### "Can't Recommend it Enough"

February 15, 2025

5.0

I am grateful that as a starting digital artist I found Krita. At the time I couldn't afford Adobe Photoshop or Procreate and coming across Krita was a good send. It has all the features of a software behind a pay wall and works even better.

Pros

The fact that this software is completely free is vital for new digital artists who cannot afford priced softwares.

Cons

Krita is pretty much perfect, I am always on the lookout for features that can be optimized in the softwares I use but Krita always delivers and I've never had any issues with it.

### "Krita is invaluable in my 3D workflow"

March 29, 2026

5.0

Overall Krita is a great drawing/painting tool. It is very useful for my needs as a 3D artist who mostly focuses on hand painted textures. I also love drawing and painting with it. Also, I like that you can export files into almost any file type that is needed.

Pros

It is free and open source. It is part of my workflow, I use it to edit textures for 3D models. It is also great for drawing and painting digital art. It also has the capability to do 2D animation.

Cons

The Animation tools are better than photoshop but I really wish they were simpler and more intuitive like Aseprite. Overall it is good but difficult to get used to, however I don't use that function so much. I also would like to see a separate RGB channel editor like Photoshop.

### "Krita can be better."

### "Good free software, not perfect"

March 10, 2026

4.0

If you have no money to invest in a drawing software, Krita is the best choice for you, thought I would recommend to upgrade as soon as you can to something more professional like Adobe Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint (not an ad)

Pros

Probably the best drawing software that is completely free. Very intuitive for drawing tablets, a LOT of brushes for every possible art style And the community has a lot of creative and helpful assets to use

Cons

A major disadvantage of it being free is the lack of optimization and laziness in some departments. It is extremely laggy and slow, and instead of tools being separated as tools, most are just brushes that feel like they weren't thought about

### "My thoughts on Krita:"

October 8, 2023

5.0

Krita is a free, reliable, and fairly easy to use digital paint software that really shines when compared to other software, because of its features, and especially because of its pricing. Its very straight forward with its features, and very easy to get lost in creation with just how simple it is to start up and get painting. Personally, I've had no problems. Other than a little bit of learning when it comes to animating, importing brushes, and some quirks with dealing with vectors, I'd say I can't think of a better software for people who don't have the time or money to get something like Adobe Illustrator. Art, animation, graphic design, texturing and really anything you want to create in the bounds of 2D (and with the excellent pricing of only $0.00@), Krita is your tool for your needs.

Pros

First let me say, its free, but boy does it function like a paid for software. It's easy to use, easy to animate, (after you learn how to set it up and use which isn't very hard) easy to draw and easy to have fun and be productive. Krita comes with a lot of different tools, like a ton of brush types for detail, layers for organizing and ease of use, and vector tools for your graphic design needs. It's also constantly being updated, so if there are any issues of features lacking (which there are some) it should be fixed or added in future updates. Also, for my 3D modelers out there, you can use Krita not only for making textures, but use a function in Blender called 'edit externally' to quickly switch between to the two for maximized efficiency.

Cons

It's hard to really organize the workspace and get it personalized to your needs. It does have workspace templates which normally suffice, but that doesn't excuse how tedious it is to customize to your liking. Vectors seem to be buggy, but I don't really understand how to use them, so that I can say how good or bad they really are. My main issue is when I make textures for 3D models, it's hard to import different brushes, and one can easily get turned off by how annoying it can be sometimes.

### "krita effects"

September 18, 2023

3.0

its basically an app for beginner artist, although there are even more free and easy to use apps to use but krita if from more better and i would recommend it to anyone starting their art journey.

Pros

the features are definitely easy to use, unlike adobe photoshop or illustrator that a bit complex and takes longer time to master, krita is far more easy to navigate and it makes quite good for beginner artists.

Cons

well, i think making the animation features easy to use, and even though its easy, its still doesn't compare to photoshop that is has some cool FX effects you can add to your artwork, or illustrator that is used for vector art, even clip studio paint has a feature that allows you to do vector artwork, so i think maybe adding features for effects that can make art more beautiful instead of drawing the whole thing from scratch.

Switched from

[Clip Studio Paint](https://www.capterra.com/p/210117/Clip-Studio-Paint/)

i am still using krita, it just i wanted to start making comics and clip studio is one of the best app for making comics, and its easy because every tool you need is already there like drawing the panels for the comics, although, with krita, you have to literally do everything from scratch and that waste time.

