Krita is a professional drawing program for digital artists, for creating and editing illustrations. The program contains simulations for all kinds of techniques, including watercolor, oil paint, charcoal and pastel chalk. By default there are all kinds of customizable brushes, pencils and pens available to use. There are tools for perspective, halftone filters, layers and panel templates. It is very useful for my needs as a 3D artist who mostly focuses on hand painted textures. I also love drawing and painting with it. Also, I like that you can export files into almost any file type that is needed. Pros It is free and open source. It is part of my workflow, I use it to edit textures for 3D models. It is also great for drawing and painting digital art. It also has the capability to do 2D animation. Cons The Animation tools are better than photoshop but I really wish they were simpler and more intuitive like Aseprite. Overall it is good but difficult to get used to, however I don't use that function so much. I also would like to see a separate RGB channel editor like Photoshop. Very intuitive for drawing tablets, a LOT of brushes for every possible art style And the community has a lot of creative and helpful assets to use Cons A major disadvantage of it being free is the lack of optimization and laziness in some departments. At the time I couldn't afford Adobe Photoshop or Procreate and coming across Krita was a good send. It has all the features of a software behind a pay wall and works even better. Pros The fact that this software is completely free is vital for new digital artists who cannot afford priced softwares. Cons Krita is pretty much perfect, I am always on the lookout for features that can be optimized in the softwares I use but Krita always delivers and I've never had any issues with it.
