Pros I like that it is repetitive to a certain point, everything is etched in your head and over time if you don't know any English it helps a lot. Cons First, if you already have a base of the language that you want to learn or reinforce, it becomes very annoying. I appreciated the gamified approach, which encourages doing your lessons consistently by motivating you to maintain your daily streak - which is a bigger motivation than I expected. Cons Some sections in this app can be a bit repetitive, mostly because they often use the same vocabulary throughout the section. July 23, 2021 5.0 Overall, it is an effective language learning app. I like the fact that it engages all modalities of learning. From the excellent audio narration to the definitions available when the user long-pushes each word in a sentence, the app is varied in its approach to teaching languages. I especially like the feature where the user can discuss a concept with others in a chat room! And there is a chat room for almost every section of instruction! The only feature I do not appreciate are the commercials. Pros I live the "gameification" aspect of the app. You want to advance in your learning to unlock awards and get to the next level... just like in a video game! Anyone who has a competitive nature, such as myself, loves this! Pushing myself to get the next achievement. Learning becomes fun again through the use of games! Cons The commercials that appear, without the user's permission, are not appreciated. There never used to be commercials in the past. Additionally, there is a lot of fill-in-the-blank and matching learning exercises, whereas earlier in the app's history, most exercises consisted of vocabulary memorization. I really liked the past emphasis that was placed on the development of a large vocab base and think that with it now missing, the opportunities for effective learning are limited. Pros Duolingo is an excellent software that let you learn new languages. It has almost all of prominent languages that it teaches. The teaching method is very systematic amd.indcludes audio, text and pictorial input and output. Its integrated test modules further aid yoir learning of a language. You can sync your Duolingo with email account thus enabling you to access and continue your progress from where you left on any device. It is available on all computer and smartphone systems. You can use most of its main features for free, and the paid version is more amazing and not that much costly. Duo on Duolingo has been my friend for a very long time. Either make the whole program a paid subscription or split it for users to choose, but don’t harass them. Pros The lessons with listening, composing alternation Cons The unrelenting pressure to try Super Duolingo. It started with “no thanks” options, progressed to pop up ads with a loud voice that disrupted concentration, and finally a three day trial button from which, if you accidentally clicked, there was no way out. The program started with 14 lessons and was decreased to just 3. They were progressively putting more and more pressure to go to Super Duolingo. I did not like this experience. Until recently I was very happy with duolingo overall. I am genuinely interested in learning a new language and truly happy that duolingo is helping me learn. I have dedicated time daily to my learning. I make a very conscious effort to set time aside in my day and in my life to use duolingo to learn a language. I paid for a subscription and as such I expect not only to use this services but to learn and understand how my learning journey is progessing. I encouraged my friends to use duolingo. This week I came across a supposed user in my league who not only came out of nowhere – I have not seen them in previous leagues, but who is surpassing fast in every lesson and accumulating points with a speed that is incredible. I am pretty good but I do not thing it possible to achieve the equivalent of five units in one hour. So I looked into bots and there are a few discussions out there about Duolingo supposedly using bots to increase the time users spend on the app. This made me lose confidence in this appIt is frankly insulting if this is what Duolingo chooses to do. Increasing competition between real users is a great idea. Using false users to do so is paramount to laughing in our faces and taking the efforts we make learning a language for granted. In the future, I will not recommend this to anyone. Pros easy to understand and follow. tips are good although there could be more Cons Potential use of bots that came up recently.