### "Krita: A free yet still incredible drawing tool for Digital Artists and Developers."

June 26, 2022

5.0

Overall Krita is my most used drawing software for a reason. I find it to be the most user-friendly, it's inexpensive and offers so many tools. I make use of other drawing software for other specific needs but for general digital drawing and asset creation I always come back to Krita.

Pros

Krita is completely free which is a big bonus and there are many different brushes to download. The software is the easiest I've ever used for digital drawing. It offers so many different tools that all work incredibly. I make use of Krita for creating game assets as well as comics and concept art and it works amazingly.

Cons

The only feature of Krita I don't enjoy is the text. Krita's text system is not great at all. It's very difficult to use and even harder to edit at a later stage. For me personally when it comes to adding text, like for lettering a comic, I export to Clip Studio Paint.

### "Cheap (or FREE!!) Photoshop for All!!"

January 7, 2023

5.0

My overall experience with Krita has been very positive. I downloaded it initially for the low/free pricetag, but it has proven itself to be a formidable competitor to the insanely expensive Photoshop.

Pros

I'm no professional artist or photo editor, but I have used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in the past. The feature set built into Krita is certainly comparable to Photoshop's but affordable for everyone! Krita is 100% free for everyone from their website, or a mere $10 on Steam which provides automatic updates and helps support the developers. I tried out the free download but ended up purchasing it on Steam because I wanted to support the hard work put in by the developers.

Cons

Vector graphics are not on the same level as say, Adobe Illustrator, but the basics are there, and that is better than nothing. I recommend Inkscape as a free vector graphics program.

Alternatives considered

[GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)](https://www.capterra.com/p/168960/GIMP/)

Reason for choosing Krita

Ease of use, expansive feature set, excellent pen support (I use a Microsoft Surface Book 3 and Surface Slim Pen 2).

Krita is a great FREE alternative to other softwares such as Affinity Photo, Photoshop, and Gimp.

Pros

Cons

### "Krita, the best open source alternative for vectorial drawing"

February 21, 2022

4.0

Krita was my alternative to photoshop, when I opened it for the first time I found it nice to look at the interface it has, also finding tools was very easy, I loved being able to see a variety of brushes that gave way to do endless things.

Pros

Krita has many brushes and drawing tools that many other software does not have out of the box. It is quite intuitive and its interface is easy to assimilate.

Cons

Krita is difficult to configure for those drawing tablets that are not supported.

### "Interested in Illustration and 2D Animation? Choose Krita!"

September 18, 2023

5.0

Great experience. Krita delivers all what illustration would require and help the artist create what they want generally effortlessly. With tools like automatic fill by adding a couple reference brush strokes, or extended features that are not specifically for illustration such as Editing and Animation, I've been able to create things relatively fast and well. Overall I think this programs is more than welcome trying out and I absolutely recommend it to anyone.

Pros

Easy-to-Use in general, with different workspaces and customizable workflows.Packed with features and many brushes.Animation-Making friendly, intuitive controls.Great at Illustration, with different brush engines, stabilizers and assistant tools, including also a way to paint by doing a couple of colored strokes and then automatically getting parts of the drawing painted.

Cons

Image editing could be improved, as it is relatively basic at the moment. Although this is not the main purpose of the application, it could be a good addition.2D Animation, although essentially possible, could be also further improved.Further Vector Graphics support and editing would be a welcome improvement as well. There are ways to work with vector graphics, but they are limited.

### "Richard Lubiano on Krita"

May 17, 2023

It's fun and satisfying working on Krita. They have options on editing a picture which i really enjoy and relieves boredom.

Pros

They have varities of features and always updates. Different selection of brushes makes my work more beautiful and meaningful.

Cons

The layout was a bit weird. The shadowing of the buttons are not likeable. Additional more brushes if possible. For me it is much better to make the brush setting more advance.

### "Made by artists to artists, the best drawing software, better than the paid ones"

December 10, 2020

5.0

After trying a lot of drawing software, in the last few months I started using Krita and now I have it as my "friend for whatever comes" the features are incredible and it is much better than the software I used previously and better, it's free! For me, Krita did better or equal to the famous and expensive drawing software.

