It serves my purpose, but I feel like in the long-term, it's not the most efficient tool if I need to make changes to those mockups over time. But I do like the quick and easy video recording functionality too. Pros It's an affordable, lightweight, and easy-to-use tool to manipulate images. I use this for creating super fast mockups of small changes to web pages that I want to run an A/B test on. I also use it to record videos for my developers when I feel like I can explain myself better in a video than a written message. Cons There's no version history. Once I save an image, it's locked down. So if I want to change something later, I need to overwrite the most recent version. And the fonts are outdated and limited. Most of the time, I can't match the fonts that are on a webpage. Review Source MD Mark D. Pros I can "snag" information or images from a webpage or other documents and send to someone else without sending the irrelevant parts of the webpage or document. Cons I wish that it had the ability to scroll down in order to include things further down that are not shown on the screen rather than being limited to just the current screen view. The recording feature is generally pretty user friendly, but I do not like that you cannot merge two separate videos. Pros I am a supervisor and need to teach and educate my staff on a daily basis. When I am explaining something it makes it so easy to take a quick snag of something to show them the visual of what I am talking about. Additionally I have had to make training videos and this platform makes that easy to do. Cons I do not like that you cannot merge two videos together. You need to go through the entire recording. This makes them more professional looking for use on websites etc. I also like the ability to capture screen recordings with voiceover. Cons I wish it were easy to edit video captures - at the moment it looks like you have to download their sister program, Camtasia. I'd just like to be able to use a blur tool in videos that I create (just short GIFs) to hide sensitive information but it doesn't seem like this is possible. Review Source JR John R. Cons With the screenshots, you are not able to increase the size of the picture, there is also a lag time when initiating screenshots and video. It took some getting used to via trial and error, but overall, it has been handy. Pros Intuitive, simple, and very easy to use. Snagit has a very secure and easy-to-use interface that allows me to capture screen images easily, and its library of call-out boxes makes it easy to highlight items. Cons While the tool is simple to use, it has limitations in what it can do, and not everything is intuitive. For example, it can capture an entire website via a scrolling screen grab, but that takes a bit of thinking to accomplish, and the Reference/How To material does not describe all of its capabilities. Pros I love the ease of use for Snagit. The screenshot tool is very easy to set up and then use. Once the picture is taken, the image editing tools available, such as color changing, blurring, text, and shapes, makes creating training content really fast and simple. Cons There are very few cons to SnagIt. Sometimes I struggle with getting the pixels colored exactly as they should, but that's less of a tool thing and more of a skill thing. Cons It is difficult to understand why it seems impossible to link capture results automatically to Adobe Photoshop - Photoshop is clearly preferable to SnagIt Editor as an image editor. Initiating a screenshot is quite simple, and very effective to boot. I like the auto feature that ensures software is up to date. Cons I’d only say I’d like to see come kind of better auto-filen naming mechanism in place when taking multiple screenshots for a personal project, etc. Other than that, there’s nothing really negative about this software. I've used it at several jobs. It's really easy to use and super convenient. It's my favorite screen capture software. Pros I absolutely love Snagit. It creates high resolution screen captures that I can easily copy and paste from anywhere to anywhere or anyone. I use it every day or just about everyday. Cons Just the scrolling window capture. It rarely ever worked correctly. Lately i have the option to use it, but it doesn't work at all. It's only one feature, but it was a great safety when I just filled out a long form and I wanted to save my answers before submitting in case things didn't submit correctly. Pros the ability to install and use quickly is the best The simpleness and power of the features provided for screen capture, recording, video recording and even mocking up a new process is unbeatable, I have never used another tool that was this powerful, feature-rich and inexpensive at the same time. Cons There were cases where the program would freeze and then quit, but some of that had to do with my workstation. It does not provide the track recording similar to Camtasia, but it is intended to be a quick to publish short video. Pros Snagit is easy to use and can create quick mock-ups or design and conceptual layouts - or do make notes for our developers / support teams on issues related to our online site or technology. We use it every day and it's a critical part of our workflow. Cons While there have been numerous enhancements, I keep hoping that Techsmith will fix two blatant UI issues / bug but after a long time of waiting (more than a year) it hasn't and it drives me crazy. The first is that Snagit does NOT remember where I have JUST opened the file to edit. So I often blindly save the file back only to discover that it has been saved into a completely different folder. This should be simple. If I have JUST opened an image from folder "X", then surely I want the new image I have just worked on also saved into folder "X"?? The second issue is that if you are saving the image in Snagit (as a JPEG as an example) , it will ALWAYS add an extra extension int he name. So, if you select the file to be ".jpg" (even if you delete everything in the filename field) it will make the file type to be ".jpg.jpg" so you always have to correct it!!
