### "Breath of fresh air for video project creation."

May 28, 2026

5.0

Great value for money, fantastic choice for creating videos with and it is renown for being the industry standard for colour grading.

Pros

No other post-production suite comes close in terms of listening their customers and making features that are benefitting them the same way Blackmagic Design have done with Davinci Resolve.

Cons

Coming from Adobe, it can be a bit of a learning curve, but the value you're getting from it is hard to say anything negative about it. Plus the industry is still pretty heavy with Adobe so it can be tricky to work with edits that are being sent to other editors apart from sending them XMLs.

### "An amazing creative visual tool."

September 27, 2025

5.0

Amazing. Easy to use. Plenty of screen space to utilize even on the iPad, very well designed. I like the fact that it is exact,y the same product for every device. All the functions are there.

Pros

Very well put together program. I use it often for my clients. Video editing on my iPad or laptop is seamless. The fact that the free version is still very powerful in comparison paid products including. The color grading tab is filled with lots of useful nodes, and fusion is cool for all the effects needed if you like nodes this the one. Projects are easy to see and create and the system is very secure. I haven’t noticed any glitching. Well written program. High performance and speed, I didn’t even experience any lag. I haven’t tried the customer service due to how stable the program is.

Cons

I wish you didn’t have to buy the software separate for iPad and laptop. There could be some new intuitive tools as far as UI design.

### "Davinci Resolve Editing"

October 20, 2023

2.0

Frustrating. This was an opportunity for DaVinci to do something special by combining Editing with heavy VFX, Color Grading, and Audio Mixing in the same comprehensive package.

Pros

It’s either free or inexpensive depending on which version you use. If you buy, It’s a one time purchase, not using the “subscription model,” which I feel is exploitive. The ability to do color grading, VFX, and sound mixing in the same program is convenient, but not central to editing.

Cons

The basic editing functions, which should be very simple and intuitive, are unnecessarily convoluted and user hostile. Too many “modes” and keystrokes. A million things must be selected or de-selected to perform the most simple of functions. It really seems that either the editors who helped develop this program were amateurs, or ignored by programmers.

Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve

To give it a shot. I may still use it for home movies, or maybe cutting a sizzle reel or two, but for a full on professional show, it’s not a realistic candidate.

I'm very happy with the overall experience. I can see a clear improvement in my workflow and my work.

Pros

The flexibility in its colour grading through node base editing. Their new AI features making it easier to mask moving objects.

Cons

The Fusion tab is pretty intimidating coming from layer-based editing. There's definitely a learning curve.

### "The Video Editing Software I Recommend to Everyone..."

July 18, 2025

5.0

If I had known about DaVinci Resolve before I purchased a bundle of video editing software during COVID, I probably could have saved myself some money and headaches. Overall, DR is a remarkably well-stocked video editing and production tool with walls of features (even in its free version, which I use). The platform is stable and handles most production tasks I'd need for developing lecture videos, YouTube gaming and commentary videos, and video podcasts. It's the software I now recommend to everyone who asks.

Pros

1) It operates on multiple levels, making it possible to learn basic video editing relatively quickly while leaving room for more advanced editing down the line. 2) It is a robust tool for project creation. The free version alone comes stock with more features than I could possibly use for my use cases. Additionally, while I haven't used them yet, there is a decent library of third party plugins that add more functionality and options for projects. 3) The DR community is extensive enough that there are enough tutorials for most common use cases of the platform that you can get a walkthrough of even its most advanced features. BMD also has a community forum and product support, though I have only used the former for seeking solutions. 4) A major bonus: the free version is a formidable piece of software on its own with many of the same performance possibilities as its paid sibling. While they could justify charging something for this, I think it benefits BMD to have a complete piece of software to ease in new users before they pay hundreds for the full service model. I prefer this model for software.

Cons

1) If you want to do anything more complicated than simple or intermediate video editing, there is as learning curve. In fairness, this is to be expected, but it does make some of the more advanced features a bit daunting to approach. The workaround: there is probably a tutorial for the thing you want to do on YouTube. 2) Customizing the interface is, for me, not as intuitive (or, in some cases, possible) as I'd like. I've learned to work around it, though. 3) This is a minor quibble. The jump from DR to DR Studio (the paid version) is $295. It would be nice if there was an intermediate level for those wanting some of the more advanced features (such as captioning) but not the full suite that is best suited for film production.

I ran into repeated issues with the interface and functions of MAGIX Video Pro to the point that I realize I would be better off moving to another platform. MVP worked for me when I was first starting to edit video, but once I needed a more streamlined approach and more features, I had no choice but to move on.

