December 1, 2022 5.0 Overall, I am extremely happy with Davinci, especially considering it is a free software. Pros I have working knowledge of the common upper-end editing suites, and have extensive experience with Adobe Suite and Premiere. The transition to Davinci was relatively smooth. Because Davinci allows you to do so much within a single editing suite, there was a decent learning curve, but the tools and UI are customizable and relatively straightforward. Once you develop a workflow, it is smooth sailing. Cons Some things are a little too adjustable/customizable for my needs. Pros I've been using DaVinci Resolve since version 12 and it has steadily grown from just being the best colour grading package to arguably one of the top tier editing platforms. Add to this as fully spec'd audio editor and mixing solution that utilities all my pre-exiting VST plugins and the circle is squared. En mi caso, editando en 4K contenido, se nota bastante. Cons Empecé a editar con Premiere y se nota la diferencia, aunque tampoco demasiado, los menús sí son distintos y eso lía un poco, pero tienes la opción de usar los atajos del teclado de Adobe Premiere con un ajuste en Davinci Resolve. Pros Está claro que de todos los programas de edición de video con los que he trabajado, es el más completo y el que más posibilidades tiene a la hora de hacer todo tipo de montajes de video. Así que lo que más me gusta es que es el más profesional de los editores que conozco. Cons A mi parecer, y dado que no vengo de la rama de la fotografía y el video, es un programa que implica tener una formación y una experiencia en edición de mucho nivel. Por tanto, no lo recomendaría a alguien que realmente no tenga unos conocimientos previos, o que no disponga en su equipo de trabajo de altos conocimientos y experiencia en edición de video. Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve Lo elegí porque me hablaron muy bien de él, pero me costó unos meses poderlo manejar con cierta soltura. Hoy en díoa solo lo uso para trabajos muy profesionales de campañas y para hacer ciertos videos donde la calidad exigida es alta. Whether you're working with collaborators running Windows, Mac or Linux, you can easily sent your project across for multiple people to work on without need to transcode or convert the project files to a different format. On the other hand, you also have the ability to scale since the fully-functioned (almost) NLE is available for free, provided you have the hardware to run it. This eases the burden for first time editors who already have to deal with huge start up costs. Cons The lack of marketing for the software is probably the only thing missing. It is a great piece of software that not a lot of new editors are in the know of. But then again, it is an industry standard would be adopted by even small creators eventually. Pros Da Vinci Resolve is an excellent software for people that are not very into video development but want a nice editing tool for a quick presentation at work. On the one hand, It is not too complex and therefore anyone will learn how to use it in one afternoon by simply exploring the software and seeing online videos. On the other, it has a wide and simple set of tools that are more than enough to make the video you set up in your mind come to life. The split and merging tools work perfectly and the sound management tab is well equipped. You can add nice transitions and overlay different videos and soundtracks in the same frame. It really pops when it gets going. The learning curve especially for subs like fusion can be very steep, but regardless, it's an excellent product. Pros It really is a full feature app with every conceivable video editing tool. But it's also power hungry and crashed way to often if the system specifications are anything but perfect. Cons Crashes so often once conditions aren't ideal. Stability is a major issue with DaVinci resolve. Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve One time pricing and of course the free version which allows so much elbow room for all hit the most complex editing projects. Pros I was scared of making the transition at first but after using it for just a couple of hours I was hooked and there was no looking back. It was amazing how I didn't even have to watch any tutorial to be able to edit a video. Of course, with more ambitious projects I found myself having to look for extra information and the more I learned about the software the more I fell in love with it. Resolve seems to have an answer for every problem you'll come across in videomaking: syncing audio from different videos automatically, incredible possibilities when editing audio, etc. All of this in just one program. No need for additional software or anything. It's your studio in just one place. And last but not least: constant updates and improvement. The DaVinci team really listens to the users. I recommend this product to ANYONE that asks me about video editing, seriously, I tell everyone that even mentions video editing that this is the program to get. Cons honestly not much, there was one update that came along randomly where you couldn't right click the timeline anymore and click "split", which as any video editor knows, you need to do about 500 times every time you open any video project, had to google it, now you can only do it by pressing "ctrl+B", so that problem was solved in about 2 seconds, but it would have been nice after the update if they took like the main components that they changed and add a little tip box next to it "hey, this thing that you have to do all the time, you can't do it like you did anymore, this is the new way", I just got in there after the update and just couldn't start my project until some random guy online let me know why splitting clips didn't work anymore.Extremely specific, just giving something that I least liked just to give one, but as you can see, that's literally nothing, the product is fantastic. After using Premiere Pro for a decade, I'm enjoying editing editing. Pros Incredible speed and coloring. If you're a linear editing veteran, you'll adjust to the software fairly quickly. Also, being able to work through cutting, coloring, graphics, and sound design is within the program. Cons Old habits are hard to break. As I said, you'll adjust quickly to the software, but there are some functions (such as Fusion) that are difficult to pick up if you've been using Adobe After Effects for many years. It's not hard to use if you are used to similar software yet it's very powerful and full featured. Pros Having used other non linear editing software such as Final Cut and Adobe Premiere, it was easy to jump in and start editing with Davinci as the interface is pretty straightforward. It features different tabs for focus on various aspects of the editing process such as managing your media, color correction, special effects, audio, exporting and of course editing. Davinci Resolve comes in two basic versions... the free application and the paid Davinci Resolve Studio. Unlike most free software, there are no watermarks or other crippling limitations on the free to use version. If you are a hobbyist vs a professional, you can really do quite a bit with the nonpaid version. I opted to upgrade to Studio which does offer a fair amount of advanced features which at the time of this writing was a one time cost of $300. In contrast to Adobe's subscription service for their products, this is quite affordable for those that want to use professional package for a very reasonable price. The publisher, Blackmagic Design appears to make their editing software accessible at this price point due to generating most of their revenue from their high end cameras and editing consoles. Lastly, like most software, there is an abundance of instructional videos on YouTube from third party content creators on how to use Resolve which has been very helpful in ramping up my skillset quickly.
