Overall, Compulink has been a good experience for our practice. It is very easy to train new team members. You can quickly learn how to move around in the system.

Pros

Compulink does a great job of constantly improving their software. The newer updates make the screens much cleaner and save us a lot of unnecessary clicks. We also really appreciate the custom reporting tools, which make it easy to pull the exact data we need when a standard report doesn't cut it. Having everything in one place—where you can jump straight from the patient's exam to the eyewear section—is incredibly convenient. One of the biggest standouts is the support team. It is a huge plus to speak with experienced, long-term staff who actually know the system inside and out, rather than getting passed to someone with limited training. Whenever bugs or issues pop up, they handle them quickly. It is also great to see them actively growing and improving their patient management features.

Cons

If you want to tie a resource(like an OCT or Visual Field) to a doctors schedule, its not setup to easily do this for the patient representative.

Alternatives considered

Reasons for choosing Compulink

Compulink was chosen because everything was contained in one package. You could go from the exam bag to optical purchases all in the same application. Some of the products were still in their developmental stage and we would have lost so much functionality that it was not feasible to change

Overall, my experience with Compulink has been a journey of functional excellence balanced by technical demands. On the clinical side, it’s a powerhouse; the ability to customize the interface to my specific specialty is a breath of fresh air compared to "one-size-fits-all" platforms. The OneTab™ documentation and the seamless integration between the EHR and Practice Management have noticeably streamlined our patient flow, allowing us to handle everything from complex exams to retail billing within a single, unified database. When the system is dialed in, it feels like a precision tool that truly understands the nuances of my daily workflow. However, that power comes with a significant "complexity tax." The software isn't exactly intuitive out of the box, and the learning curve for new staff can be steep and unforgiving. While I love the customization, getting the system "just right" required a massive upfront investment of time and effort. I’ve also found that updates can be a double-edged sword—bringing necessary features but occasionally introducing frustrating glitches that disrupt our rhythm. In short, Compulink is an indispensable asset for any practice that demands total control over its data, provided you have the patience and technical appetite to maintain such a sophisticated engine.

Pros

1\. Extreme Customization (The "Have It Your Way" Factor) The most praised feature of Compulink is its flexibility. Unlike "cookie-cutter" EHRs that force you into a specific workflow, Compulink allows you to: Modify layouts: You can literally drag and drop elements of the patient chart to match how you actually talk to patients. Build specialty screens: Whether it’s sports medicine or optical retail, you can remove unnecessary fields (like weight or BMI) to keep documentation clean and relevant. 2. The "One-Screen" Documentation Strategy Compulink’s OneTab™ layout is a game-changer for clinic efficiency. Everything at a glance: Nurses and technicians can often complete 90% of their documentation on a single screen without clicking through endless tabs. Favorites & Presets: Users love the ability to set up "Favorites" for common diagnoses or treatments, which reduces charting time to under three minutes for many routine visits. 3. Seamless Practice Management & Optical Integration For practices with a retail component (like Optometry), Compulink is a "one-stop shop." Inventory & Billing: It handles the clinical exam, the glasses/contacts order, and the insurance claim in one fluid motion. Single Database: Because the EHR and Practice Management (PM) share one database, there is no "lag" or "syncing error" between the front desk and the back office. 4. AI-Driven Efficiency The 2026 versions of Compulink have leaned heavily into SMART Workflow® and AI features: Automated Status Tracking: The system automatically identifies which room a patient is in and what the next step is, reducing "dead time" in the hallway. Coding Assistance: The built-in "Standard of Care" engine helps suggest codes based on your documentation, which helps maximize reimbursement while staying compliant. 5. Stellar Support & Stable Pricing While software glitches are a reality for any platform, Compulink’s customer service consistently receives high marks. Quick Response: Users report that technical support is knowledgeable and easy to reach by phone. Predictable Costs: In an era of "subscription creep," users appreciate Compulink’s relatively stable and transparent invoicing.

Cons

1\. The Steep Learning CurveCompulink is not a "plug-and-play" system. New users often find the interface overwhelming because there are so many buttons, tabs, and options. Training Intensity: It takes significant time for staff to become proficient. Many practices report that the initial training period feels too short for the amount of information they need to absorb. Non-Intuitive Navigation: Some tasks that should be simple (like finding a specific patient ledger or modifying a table) require navigating through multiple layers of menus that don't always follow modern "web-standard" design logic.2. "Update Anxiety" & GlitchesBecause the software is frequently updated to keep up with medical regulations, users often deal with "version instability." The "Fix One, Break Two" Cycle: It is a common complaint that a new update will fix a minor bug but inadvertently cause a glitch in a completely different part of the system, such as the scheduler or the prescription module.Workflow Disruption: Updates can sometimes reset custom settings or change the location of icons, forcing the staff to relearn their "muscle memory" workflows.

Compulink does a little bit of everything but it mainly stores electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software. They cater to over 30 medical specialties.

Pros

I love the optical practice, patient management, and access and availability. There are no bugs and issues. The customer support and security makes the software value for money.

Cons

I didn’t have any dislikes about Compulink. It’s a number one product in my book and I only have positive things to say about it.

It has been the best optical ehr I have worked with so far. More informative reports, easy to navigate as well as having all of your exams in one spot and not having to go to an old exam to review is amazing

Pros

This ehr is the first I have used that is not only easy to navigate but has all of the reports (and then some) that I could ask for.

Compulink has been the right choice for me and I am glad that I chose it. They did their best to display everything you need to see on the same page to minimize navigation. They are super responsive and willing to help you, even with out-of-the-box questions.

Pros

I really appreciated the Compulink team and how quickly they respond to questions. They are also very willing to help me customize my provider and patient experiences as desired. I own a sports medicine and eating disorder clinic, so they removed weight as a required variable from many of the presets, as well as removing some of the automated patient education when I found it triggering for my patients. They helped me customize my charting environment so that I can complete documentation faster. I am able to use the same EMR for myself (sports/family medicine), my PT, my chiropractor, and will be able to use it for therapist/dietician as well.

Cons

Adding diagnoses sometimes takes a little more effort than I am used to with Epic, but it also gets easier the more you use the system. Throughout my career, I have used Epic, Cerner, and Meditech, with Epic being my clear favorite. As a small private practice, Epic was cost-prohibitive, but I still like Compulink better than Cerner and much more than Meditech.

Reasons for choosing Compulink

I chose this for ortho/sports-specific software/templates and the ability to have all my practitioners use the same software. My main concern at the time was the ability to see other institutions' records in my state, but that was solved with UHIN.

Pros

Product gets easier to use as you do more and more. There was a lot up from to get the setup going.

Cons

There were some parts that we needed to get added to the documentation side and they are working on that now.

Compulink is very easy to work with as a company, their customer service is excellent and I love the contact through the software for a call back if I have an issue. This feature is helpful so you are not waiting on hold to talk to someone. Just send in a request for a call and usually within 10 min they are calling you. Love this!

Pros

I love how easy Compulink is to navagate around in. Searching for patients is a breeze, tabs at top for every part of patient chart. Drop down selection menus for everything. Customizable tables and scheduler. Love the system!

Cons

There are parts of the software that we are not utilizing that I would like to use but programming the data into the software to use it seems over my head hard. We are an Optometry practice and do not use the ordering sections of the software therefor price calulations and insurance billing can not be used either.

Reasons for choosing Compulink

Ease of navagation within the software.
