August 12, 2022 4.0 Pros A great amazing piece of software for free that I use to help edit the videos I use for the Developer advocate role that I am in. Forget Adobe Creative Cloud and switch to this for FREE! Cons A very steep learning curve with many many options, settings and things to change and fiddle around with. There is still so much I don’t know what it does. The UI can be very confusing to find what you need when your starting and learning. I still get lost from time to time trying to find what I need to do. DaVinci Resolve is by far the best tool I've found (free) to work one step ahead from others to do more complex and professional stuff and not just cut and trim video sections. I've learn to do color corrections, edit and equalize audio, import effects (video and audio) and a lot more. You need to give it a try and invest time to learn new ways to work different from other software. Pros It's really free for almost all features. Works really well also with old Macbook pro computers. Cons A lot of frequently updates. Some features (not so professional ones) cost money. Need a lot of time to understand to use certain features if you are familiar with simpler free editors. Reason for choosing DaVinci Resolve It's free. Powerfull. Complete Features. On the free version you lack a few features, but even on that version, in comparison to other things like Imovie or somethingm its night or day. A bit of a learning curve, given that there is so much to it, but worth the time it takes to learn it! Cons the steep learning curve. I dont think this is for mom and dad looking to get the movies off their phone, or anyone who doesnt have a little time to learn it. Switched from [iMovie](https://www.capterra.com/p/207187/iMovie/) Needed more than Imovie had to offer at the time Review Source cS carlo S. architect Construction Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "be a professional for free" June 1, 2021 4.0 i am an architect, but i do many videos for showing my projects, or some music videos, i play music as a hobby. resolve is a very professional software, when it come to editing the color, adding some effects, synchronizing many frames, it also includes music editing, and loads of other great tools. the interface is ok, user-friendly enough. some option can be hidden but i directly got used to them. resolve can also be very practical in the way it manages the video parts that you are adding to the timeline, they are easy to manipulates, and to replace keeping the same effects and editing. those are some minor tips that makes lot of difference! what it lacks: as an architect, sometimes i need to draw some lines, or add a colored frame to my animations, and those are not directly doable. it end up adding many layers, and switching between them is annoying for editing. so yes, download davinci resolve, try it, because i am sure that whatever you are working or studying, animation is great way to impress and sell ideas to the client. using it in dual screen is very recommended! Pros this software is free, so i don't see any reason not giving it a try. open YouTube, and you'll get tons of one minute tutorials for this software. I learned this software by my self. Cons to work on this software, you need a good pc, it is understandable, but it limits the accessibility to many that doesn't have the adequate hardware. another con is that some important tools are not available, it it made my work slow and tricky. Its intuitive and great for video editing and color grading. Also you can download it for free and you dont can do many things with the free version. Cons Sometimes when i start the software it closes because it changes the setting to gpu to cpu but i only happened two times in 6 months . Not only is it extremely user friendly but it also has four programs built in one. You can edit, do sound design, add VFX, and do industry standard color correction for your projects. It is very easy to use and super reliable. The free version of the software is very good and would recommend 100%. Cons DaVinci Resolve as an editing software is really user friendly, but the other softwares such as sound design, VFX and Color correction are a bit more complicated to use, specially color correction as it was primarily used for that. You should ditch DaVinci whenever you can. Pros The things that I really like about a good software is their friendliness towards the user (even if you dont edit so much) DaVinci Resolve, provides a really easy to use interface to edit content, from simple productions to large scale. Also you can use the software for free and still make use of the most of its capabilities. Cons Unfortunately even if its a good option for new editors, DaVinci hides its best potential behind the paywall of its "payement features" Also there are other softwares in the market that do a better job; like Final Cut or Adobe Premiere. Campaign Manager Non-Profit Organization Management Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Not the best for Multi-Camera" August 22, 2021 4.0 Pros As an industry-leading colour grading software, DaVinci Resolve is at the top of the list for our team to colour grade all our work once the EDLs have been imported from Premiere Pro. It is much easier to work with nodes when it comes to colour as opposed to Adobe's layer-based workflow. Cons For multi-camera work and video editing in general, Premiere Pro is still our choice. Audio work is also not the best in DaVinci Resolve. Our organisation stuck with Adobe Creative Suite due to the integration it has with Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. While there is a roundabout to working with footage, it is still something that is being done by the industry as most editors have a preferred platform that they can be most effective with and we do not expect one software to be perfect in both audio, video, graphics and illustration. Le système de sauvegarde automatique sur le cloud est aussi un très gros point positif selon moi. Cons Il est parfois difficile de trouver l'option à cocher pour intégrer des séquence d'image sous forme de vidéo directement lors de l'imports. Pros Based on my experience using DaVincin Resolve Studio, not the free version!!!I find the color grading, the tracking motion, multicam editing and audio editing the most important functions that everyone needs and can find in this editing software. This software is one of the software in the cutting-edge technology for editing videos, but it is for experts!! Cons It is quite hard to start using this software because it is not intuitive at all. Although the community has the low number of contributors, you can find some tutorial videos on YouTube, but you don't find what you need at once. And that is what DaVinci has been to us. Courtesy Resolve, I was able to quickly learn video editing and production. A skill which now allows me to produce our success story videos and partner engagement video content. Often from videos shot with poor cameras, but with Resolve, the finished product is always beautiful. Pros my personal favorite is the wide ranging LUTs available for use, even in the free version. With these freely accessible presets, I save a whole lot of time from not having to do the all the tweaking and adjustments manually. Additionally, I can make changes to existing presets and customize them to my own preferences. Cons What I dislike about Resolve is that the audio mixing and mastering features are quite limited. So I always had to do the audio separate before merging it with the video in Resolve. And the downloadable third party plugins have always ended up crashing my system. I wish they had more advanced audio features in the free stock version so I wouldn't have to rely on the third party sources. November 10, 2020 5.0 Pros This is way more advanced than iMovie. It may seem a bit overwhelming at first but after watching a youtube tutorial you will get the hang of it in no time. Definitely a great quality product - and it's free which I cannot believe! Highly recommend! Cons There are some complicated parts that I have yet to learn. Not as easy as iMovie but that's just because it is more advanced. It is very easy to use once you learn the basics - although it can look overwhelming when you first start using the platform. I use Davinci Resolve to edit podcasts, YouTube videos, and multiple video projects I have done for clients and it never lets me down. I am not a video editing pro so I really, really appreciate the wide array of audio and visual plugins available for Davinci Resolve. Motion graphics, clips editing, 3D animations... you name it! I specially love the node base editing, it's a game changer. Cons The adaptation period coming from Premiere can be painful.