### "The top video editing software"

July 3, 2025

5.0

Overall, my experience with DiVinci Resolve has been positive and has enabled me to create videos every week with ease. There is a reason people are switching to it: it's easy to use, powerful, and cost-effective.

Pros

I have used multiple video editing software programs, and none have come close to the ease of use and power of DiVinci Resolve. I switched from Final Cut Pro due to the cost and because I needed something that works on both Windows and Apple Computers. This does it. I am very happy with this program.

Cons

Even though I love this program, I wish their sound editing were a little easier to use. This could be due to a lack of training in that area, but it's not as intuitive as I would like.

### "So easy, even newbies can edit and color."

April 15, 2025

5.0

I have been a video maker for years. Among my professions I also teach subjects related to audiovisual. The possibility of easily editing and having an easy view of the work makes it flexible. Even beginners learn. Working hours on this system I have also developed an easy dialogue between editing and color

Pros

Finally color correction and editing in a single pro option. Unlike competitors, the package here is really complete and easy to manage.

Cons

I would like to have a better system for editing audio. The audio section could also be implemented with a dedicated sound archive

### "Complicated, Powerful Editing Software"

March 13, 2025

4.0

DaVinci Resolve is a fantastic editing tool for anyone looking for a free solution. You won't have all of the features, but you'll have enough. The color correction tools are fantastic as well. However, it's a pretty complicated software and takes a while to get used to if you're used to Premiere.

Pros

It's free, has great editing capabilities, and the color correction is way better than Adobe's.

Cons

It's pretty complicated in some parts and requires a steep learning curve. I've also ran into glitches.

### "DaVinci Resolve : Professional tools at zero cost "

December 29, 2024

5.0

Davinci was my first ever video editing software in my laptop. In the beginning i struggled a bit to understand and learn the way editing worked in DaVinci but overall for a free software it provides features that no other video editing softwares give out. My most favorite part is where i can edit, enhance audio on the way I want which is a plus point since audio is a important part of my work

Pros

It provides all the necessary options to help a user make their video look as professional as possible and DaVinci is a free video editing software that not only allows professional video editing features , you can also enhance or play around with audio editing.

Cons

Some of the transitions and effects that are basic are in the paid section .

Switched from

[Clipchamp](https://www.capterra.com/p/202357/Clipchamp/)

Clipchamp was a really narrow ranged video editor , i couldn't add transition, effects nor edit my videos professionally. Clipchamp has watermark and other restrictions that just is unacceptable. My projects need intense audio editing with few VFX included and Clipchamp had no options for any of this

Although a little intimidating at first I found Davinci Resolve to be the best and most powerful video editor I have ever used. With all of it's capabilities I was my video projects turned out better than I ever expected.

Pros

The fact that it is free but functions like most professional software is great. Lots of Youtube videos out there to allow for easy learning.

Cons

### "The industry standard in color grading is now a superb editor too!"

November 2, 2023

5.0

Resolve is free, with very few limitations. Sink that in: you can get a very-modern, timely-updated, fully featured video workstation for free. Pros don't often use free software, mostly because it lacks support: BMD is definitely the counter to these with Resolve. The paid-version allows for greater resolutions and more customization.

Pros

We've come a long way since the early Resolve versions. So many tools added release after release (and they also come often), it is now a full fledged one-stop video solution. Node canvas is very easy to work with. Clip management is intuitive and fast. BMD's vision is clear: they create the best editor they can to work with their own hardware, but unlike others they make it as easy to work with BMD-camera captured footage than it is with other formats. All this for a very, very cheap price and the option to actually own the software rather than renting (wink wink Adobe?)

Cons

Resolve is a professional video workstation, and like every software of this caliber the learning curve can be a bit steep for newcomers; it takes time and practice to really master it. You want pro results? You better get studying!

Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve

First and foremost we chose Resolve for its incredibly powerful color grading features. But since it became a very good editor too, we're slowly moving away from other solutions. There are very few things you can fault Resolve at, but even then what can we complain about?

### "Creative Alliance Review"

July 6, 2023

5.0

We have been using Resolve since past 2 years and we find this is the ultimate software for video editing and post processing. Motion tracking is one of the key features that we like in this software.

Pros

We here at Creative Alliance use Davinci Resolve daily to edit our videos. We produce daily videos in our multiple YouTube Channels like REACTION RETREAT and occasionally in our another channel CREATIVE ALLIANCE MUSIC. Editing videos have never been this fun and wide variety of features make this software a must have!

