I'm waiting for the introduction of AI into the application. :D Pros I've been using Snagit for many years and it is now a main tool for capturing screen images and videos. My favorite functionality is panoramic screen capturing and now the scrolling capture functionality. It's awesome! Cons Every once and a while I'll have an issue with capturing. I recently had an issue that prevented me from doing panoramic/scrolling captures. Somehow my settings changed and I had to reset permissions to fix it. All good now. Review Source AV Anthony V. This is what sets the software apart from the competition. I use this daily and it's so easy to revisit old screenshots. This in combination with tagging them is a time saver. I have been using the software since more than 10 years now - it was always provided by the company. I recently switched jobs, they do not offer any screenshot software hence I purchased it myself. Worth every penny. Cons In my experience there is nothing that I do not like about the software. SOme might say it's a mere screenshot software - and you can do that with built in software in the OS. Pros It's easy to use, I can rely on it doing what I need, and the price point is fantastic. Cons There's not a lot to dislike with the way I use it, so no complaints here. UX Designer Design Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Still the best screen capture tool on the market" April 19, 2024 5.0 After using Snagit in work environments I found I relied on it so heavily that I purchased a license for my own home use, and have been using it daily for years with very few complaints. Even with the many competing tools now available, and the built-in screen capture features of macOS, I have found that they don't quite do everything that I need, and I just can't live without SnagIt. Pros It works. It does everything I need, and some things that no other competitor tools seem to be able to do, such as: captures the cursor, freezes the screen while you're selecting the region, captures the current state of the screen including hover and focus states, captures scrolling regions and full webpages. You can also grab the text from an image - which was a very innovative feature when first released. The annotation tools and options are easy to use. And it also works great for video screen recordings and animated gifs. Cons It's a bit costly - but it's also not a monthly subscription service, so it's not unreasonable. I don't love that the images use a custom file type and extension (".snagx") - but it's easy to export or simply copy and paste into other files or programs. If it were just a little less expensive, we could justify it be automatically added to dozens of our other employee to use. Pros It is quick and easy to take screenshots and to mark-up and make labels. Cons Please add this one function, and your product would be amazing... I know how to tag each image, and how to search for pictures with those tags. I wish your product could filter and find all the images that dont have a label, so I know which images are missing labels so then I can tag it. I have used this for years and it just keeps getting better. It is not overally expensive at all and even the updates are reasonable. Pros Ease of use and the features are what keep me coming back to update. I love the clipboard feature and file send to other apps. Shortcut keys are amazing as well. I dont have to save as it is always in my library. Precision related to screen capture is on point. Cons For me not a lot of cons. I think the ability to mass delete library contents would be great. As I have to coordinate development teams and test the releases it is so easy to take a screenshots, annotate on it and then open an issue or a feature request with our internal tools. The magnifier with crosshairs and pixel grid that appears when you're selecting an area helps with capturing precise areas. Cons In the latest version, pressing Ctrl + A prioritizes selecting all recent captures rather than the entire area of the capture currently being edited. Some people don't need the advanced functionality offered by Snagit and will do okay with a free and open-source capture tool. But as soon as they need more than free and open-source can give them, they should migrate to Snagit. Pros Biggest pro is that Snagit is easy to use without sacrificing quality. You can get great capture with almost no effort at all and a minimum amount of brainpower. Options are easy to understand and won't send you to documentation in order to decipher them. I also appreciate the depth of annotation options available right at the moment you get an image capture. It's more than enough for simple image sharing amongst teams, but even someone like an e-learning designer or technical writer will find value in it because they can annotate without having to go to a separate image editing program. Cons Snagit's UI is split across two different elements -- a tiny rectangular widget and a larger, full-screen window. This can be confusing to some users, especially those who aren't already familiar with the idea. Also, because Snagit is responsive and customizable, it's possible to start a capture and then realize your settings are wrong because you previously changed them. When "Recent" bar at bottom is displayed, it's too easy to accidentally use CTRL-A and delete all of it's content...please present a confirmation dialog box. You need to add multi-select of objects using standard windows hot keys so you can act on them as a collection (particularly alignment, deletion, selection, etc) Add a grid lines option.
