It feels good to be running an affordable program outside of the Adobe ecosystem, which is available across the major platforms. Pros There are so many things to like about DaVinci Resolve. The free version is extremely well featured. It's available on Windows, Mac and Linux. It's got advanced audio editing and colour grading features built right into the program. It receives regular software updates. And above all its the kid on the block who seems to be innovating faster than anyone else at the moment. Cons It can definitely be buggy. It's not necessarily any worse than Adobe Premiere Pro though, which also runs into inexplicable crashes and errors from time to time. It also requires a pretty beefy PC to run smoothly. October 9, 2022 5.0 I used DaVinci Resolve to make videos for my clients. The experience can only be described as smooth and pleasing with all the features and tools that the software provides. Pros DaVinci Resolve provides numerous outstanding features that help you create professional videos. DaVinci Resolve can be your gateway to a professional career in filmmaking. You can add transitions to your videos as well as color grade your clips to make them more dramatic. Plus, it gives you the ability to edit and tweak your videos any way you want. Cons I can only complain about two things, the complexity of the interface which needs some getting used to; and some technical problems and bugs when it comes to rendering. Review Source Shubham V. I also use it for many times and it's worked. Pros It is very helpful to get great color into your videos. Their color grading feature is very good and impactful. I am using, it's free version & that's also a very good option to give color in your videos. Cons It's paid version is so expensive. Free version of DAVinci Resolve has not more feature to use it. February 17, 2022 5.0 I did have one problem which was not the fault of the software. I changed computers and went from 16GB RAM to 8GB RAM at which point the software doesn't work. So if you do have less than 16GB RAM don't bother trying this software as it will only lead to frustration. Pros This is the most complete and professional editing software I have used. It is far beyond HitFilm that I had been using at home for a while. In addition I had previously used Sony Vegas which I quite liked and had used Adobe Premiere Pro. Cons There is a learning curve with using this, as with any editing software. I found the learning curve less than for Adobe Premiere Pro. One thing to note is that you will soon or eventually want to add the elements that are paid, to do special effects. I don't begrudge this at all because the free version gives so much value. Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve I was using HitFilm Express prior to using this DaVinci Resolve. DaVinci was just a more professional and flexible software that felt a little more intuitive to use. Adobe keeps marking prices up and not making their products better. DaVinci gives you everything you need without robbing the bank, which is important for artists! Pros DaVinci Resolve is a free video editing software, and normally that means very limited features and not something a pro would want to use, but not this time! DaVinci offers pretty much every feature you could need: audio tools, color correction, etc, and all for free! Pretty easy to use if you've already used Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, too. I was able to learn the basics relatively easily. However, it will take a while to master the software. Pros What I liked most about this software is that it contains fully functioning and powerful features even for the free version. The Color Grading feature is also one of the best compared to similar video editing software. It has flexible editing capabilities and support a wide variety of file formats. Cons The software is not the most intuitive to learn. However, I was able to learn the basics fairly quickly through free resources online. The nodes view on the Fusion tab is less intuitive than other software that is layer based. However, it can be equally effective once you master the skill. The audio editing tool is less advanced and there are also fewer third-party plug-ins compared to other similar software. Pros I've been using Reaper's video editing tool for exporting my short sound design clips, but I was not happy with the quality. With Davinci Resolve, I was able to keep the quality at its best and the frame rates. It is super important for me to upload high quality sound design and music videos. The ability to drag and drop many effects, transitions and exporting with no stutter or clipping issues made my life easier. Cons It takes a bit time to navigate my way around the software to get used to it. But it gets easier the more you use it. Also, the workflow is quite fast and smooth. Pros I strongly believe that DaVinci Resolve is the best partially-free editing software out there for the following reasons: 1) It has many free features. 2) There is no watermark on the export of the video. 3) Nice environment to work and and edit your videos. 4) Cool transitions. 5) Supports many formats of materials. 6) It has a one-time payment to buy the full program and is quite cheap. 7) Easy to learn it and many more. Cons The only think that I liked the least about this program is that when you hover over some Pro features with your mouse, a window will pop-up that says that this is the limit of free version and you have to buy the full version so that you can access this feature. Gone are the days of switching between software for cutting, applying effects, color correction and mixing audio as Resolve does all of this even for advanced projects. Most importantly, all of these possibilities are available in the free version - with only the most advanced features (like rendering above 4K) being reserved for the paid version. This means that Resolve can take you from being a complete beginner to a professional before you'll feel like you need to pay - and by that time you'll most likely afford it. Cons The only major disappointment I've encountered was when I was trying Resolve on Linux and realizing that it lacked decoding support of the most widely used codecs such as H.264, probably because of licensing issues. Pros For someone who was new to video editing at the beginning of this year, I have to say it took many hours watching YouTube tutorials to fully understand Davinci Resolves features. It is a professional video editing software for FREE! I was fortunate to have started with Davinci Resolve, and since then have tried many other paid programs which I have since stopped using. From the media stage, cut stage, edit, color correct, and sound stages, it is very clear where you need to start and end to make an amazing video. I found that when using a green screen, this program was much more accurate than other paid ones in doing the color corrections. Cons Since I have a Dell Laptop, running Davinci Resolve definitely slowed things down. As it is an intense program, it requires the machine that goes along with that to keep your work flow moving along. I found that my laptop wasn't up to spec, but my husbands desktop was. Ideally, you would want more than 8 gb to run it smoothly.
