### "A great free voip service"

May 8, 2026

5.0

google voice was easy to use and easy to set up, it wasn't until i cancelled my number and tried to get another one that i had any issues.

Pros

google voice is free to use as long as you have phone service through a service provider prior to signing up for google voice. The app is easy to learn how to use and understand the features, its pretty straight forward. google voice also allows you to get verification texts as well as regular texts and sms messages.

Cons

it would be better if you could get multiple google voice numbers with the same email account and it was pretty frustrating when i couldn't recover my old google voice number or get a new google voice number with the email account that i was previously using.

### "Free and Fabulous"

January 23, 2026

4.0

It was super easy to set up, I like that I can send the call info to my email for tracking. Thrilled that it has texting available and that it's consistent. Love that its free.

Pros

Value for money. I just started a small business and provided I dont send messages that look like spam or duplicates, I have very few issues. It's been very helpful!

Cons

It can be a little clunky. It doesnt show on my phone whether its a normal call or gvoice call and that can be a little stressful. Also, the web interface doesnt have emoji's, which for a regular business would be fine, but I deal with weddings and a certain number of heart emojis is expected.

Reason for choosing Google Voice

Budget. This has the most features and the lowest budget out of everything I looked at and interfaces with my entire setup.

### "Outdated irritation"

May 3, 2026

3.0

So frustrated. I have to be really careful when using it. I have to double and triple check all texts and links to google calendar sent.

Pros

The only thing I like about Google Voice is the convenience. I am overall frustrated with Google voice.

Cons

You have to open up contacts to change contact information, you can't just change it in google voice, so if you mistype something, it's stuck like that only if you open contacts. There's not an edit button. I am frustrated that there is a 160 character limit for SMS texts. I didn't know this for months because I never received an error message that texts weren't sent. Also, links sometimes don't get sent. I have to confirm and reconfirm if texts were received, and sometimes none of that gets through. It's profoundly frustrating because it's led to missed appointments. There's not even a character count to make sure. I have to open a separate document to make sure I'm under 160 characters. I know this is dependent on the person's cell phone carrier and service at the time, but I feel like there must be a way to fix this. I had to reach out to the google community to find all this out. I'm the only one in my organization to figure this out.

### "My Go to is Google voice."

April 15, 2025

5.0

Overall experience with Google voice has been amazing, I've had the same phone number through them for a few years now and it's helped me be able to manage everything even when I didn't have a regular cell phone number.

Pros

What I like most about Google voice is that you get all the features of a regular phone number for free with Google voice's virtual phone number, mostly the ability to receive verification codes

Cons

What I like least about Google voice isn't necessarily directed at Google voice but at other websites or programs that won't accept the Google voice phone number because it is VoIP.

Because I needed assistance with accessing my verification codes and text now charged 99 cents each time I would need to receive a verification code which was adding up to a lot of money. Google voice provides me that feature for free.

### "Perfect For Professional Business Calls!!"

April 27, 2026

5.0

My company uses Google Voice to assign each employee a work number. My overall experience has been very positive. Google Voice integrates seamlessly with my home cell service and hardware. I make approximately 20 calls a day through Google Voice and have never had an issue!

Pros

I really like the clarity of every single phone call! I like the feature of being able to utilize the "Do not disturb" feature outside of my normal working hours. I did not know it had this feature at first and I was getting work calls in the middle of the night!

Cons

There are a lot of features I am not familiar with, so I would say better training material is needed. Ever since I discovered the "do not disturb feature," I can't think of anything else I would change!

### "Wonderful product for small business"

April 20, 2026

5.0

Overall my experience using Google Voice has been great. I'd recommend it to anyone in small business or private practice. It fills a specific need in an innovative way.

Pros

Google Voice, through their HIPAA compliant option, provides a simple, low cost option for a secure voicemail/phone service. As a therapist in solo private practice Google Voice provides the option not only for phone calls but also text and sms, should I wish to utilize those options in my practice, for a low monthly fee. I've not experienced any bugs and issues in over a year of utilizing it so I've not needed to contact their customer support, but I am sure customer support is as high quality as the product! While there is a little bit of a learning curve moving from using a traditional phone to Google Voice it is very intuitive. While primarily I utilize Google Voice to reach out if a patient is late or to receive calls, it would be a great option for voice-only meetings as well.

Cons

I leave a few tabs up when I log off if I don't restart my computer and Google Voice is one of them. It took me a few days to get into the habit of refreshing it each morning, otherwise it doesn't seem to actually reload. Truly the tiniest of things not to like, especially in the context of how well Google Voice works!

### "Easy to set up and works great"

April 28, 2026

5.0

Overall the experience is great and reliable. The voice to text translate is usually spot on. Important voicemails don't get lost as it consolidates right into my email. Highly recommend.

