### "Good Password Manager but not Great"

August 24, 2025

5.0

Overall we liked using but decided against making it our password manager. It is a very good option but not the most robust and deep/wide with a variety of well baked features.

Pros

has been a solid option for our company. It has a bit more of a learning curve then we expected but overall it's been a solid expereience.

Cons

The learning curve to get up and running was a little steeper but to be honest it wasn't a big deal. Just some of our employees sturggled a little more.

### "Secure and reliable password manager, if you don't mind some slightly dated aesthetics"

April 15, 2026

4.0

Overall it gets the core functions right; it's secure and reliable and proves to be excellent value for money - the free tier really helping to drive this point home; providing essential password management capability that doesn't hide essential functionality behind paid tiers. The interface does feel slightly dated though, and in this day and age where all apps are boasting crisp, polished GUIs, this is only exacerbated. it doesn't try to compete on additional features or fancy extras, but instead places more weight on steady and reliable function; as an IT professional this is a common tradeoff and one that I would happily choose over feature-bloated solutions that seem to cater to more markets, but provide less depth in doing so.

Pros

is a strong competitor for password management solutions. It's secure, syncs across multi platforms, and great value via free tier or paid. Most of the fundamental features can be accessed via their free tier; including syncing across devices, complex password generation, autofilling credentials and secure notes. Amongst its crowning features you can find MFA support, passkeys and credential breach/leak monitoring to ensure you keeping on top of any potential security threats - although this feature is usually only for paying customers. it's a versatile tool that can be used for more complex setups, such as balancing personal and professional profiles and 'shared vaults' for credential sharing. A great addition is the support for local hosting for any that worry about the reliability of online platforms, or simply want to have sovereignty over their own data. To this extent however, the software is open source, which is a great plus for transparency and user trust.

Cons

The interface can sometimes feel unpolished or less intuitive to those that are new to the software; comparing against some other paid solutions can feel like you are missing that 'premium' finish found in alternatives. The free tier is a great way to get started and removes barriers to entry, however this also means that some of the nicer 'bells and whistles' require a subscription. The focus on seems to lean towards functionality over presentation, which is a great tradeoff - especially from a tech background - however can definitely be a deciding feature for more casual users when deciding on which solution to go with. It can definitely come across as minimalistic when compared to other solutions that offer buckets of additional features, snap-ins and add-ons; such as VPN clients or credential/breach monitoring.

Lastpass is often the first and most popular solution that is presented when approaching this topic, however having worked in IT for some years I am aware of their unfortunate history of having experienced significant data breaches/hacks in 2022, 2015 and 2011. This is what tips the scale towards personally.

### "Very confusing for set up and use"

May 13, 2024

2.0

Very, very frustrating. Also disappointed because I had invested a fair amount of time comparing different password managers and thought this one would work. Instead it turned into a huge waste of time.

Pros

That it was free - I appreciate that at least I did not lose money when I deleted my account.

Cons

User interface, help, instructions, etc. very hard to follow for beginner. It was difficult getting started, and I never could find a satisfactory answer on why there are both a web app and a browser extension. There are also mobile and desktop apps. I could not tell if we needed all of the apps installed, and if not, why would we have desktop, web, and extension all on same computer?

### "Superb password manager"

February 14, 2026

5.0

Superb product and the best password manager as of writing this review. It beats every competition in terms of features offered on free version.

Pros

This is my go to password management software with autofill for smoother login experience across multiple websites. Information is secure yet easy to access anywhere in multiple devices.

Cons

Mobile phone experience may be a bit weaker less support on feature such as autofill for website logins.

### "Great password manager, great support, with some minor flaws"

October 30, 2025

4.0

We demoed at work to use for IT and eventually roll out to other departments. I love it for IT, we moved off of Keepass on to it. We were self-hosting the Keepass database and realized that if we had an infrastructure outage we would be missing all our passwords. The sales process was easy, setup was easy and didn't require interaction with support. When I have needed to reach out to support, they have been quick to respond and very helpful.

Pros

Customer support has been very good, decent amount of integrations. Getting a family plan to use at home was a plus for me, though not the selling point. Passkey support, ToTP code support(!), custom fields are easy to add, integration with Simple Login for creating throwaway usernames when signing up. They have an extension for Edge Mobile on Android!