Pros

The layout is adaptable to the artist's use, it can be changed according to what is most convenient. The standard brushes are amazing! The textured ones are the most amazing, but the normal ones are not left behind either. In addition, you can import brushes from Ps and create your own, you can also buy Krita brushes or free download them in internet! It has great filter options to refine final art, tools that make the colorization process fast and stabilizer for lineart.

Cons

For me Krita is perfect, the only problem I have to report is not a problem with the software itself but with my computer, sometimes my computer does not work very well, the brush stroke get slow or the keyboard freezes. Krita needs a strong processor and considerable memory to function in full condition. But it's nothing serious, just save, close and open Krita again!

### "Krita, the 2d tool I've kept coming back to"

November 10, 2022

5.0

I've only had an overwhelmingly postive experience with Krita and the community around it.It's one of the main softwares in my pipeline as a creative.

Pros

The best part about Krita is it's brush engine, the vast array of brushes and the feeling while drawing.I've used many 2d apps for Concepting as an Industrial Designer, but I've always felt confident with Krita. It's open source, and it's accessible, and it's feature rich and stable. Krita is one of those softwares that get's installed first after a fresh OS setup.Absolutely must have.

Cons

There is nothing I've experienced with Krita that I've disliked.Problems or bugs get resolved fast, and the community is very supportive.

It is an amazing program, the drawing pad connects east, wide selection of brushes, extra features too many to name, if you like to draw I highly suggest getting this and a drawing pad

Pros

This program works perfectly with a drawing pad and is so simple to get up and going, the brushes selection is great and the final results look amazing

Cons

### "FREE and complete software"

May 30, 2022

5.0

Krita is a very good drawing software totally free even if there are some bugs, they are largely compensated by the quality of what Krita offers.

Pros

The biggest advantage of Krita is that it is free compared to similar paid software, it is full of different brushes and textures, you can even create your own brush. The interface is also customizable and is constantly updated. Krita is easy to use, perfect for someone new to digital drawing and if you get lost, there are lots of different tutorials on the internet!

Cons

The only problem with this software is a few bugs here and there but Krita generally works well.

### "Using Krita for work"

December 30, 2022

5.0

I've been able to create graphics from sketches and based on pictures with Krita. It's help save so much money as well.

Pros

I appreciated most its competitive pricing (which is to say, it's free.) I also liked that it's relatively easy to figure out the graphics part.

Cons

I really would like to have better text integration. I also have to use Fire Alpaca to create designs with text in them. I would like it if Krita had more font options and more customizable font options for spacing and angling as well.

### "Test with Krita for the creation of logos and pictures in a craft store"

February 16, 2021

5.0

I am a designer in a store that works with laser machines, paintings and crafts in general so I always use and research a lot of software and Kripta was one I chose because of the effects that brushes can make on prints that we sell to the store. Professions, children and decoration boards get a different touch provided by the resources that the software has to offer, all for free.

Pros

Krita has a variety of impressive features and brushes, among the various tools that I can cite that help a lot and are different from the program are, the effects that each brush can generate, the possibility of creating your own brushes, the easy way to working with layers and an interesting feature that I discovered is the way the line can be drawn according to the intensity you press with the drawing pen

Cons

Krita does not have many negative points, it is a cheap software with many features. It is not always very intuitive when it comes to tools, but that doesn’t make it a bad software, moreover, it can sometimes hang a little bit according to the design you made, and working with texts on it is not so satisfactory

Krita allowed my team to make new creative content for our Inspired Edition and our designers made some beautiful illustrations for a print magazine from using this program.

Pros

Similar shortcuts like photoshop were a plus, easy to use and easy to teach, import and export work is simple and fast for mass illustration production.

Cons

Unlike clip studio pro or photoshop there are fewer customisable features and you do have some more limitations but the feasibility of the program makes up for it.

### "A great alternative for beginner artists"

January 1, 2022

5.0

I found this to be not all that different to Adobe Photoshop in regards of digital painting/drawing. It does have less of the same features, but this is what I would consider as an alternative for those that want to make a start in the digital art industry. This has not been designed for image editing and make sure you do not get it from a malware network.

Pros

This provides all the tools you need for graphic/concept design. It has a great variety of brush styles to choose from, and I found the pressure senses with my Wacom pen to be amazingly effective. You have the ability to rotate your composition and keep your work divided into layers. The template is very well organized and is free to install.

Cons

Although I have not experienced it yet, but what does concern me is when updates are made to this platform and how it can affect my desktop. Also, there are not as many colour editing options as there are in Photoshop.
