I am very thankful for that! Pros I like the ease of use with Google Voice. As a teacher, I do not often want to give my personal number to families but I also want them to be able to easily reach me. Since I currently do not have access to my school, I needed a way for families to call me with questions and/or concerns. Cons I do not like that it can be difficult to get a phone number that falls within your area code. Many families will not answer a call that is out of area code. Review Source LR Lori R. I loved having a completed novel in a fraction of the time. The issue was in editing and remembering what I had dictated. A good workaround is to record it while I'm doing it. Pros I loved the ease of using Google Voice when dictating my manuscripts. The words typed onto the document the moment I spoke it. Cons You can't train Google Voice so many of the words I spoke were wrong. And it didn't type out the punctuation. Review Source Larisa B. I would also like to receive lower rates for calls within Eastern Europe. Pros With the minimum subscription package, you get unlimited calls and SMS in the USA. Integration into Google services for business. There are convenient mobile apps for Android and iOS. Cons Weak integration with Gmail and Google Hangouts. I don't think I would utilize the service for a full telephony solution although for simple usage it is a good choice. Pros Google voice is quick to setup and start receiving calls or text messages. Incoming messages and calls come in quick and the audio quality is very good. For single use, generally it works well. Cons The phone number choosing is very limited. It is difficult to get a number in an area code you prefer, from my experience. It also does not have a Fax solution although nowadays this may not be a big deal. Review Source mN mina N. I am able to save money and also separate my business from my personal life/information, all while using the same device(s). Pros I love how Google Voice allows me to separate my personal digital life from my business one. I use my Google Voice number specifically to contact clients and associates within my private practice for psychotherapy. It makes the clear separation between work and home very easy to achieve. Cons It is a bit confusing to first sign up for Google Voice. At the same time, I needed a very specific area code to use for business and administrative purposes, and it took some time to find one that became available. Pros I loved the idea that I could turn off my work phone and use a Google Voice number for my pet sitting clients to reach me in case of an emergency. Cons Please stop making it difficult to keep the number. I was able to reclaim my number the 1st time it was deleted and the second time I was not. It's disappointing. Pros First of all, it's free. Secondly, it has given me the space to separate myself from my business, in a world where we're expected to be available always. Google voice gave me an independent phone number that links up with my cell phone, allowing me to cut costs while maintaining a professional boundary with clients. Cons If there were a way to notify me that the incoming call was from my Google voice number, that would be ideal. But it doesn't seem to be a function quite yet. Review Source WM William M. Pros I liked that I could roll my phone's voicemail over to Google Voice in order to save storage space on my device. Also, you can't beat getting a virtual phone number for free. Throughout my professional tenure I've not only written code but have had the experience of collaborating with EVERY SINGLE professional SWITCH/PBX hardware and application on the market. My conclusion, Google Voice is THE answer to simplifying a basic Hosted SWITCH/PBX solution. Pros It's as simple as it gets to trunk calls and It's free! Cons After 7 years, it's a very basic setup to get your system started but when u upgrade you'll need to transfer your data but it is not difficult at all. However, I do not have to worry about sharing my personal number. Pros Google Voice has been a lifesaver in making parent contacts as I can easily use my phone to contact the parent without having to worry about sharing my personal cell phone number. Then, if a parent calls my Google Voice number, I receive an email telling me of the call and can call the person back at my convenience. Cons I cannot think of any cons with Google Voice. Cons Signing up and trying to find what I needed on the site was such a time-consuming affair, I've dreaded going back in. Pros It is free and yet very useful. Help you keep your real number info private in many cases. Cons It's good for texting, making calls, and receiving text but NOT for receiving calls. The caller would need to wait and listen to a message from Google voice before being able to reach you.