Cons

The integration with Simple Login disappears and I have to set it back up. I eventually gave up on this piece. Sometimes it just refuses to work with certain sites and I have to copy/paste. On mobile, when the password field is only shown after entering username on a site, the app will be "helpful" and copy the ToTP code for that login to my clipboard but I have to overwrite my clipboard to get my password for the site THEN get the ToTP code, which is an annoyance. Extension for Edge Mobile on Android is always locked and tapping to unlock never works. You have to pull up the actual extension to unlock it. This may be Google/Microsoft's fault, I don't know, but still annoying. Collections are not the best for management. I still like a Folder structure rather than a Collection. If you create a new "folder" inside a collection you are actually creating a new Collection and need to assign rights to it again, it doesn't inherit.

### "Bitwarden is a reward!"

August 25, 2025

Excellent! The solution that covered our needs both for password management and secret keys to manage without exposing them in our codings.

Pros

The security and self-host solution. The features and covering the needs for our codings with Secret Manager.

Cons

### "User friendly"

October 24, 2025

5.0

Overall, has been fantastic. I've used a multitude of password managers in the past and Bitwarden is by far the easiest to use and manage.

Pros

It's easy to work, easy to manage, easy to do just about anything. A great product for me and for my customers. My customers really enjoy this product, as well.

Cons

My customers utilize EntraID groups and when trying to add/remove/edit users, there's no way for admins to sync with EntraID to make sure the users are removed/added/edited.

### "Bitwarden Overall Good Password Management Tool!"

August 18, 2025

5.0

Overall pretty good experience. There has been hiccups with using the extension and the search was not working and I had to reinstall the extension once, but other than that, always works!

Pros

The easy use of the product as well as the UI interface. The password management set up is as powerful as other competitors.

Cons

I do not like the limited search functionality for looking at passwords or secure notes. The only way you can search is by name, not by date created/modified, etc.

### "Password Protection and Storing you can believe in"

August 25, 2025

5.0

It's been great. I would recommend it to other folks in IT. It's sometimes difficult to say that you believe in a service these days but, I do have some faith invested in .

Pros

It's secure. Honestly, that's what I am really looking for in a password manager. I want to know that my passwords aren't stored somewhere that is easily accessible to those looking to steal my information.

Cons

There's not really anything that I don't like. It's organized and does a good job of allowing me to search for passwords that I may not have known what folder I put them in.

### "helpful and secure"

March 10, 2026

5.0

It is great and exciting since it keeps the passwords organised and secure behind many layers of authentication and supports many types of passwords and secrets.

Pros

It is my most favourite password manager, and it has been amny ears sine I moved into using it and have not changed it yet, since it provides great service for the price it takes, and has a responsive and efficient customer support, while providing a seamless login and secret management tools and options, in a wide range of storage. It is secure by adding 2-FA earliest between all the password managers.

Cons

I like it a lot, but sometimes I make errors, and the network stability also matters for it so much; maybe this is a security measure, but it is annoying.

Pros

### "Powerful password management at a good price, but with a clunky user interface and steep learning cu"

October 20, 2021

4.0

For the most part, I like . Despite some of it's shortcomings, it is a powerful password manager, and with the ability to self-host your passwords provides a great level of security.

Pros

is a powerful and flexible password manager, with the ability to not just store basic password, but also one-time (two factor) passwords, non-password items (such as credit cards, identification documents, and memberships), and secure notes. Bitwarden has browser extensions for all of the big browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) that work extremely well allowing you to not only automatically enter passwords on websites, but to automatically generate passwords and store them directly in Bitwarden. Furthermore, Bitwarden offers both a free tier, with a lesser feature set (specifically in not allowing the storage of one-time passwords) as well as an extremely inexpensive subscription tier ($10/year). Finally, by default, all of your passwords are stored in the Bitwarden cloud with easy to setup synchronization between your devices; however if you are uncomfortable storing all of your passwords in the cloud, Bitwarden offers a powerful self-hosting option (albeit it is difficult to setup).