Pros

Google voice is great for consolidating voicemails into my emails. Usually there are follow up tasks from my business voicemails and having everything in my email inbox ensures nothing will get forgotten.

Cons

There is a bit of a delay from a call coming in to when you can answer it on your cell phone. Often this will cause the call to get missed especially if I have to press a button for the call to proceed. Not a major issue, but something to be aware of.

### "Google Voice - The Best VoIP Optionn!"

May 14, 2026

5.0

Overall, Google Voice is my selection for VoIP. With a great value for money and a small learning curve, you can't go wrong with Google Voice!

Pros

Google Voice is an excellent solution for a business looking for an effective VoIP. It allows for easy access to text messaging as well as meetings. Customer support is there to help with any issues that may come up!

Cons

Google Voice seemed to lack some background options that other similar VoIP services have. There also is occasional bugs and issues with its mobile app that can lead to frustration during crucial communication times.

### "Not my favorite. "

May 31, 2026

2.0

Pros

I can't think of much I like about Google Voice. I have been overall dissatisfied with the product since I got it almost four years ago.

Cons

I hardly ever use it, and I always get spam calls. And when I get spam calls and hit "ignore" they just keep on ringing forever and ever until the end of time (or until they hang up). No matter how many times I try to report this or fix it, it hasn't changed. I will likely remove it from my tech stack soon.

### "Google voice for call forwarding and voicemail is the way to go"

January 16, 2023

5.0

Google voice has been a great tool to allow for frequent updates to voicemail message, tracking of missed calls, and being able to read a transcript of voicemails.

Pros

I like how easy it is to set up, connect call forwarding to my existing cell number, and rely on and change the voicemail message based on vacations, meetings, and life events.

Cons

There are times where the call forwarding gets messed up and losses it connection. I will not find out until a friend, colleague, or customer mentions my voicemail is not working.

### "The love of Google Voice "

October 27, 2024

5.0

My overall experience with Google voice is positive. This is set up to be personal and business friendly. It is straightforward and easy to use and understand.

Pros

I love having a number I can use just for business. It takes voicemail and receives text messages. You can also forward calls anywhere you need. Also spam calls are automatically separated and silenced. Voicemail messages are in text, so you can quickly read them.

Cons

You do have to use it or lose it. It will remind you to take or make a call, if you go a certain time with no calls.

### "Much needed for a business line!"

November 4, 2024

5.0

I use Google Voice for my business phone line, it's very convenient and has always been free! I can access it across multiple phones or from my laptop, so I never miss a call or text from customers.

Pros

I love how I'm able to access voicemail messages via email on my laptop or I can read voicemail transcript in the app. This helps me out big time!

Cons

The name prompt when receiving a call. Most of the time callers think it is my voicemail and hang up. I feel this feature should be optional for users.

August 24, 2024

It wasn't the best because at times, I needed to use this type of service, and wasn't able to due to not having a cell phone number to attach to the account.

Pros

You didn't need to pay for the service in order to use Google Voice.

Cons

### "StartUps, Let Google Voice Be Your First Business Phone"

November 4, 2022

5.0

Pros

This is so easy to use, so easy to setup, so easy to...it's just so easy. The number you have can be used as a second line that you can answer with your smartphone. You can also answer from the console provided within Gmail. Don't forget to make use of the number frequently. It's your choice if you want to plug in a headset or use your device's volume system while on calls. Can't beat free either. If budget is a factor until it's time to upgrade, Google Voice is an affordable small-business tool.

Cons

Listening to voice mail messages can be choppy at times, but it doesn't happen too much. From my experiences, voice messages come through crystal clear. As far as the transcribed version of the voice messages, it could be better. Nevertheless, I usually could make out what was trying to be transcribed. If there's infrequent use, it's problematic when it comes to keeping the number. You'd have to start the process over again. It isn't a pleasant experience, so best believe once the number is established make sure to use it regularly.

### "Great, free app for VOIP calls"

March 31, 2018

5.0

Pros

I've used this app for years, and even though it's not one they're really doing much with anymore, I'm glad it's still up and running. I did hear they were planning to upgrade it or integrate it in some other platform eventually, but while I know it's part of Google Hangouts, I don't know about future plans. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my cell phone in the house somewhere, and having done away with landlines 20 years ago, I don't have another phone to use to call my missing cell to find it. So I use Google Voice to dial my cell, and track it down while it's ringing. (Yes, I know I can also use Find My Phone, but the few times I have tried that, it told me the phone was out of range, when in fact it was in the next room.) Also, for a while there I was having battery charging issues with my phone and it would die all the time. Google Voice was a great option for getting in touch with someone if I couldn't use my phone. Google Voice also gives you your own phone number, so for instance, on my website I used my Googe Voice phone number instead of giving out a personal cell number. Google Voice also takes messages, and although the alerts to having new Google Voice messages hasn't worked completely reliably, it is cool that it will transcribe the message for you using voice recognition so you can click on a message and just read it rather than having to listen to it. But of course voice recognition isn't always right, so sometimes the messages are a little garbled, but you can usually figure out what was said. There's no delay or hum on the line when I have used it to make calls. And you can text through this connection, too. If you go into settings and configure it the right way, you can even switch from Google Voice to another phone in the middle of the call. There are apps for Android use, although I haven't used any of them. And if you use it through the Google Hangouts portal, you can "face time" and conference call and share files. Oh - and calls are free in the US. If you want to call outside the US you have to add money to the account first.

