing and text tools that are easy to use.

Cons

It is slow. Takes a few seconds to start a capture, then the capture tool is slow and jerky while trying to capture screens. During a recent vendor-provided training session Snagit could not keep up with grabbing screen shots and I had to resort to using the snipping tool as it works almost instantly. Too bad, because Snagit has tons of useful features for annotating images.

### "Best screen capture on the market"

May 1, 2024

5.0

Overall I like it but the filename issue and the save folder issue is just sloppy programming and is affecting my overall satisfaction with the product.

Pros

Snagit is easy to use and can create quick mock-ups or design and conceptual layouts - or do make notes for our developers / support teams on issues related to our online site or technology. We use it every day and it's a critical part of our workflow.

Cons

While there have been numerous enhancements, I keep hoping that Techsmith will fix two blatant UI issues / bug but after a long time of waiting (more than a year) it hasn't and it drives me crazy. The first is that Snagit does NOT remember where I have JUST opened the file to edit. So I often blindly save the file back only to discover that it has been saved into a completely different folder. This should be simple. If I have JUST opened an image from folder "X", then surely I want the new image I have just worked on also saved into folder "X"?? The second issue is that if you are saving the image in Snagit (as a JPEG as an example) , it will ALWAYS add an extra extension int he name. So, if you select the file to be ".jpg" (even if you delete everything in the filename field) it will make the file type to be ".jpg.jpg" so you always have to correct it!!

### "Absolutely love Snagit!"

April 19, 2024

3.0

Overall, I'm still in love with the product and if a company I work for won't expense it, I pay for it myself. That's how much I rely on Snagit every day. Whether it's to take a video of a new feature working perfectly to taking a screenshot of my developer's code and pinpointing the \`blame\`, it's the quickest and easiest platform you could ever use. Juts buy it and go about your day. You won't regret it.

Pros

I've been a user for over 10 years. I wouldn't use another program, no matter the cost or no cost. I love being able to quickly create mock-ups, screenshots, and videos for my profession. I'm in development. So being able to quickly show my team where something went wrong or a copy issue, it's invaluable.

Cons

There are some things lacking. While taking videos, there aren't a lot of things you were able to do until just recently. I think Snagit has been evolving for a long time and they should be further in the development of the product overall. The Snagit library seems to get confused from time to time too. After a restart, all my captures will be in different order. The rolling capture sometimes doesn't want to work. So there are bugs that do need to be addressed.

### "Quality program has made my job easier"

May 4, 2023

5.0

I have a software company and am a writer. I use it to create how-to video and handouts for customer training and support. I also use it to communicate with graphic designers and tech support for other apps. I've been a constant user for well over 10 years. I also have their other software Camtasia and the two work seamlessly.

Pros

I've been using Snagit for at least 10 years and am on the inexpensive annual maintenance plan where I get all updates and latest version. Note: not a monthly subscription but an annual fee. It's a bargain. I use it for customer support, training, and providing feedback to other software vendors. The captures are high quality and easy to retrieve, edit, share. It's one of my constantly used apps.

Cons

I'd like a little more options for adding arrows, call-outs, and text post-capture. What they have is functional and easy to use. I'd just like to easily customize things for personal preference. For it's basic intended use of screen capture it's everything I need.

Reason for choosing Snagit

WAY more features and ease of use

I was exposed to Snagit via my work environment but found myself quickly purchasing it for my personal use. I cannot stress enough that this tool is essential to my day-to-day life.

Pros

It is so easy to take and edit screenshots with snagit. I would never use another tool for this sort of work. I love how the library makes it easy for me to go back in time and look at previous snapshots.

Cons

Pros

### "Snagit is a great tool for creating content in video and with screen captures. Simple and easy."

September 8, 2022

5.0

I saved money on subscription service for Image editing software, improved on process time with the video editing and screen capture software. We use Snagit to make clear explanations and transfer knowledge to employees and clients, about our trainings. Internally we stopped using other software tools, for those tasks. Saving us money and time, since those tools (Photoshop and OBS Studio) had a longer learning curve.

Pros

The most important aspect is the screen capture capabilities. Its usefulness and easy straight forward process. We choose this software a few years ago, since it gives us 3 tools in one, in a very positive way. The screen capture tool, with different parameters, the video creating option for quick videos and trainings, plus the hidden secret, is the GREAT Snagit Editor. Where you can edit video in a simple, not techy way, for most of us, we don't have the time nor knowledge to manage full video editing software, so this tools saves us money, because we don't had to hire a video editor, since most of them are simple direct video content. Second, we no longer buy a full suite of image editing, because the Snagit Editor gives us, 80% or more of the tools we need for our image editing needs. Again its simple to learn and master and is very capable. Why buy a software or worst buy a subscription to a video editing or image editing software if we can buy one time a great tool like Snagit. If you want more power or features, use Camtasia, but for small companies or simple, fast and professional looking videos, images and screen captures, I recommend Snagit, no one else.

Cons

I am very happy with Snagit. When it opens too slow, I talked to the support team and helped me out, with my PC configuration. So, it's all good now.

5.0

I have used Snaggit since it was available via mailed cd. I have not seen a tool that does as much and as easily as Snaggit. I always recommend Snaggit to my customers and colleagues and have converted many to using the software.

Pros

I absolutely love how easy it is to capture specific images from a product I'm debugging. I use the delay and mouse capture to show drop down menu options that would otherwise be impossible to capture for my client. The highlight tool is essential for showing exactly what I am seeing and where to find it.

Cons

I honestly cannot think of a con to using Snagit. I use it so much in business and personal that I don't think I can go without this valuable software.