Cons

The user interface is functional, but clunky. Being fully cross-platform, it has non-native look and feel regardless of the platform you are using. In addition, while it is great that their is a free tier, if you use two-factor authentication for your accounts that support it (which you absolutely should do!), the free tier is far less useful as it does not support two-factor one-time passwords. Finally, the self-hosting option is fantastic, but is relatively difficult to setup (especially for the non-tech savvy users). Self-hosting requires you to have your own domain name, an always on computer, and an understanding of Docker. provides a decent tutorial on how to set all of this up, but it is not for the faint of heart

Alternatives considered

[Keeper Security](https://www.capterra.com/p/144637/Keeper/)[LastPass](https://www.capterra.com/p/151988/LastPass/)

Reason for choosing Bitwarden

iCloud Keychain is an attractive alternative if you are all in on the Apple ecosystem, but lacks some power features found in alternatives. Minimalist Password Manager has a very attractive interface, a good road map, and very responsive developer - but is macOS/iOS only. LastPass can be expensive, no native app, and a clunky interface. Keeper is downright expensive and just simply not great.

Switched from

[1Password](https://www.capterra.com/p/176113/1Password/)

1Password is a fantastic password manager, but it's owner, AgileBits, has made some extremely questionable, frustrating, and user-hostile decisions over the past couple months. As such, I am actively looking into migrating to a new password manager - being one possible option.

### "Best password manager I've used!"

January 30, 2024

5.0

Great! I'm am so much more organized and secure with my information and passwords after starting with . It's available on every platform I need and easily setup.

Pros

I love that it's free to get started, and the upgrade is very reasonable, if you end up needing to. I use the password generator all the time!

Cons

Autosave and autofill work 80% of the time, which is great, but not 100%. I have had times when trying to create a new entry using the browser plugin, that I accidentally clicked off, closing the popup and losing the info I had not saved yet. This has caused frustration more often than I'd like. Editing entries can be tedious, but you are protected from messing with things you want to leave untouched.

### "Amazing Passwordmanager"

July 21, 2022

5.0

I switched from LastPass about two years ago and i don't miss a thing. The Software is extremely small in size, has amazing encryption options, is blazingly fast and gets updated regularely.

Pros

It is extremely easy to setup, holds an unlimited amount of passwords (i currently have saved around 400) and let's you create even credit card pre-fills or save Adresses. So i usually can directly login to a website and let fill out everything else with just a few clicks.

Cons

On mobile devices sometimes 's Trigger doesn't work. That's usually when an In-App Browser is used and Bitwarden can't destinct between the shown Browser Page and the App. So in such cases you usually have to go to the Vault directly and copy your credentials to your clipboard.

### "Great FREE open source password manager with similar functionalities to the paid competitors'"

June 3, 2021

5.0

Does all that I need it to do and more, I will definitely be using if for years to come.

Pros

\- Simple, intuitive, easy to use software that has a great security reputation (open source!) so you can sleep well at night knowing your passwords are safe - Wide compatibility between iOS, Mac, Android, Windows, different browsers etc meaning you can easily access your passwords anywhere - Supports biometrics meaning you can quickly log in and access your passwords - Extra features like secured notes, password generator, autofill etc which are all added value in a free software - Small annual fee to support developers will also grant you extra features, but these are just extras and not necessary

Cons

\- Password generation could be more smooth so that it autofills, instead of having to copy the generated password and then after x amount of seconds the clipboard clears due to security measures and then you've lost your newly generated password. I would prefer it autofilling the newly generated password - On Android app, be able to select passwords directly in the field instead of having to enter the vault and select them there, fewer steps would make it even quicker

Switched from

[LastPass](https://www.capterra.com/p/151988/LastPass/)

Lastpass was becoming annoying to use due to them trying to force everyone to pay by only allowing you to access your vault on one device. I use my Mac and Android daily, so being able to use my password manager on multiple devices was crucial, and I couldn't justify paying for Lastpass when such a great, free alternative was available

### "The best free password manager in the market"

September 8, 2022

4.0

I always tought using a passowrd manager would be a hassle, but it wasn't. I've been using it for many years now and don't even give it any tought; is just a seamless part of my personal and professional workflows. I even suggested it to coworkers and family members who are less tech savy then I am and it worked very well for them as well.

Pros

I absolutely love the simplicity and ease of setup of . It is so simple to use and is very stripped down of unnecessary features. I also love the fact that it is open source, which all security software should be in my opinion. It offers certainly the best free tier of any other provider, so if you don't intend to pay for a password manager or don't need any other advanced features, it is certainly the best.

Cons

I believe lacks certain features that other providers offer in their paid tiers (and that is why I am still not a paying client). I also believe the two-factor authentication options should be more broad, as none of the ones avaliable work for me.