Cons

Not a lot has been done to the basic app in a while by Google, so if they are planning some big roll out of a new and improved version, that would be great. If you use it outside the Hangouts platform, it is pretty simplistic, but serves its purpose. There's really not a lot negative you can say about it. It makes calls and takes calls and the quality of the connection is pretty good. For free.

### "Cheap and Reliable Phone for Small Business"

December 11, 2022

5.0

Very happy. I use Google for almost all aspects of my business and for around $20/month (as of Dec-2022) I'm getting a phone number, email, website, etc.

Pros

The iPhone app means I can just use my existing phone, but have a completely separate number to talk and text from for my business. It's also great that I can view and send texts from the browser, handy for when I'm doing invoicing from my laptop etc.

Cons

My one complaint is that the iPhone app doesn't resize photos when you send them. The default iPhone photos are too large for most carriers to accept. So when I want to send a photo, I have to use another app to resize it, then send it from Google Voice. It should just resize like every other messaging system does.

Reason for choosing Google Voice

I looked at other phone carriers. I couldn't find anything with reliable and professional products (like being able to get a local number for the area I service) without spending a LOT more through a traditional phone carrier.

### "Google Voice great for customer service! "

May 11, 2023

5.0

We use Google Voice for our customer service line. I can answer work calls anytime, anywhere. The connection is always great and I have never had any problems with any of the hundreds of calls I've answered and returned. It keeps a log and is very easy to use.

Pros

Google voice allows you to use your personal phone while answering company calls on a different phone line in the area code that you need it from. The calls have great connection, and include text messaging and voice mail.

Cons

The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't send attachments you receive in text message over email directly from the app. You have to first download them and then send them through your phone.

Reason for choosing Google Voice

Convenience and trial periods showed Google Voice was better connected than the other ones we researched

### "Excellent for small businesses"

November 2, 2023

Overall, Google Voice solved all of our telephone issues. We have been able to add lines for new employees and we also love the ability to use it on our desktops for the employees that field calls in the office.

Pros

Google Voice was integrated into our company a little over 2 years ago. I don't know how we lived with out it before. It was so simple to set up and implement. We love how easy it is to use and also the app. It is a powerful tool.

Cons

There isn't much that I dislike about Google Voice. Once the settings were set up right for our business, it is pretty flawless.

Reason for choosing Google Voice

Google Voice was recommended to me by a colleague. We didn't try out other products in our switch.

### "An Easy Alternative For Smaller Businesses"

November 22, 2022

Aside from the spam calls we get if we don't update our information regularly, Google Voice has been an integral part of our operation. We can list a separate business number that is available, without dishing out on a monthly subscription. Google voice is accessible and can be managed by multiple people, if desired.

Pros

Google Voice is always available for us and an easy way to contact customers or speak to any foot traffic that has come across our public profile. We're able to use just one phone, and keep a trustworthy, alternative number to our social and business profile.

Cons

If you don't update your public information on a regular basis, you leave yourself open to many spam callers asking for the very same thing: 'we want to sell you our Google Profile services'.

### "Everyone should have a Google Voice Number"

January 13, 2023

5.0

Pros

One might think that with a free service you get what you pay for. Not true with Google Voice. Yes, you can pay if you want to, for instance to make international calls, but there is no additional cost. I love the call screening and fwd feature. Absolutely love being able to use it over wifi when out of the country to call clients in the States without incurring roaming. Also, I forgot about the texting feature. It allows for quick check ins without phone or email and the texts also go to your Gmail account.

Cons

Honestly, I have no complaints. It allows me to have one phone with two numbers. I no longer have to have one phone for business and one personal. In addition, it's free.

### "The best free phone number you could ever own"

May 7, 2022

4.0

I've had the same Goggle Voice number for over a decade. I've used it as the main number for my Real Estate business, and have never had a problem transferring it to another phone. It's an incredible service that is 100% free.

Pros

I don't think most people are aware of all the advantages having a Google Voice number provides. You can make phone calls over Wi-Fi (without having wireless active service). You can transport your number with ease to any provider at anytime. You can screen phone calls and even listen to messages while they are being left. You can take the call while a message is being left You can have your Google Voice number forwarded to multiple other phones which will all ring. The list goes on and on.

Cons

There are times when a phone call may not come through or you are unable to make an outgoing call.
