The free version is very interesting, but they also have a monthly subscription that unlocks new levels. Pros What I liked the most is that the software teaches you a series of languages in an entertaining way. The idea of unlocking levels to advance your knowledge of a language is fantastic. Also, the interface of the software is very easy to use. The interaction with the levels is a lot of fun. Cons What I liked the least was that the subscription to the premium version of the software does not offer you many new things compared to the free version, beyond new levels. I am actually still using it at the moment. Pros What i like most about Duolingo is the fact that it is absolutely free and out of all the other language learning apps, it has the widest variety of languages to learn; 37 to be exact. I also like the simplicity of the app. It's so easy to use even for the most ordinary person. The way the app is designed with funny animations is so welcoming that you can actually look forward to learning a language. I also love the way the app is designed to encourage the learner to not give up even when he or she has made a number of errors. Duolingo recognizes that language learning is not easy and patience is a required virtue so when one feels like throwing in the towel, the app is there to remind you in some way that it may be challenging, but it will all be worth it in the end. With all the positive attributes that the app possesses, i believe it is a great and fun tool that can even be used by children and families not just for learning, but for spending leisure. Cons What i dislike about this software is the lack of option for learning offline. I think learning should not be limited to strong internet connection. If there is a way that the software can be adjusted just a bit to accommodate learners who have poor internet connection, that would be wonderful so that learning goals can be reached faster. When it comes to the ads, there are some ads that are displayed that make me feel uncomfortable even as an adult. For instance If i was using Duolingo in public and some of these ads are shown, then people can question my character and probably any other learner's character. Those ads have been realy obnoxious and feel my Spanish reading and vocab has improved a enough to order the 12 month plan. Definetely recommend full version. Pros I really like the app. It is great to learn the basics. To be clear just using Duolingo to learn a language is not enough. You need other methods as well and most importantly you need to practice with native speakers. Btw, not only is their platform pleasing, fast, and fun, it works as promised! the only downside is of course the ads (and hence the 4 stars -- program and content is 5 stars for sure), but hey, IT IS FREE! IGNORING THE ADS IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY! Cons Quantity of material varies among languages. And I was really enjoying the program and the motivation it provided to keep my daily usage streak going., but reporting the bug is not easy, I did my best and after 3 days they have responded. Pros The best thing about learning Spanish with Duolingo is learning with some of my friends in my contacts. We have made a subtle competition and is quite motivating. I am on the basic/free edition and it works fine for me. One of the best feature about Duolingo is that I am able to go back and review exercises I've recently gotten wrong and also listen to the ones i missed. Of course that is on the Doulingo Plus which I was trying for 14 days. It tempted me to subscribe. Cons Sometimes I get wrong on most obvious expressions since it has its own sort of rigid interpretation. But i often ignore and move on. You want to do it daily Pros I like that I can learn a foreign language (Spanish) that I've been wanting to learn for such a long time. This is better than the Spanish course I bought years ago that was Spanish as spoken in Spain. My Mexican friends heard that when I first bought it and started laughing. I didn't use that course again after that Cons There are different versions (dialects ?) of Spanish. I'm not sure sometimes if I'm learning the version of Spanish that would be most useful. I live in Texas and want to speak Spanish like I would hear in Mexico. I do want to know the common slang words, but be able to carry on a conversation like an intelligent person. The activities also have to be redone in a short time for the circle to keep all filled, which ends up making us go back several times in the same lesson, hindering a little the evolution to other levels. Software has option to purchase a multi-user platform that is very simple to implement. Duolingo is a web-based app and easy to access anywhere. The number of available languages is staggering and do not require additional purchases to start learning these. Language learning is an engaging, visual based platform. It is easy to track how you're doing and progress through the path. Cons Not really any cons. Can use this program for free but limited in number of mistakes that can be made if you run out of lives. Pros I just love how easy the app is to use, UI/UX is playful and straight forwards. Duolingo literally has made learning a language fun. I love the plethora of languages there are to learn, currently doing spanish and french. App is quiet interactive, has a lot of assessments and fun ways to really help solidify what you have learnt. My favorite part and motivator were the score boards and competing with other language learners around the world, I literally would come back day after day just to see who beat my score. That aside, I love that it requires you to be interactive through typing and voice (click to respond). I felt accomplished after finishing each assessment/test. The more I work, the more I get demoted. I am not being tested or compared to how I have done but by how others do. Not interested in that. Languages are hard for me. By keep making the sentences faster and faster, there is no point in me trying. By hitting the 'slow' button, I hear the individual words - NOT how one word blends into the next. Perhaps there should be three layers as one gets more advanced. Pros Early on, i liked Duolingo a lot. There were others who had questions and there was a peer review from which I learned things. I liked the amount it repeats. Cons The timed practices. That doesn't test my knowledge of the language I am learning, it tests how fast my eyes go from one column to the other column. And then the right column doesn't even have the right words in it at the same time as the left column. It offers a great amount of vocabulary that can be very useful, using the softaware every day for just a few minutes I could have nice results. Pros I love learning different languages, this software was the nicest one I have used. You can choose more than one language, it has several types of languages that you can learn. The software has strategies to make the process of learning be very fun, you can learn from the basic to the advanced level, you will learn a lot of vocabulary and grammar and even practice the speaking and listening. If you forget to do the lessons the software will always warn you. Each level you achieve you get some reward. Cons The only thing I wish the software could improve is to have more explanations about the grammar rules like they do for English. Nowdays I am learning japanese, and it has been a very good experience, I had contact with the language on the past, but even for a person which had not have it, the way which the App explain everything, is pretty easy and well guided. My mother is learning spanish using it, and it is awesome how she can talk with me and explain some complexes things using the skills which she learned through Duolingo. Pros The ease of use, the contents inside it, the exercises, the grammatic explanations are pretty good, also they have some "died languages", as latin, Irish, and some other dialects, which without this kind of technology would be tend to disappear. Cons Sometimes the exercises repeat so much, at point to make the user bored, but I know that some people learns with repetition.