Cons

### "The Best Video Software out there"

January 13, 2023

5.0

I have used Premiere and FinalCut extensively and have landed on DaVinci Resolve as the best option. It has all the features I need for any project without slowing me down with clunky UI and old style workflows. So it’s really the best of both worlds and is only getting better!

Pros

You cannot beat the functionality and price of this software! It does everything you could need or want without having to purchase a bunch of plug-ins and the base version is free and the full software is only $200!

Cons

There is a lot to it. It’s basically 6 pieces of software bundled together into 1 application but it still works really well. It does take some practice to learn the many features, but it still is pretty user friendly.

### "A pro video editor available for all"

November 19, 2024

5.0

A pro video editor that have a free version that can cover most individuals' needs without the need to buy the paid version. There are a lot of functions available in the free version and it doesn't feel like a big demo, it really looks like they just made the basic functions available for someone who just want to edit some videos with his family and the more advanced features that doesn't concern everyone, are reserved for the paid version. The app is fast and responsive even in low end hardware for 1080p that I use, I do believe there are a couple of things in the UI/UX that feel weird but seems like "this is how the pro video people are used to" so yeah I don't know how to feel about it. I mean if the people who pay you require the UI to be that weird, who am I to say "make it simple for me" eh? All in all there are a lot of tutorials that can help you get the results you want and the one off license system is a blessing those days. I hate subscription models and the cost for the paid version is not going to bankrupt you.

Pros

Even on the free version it is a very powerful video editor, and the paid version is not asking anything extraordinary. Also no Subscription is always a plus.

Cons

Learning curve is a bit step, at least there are a lot of tutorials out there to teach you what you need.

Pros

That you can use it for free and it has everything that you would need. Why pay a subscription when this is free!!!! I have thought about paying for the program but have not need to because all the tools that I need are there for free. When I need the paid tools I would be happy to pay the one time fee.

### "Davinci Resolve the complete and efficient video editing software"

February 15, 2023

5.0

Pros

I find Davinci Resolve to be a very comprehensive and free software for video post-production. It offers an intuitive user interface and ease of use that allows for editing, color grading, special effects and audio post-production tasks. The color grading tools are particularly advanced and accurate, allowing for fine-tuning of colors. In addition, the software can process videos in 4K resolution and higher, with fast performance thanks to the use of the GPU for effects processing. Finally, it is available for Windows, Mac and Linux, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Cons

I found that Davinci Resolve has some drawbacks. For example, the learning curve is quite steep for beginners due to the complexity of its features. Also, it may require powerful computer hardware to work effectively, especially when handling large files or very high resolutions. Finally, some advanced features are only available in the paid version of the software, which can be expensive for some users.

### "The best software!"

June 29, 2022

5.0

I was using Newtek Speed edit for over 25 years (8 years after it was discontinued) because i could not find software to my liking and that was as easy to use as SpeedEdit. I have tried a couple of those out there and was not satisfied with the performance or workflow and i did not want to pay every year to use the software! Someone told me to try resolve, I downloaded the free version and ended up editing my next project on it. After that i was hooked! because SpeedEdit had been discontinued it was not accepting certain formats. Resolve took anything i put into it and let me know if the frame rates were different as i put them in timeline. If you are looking to upgrade your editing software resolve is where you should start - you will be hooked

Pros

How you can customize it to fit your workflow. The color grading is amazing. I am learning new things every day. The software allows you to produce amazing work. The cost is great i got the studio version and a control surface for under $400! no yearly subscription fees and free upgrades! No software out there is doing this! You can even get the basic version for free to work with it to see if you like it.

Cons

I have not found any yet. I have worked with it over six months and have had no problems that were not solved by a visit to You Tube

### "New Kid on the block"

July 15, 2021

5.0

The best feature about Davinci Resolve is its capabilities for collaboration in teams and also each team member have separate timelines.

Pros

Davinci Resolve might be a new kid on the block but it comes packed with a lot of tools all in one. Davinci Resolve comes packed with the best video editing module which is so easy to use but yet so powerful enough to compete with other editing suits like Adobe, Final Cut Pro. What even make it unique is the fact that it can also comes with sound, special effects and 3d editing capabilities. When comes to having the best suit in the industry it will then amount to the price and Davinci Resolve takes top award as it is very powerful and yet very cheap.

Cons

As they say, dynamites comes in small packages but Davinci Resolve when comes to resources it needs a very powerful system and best works with GPU processors which happens to be very expensive to buy. As much the suit it self its cheap to buy, but the others tools like control panels are also very expensive to buy.
