### "Good Password Manager but not Great"

August 24, 2025

5.0

Overall we liked using Bitwarden but decided against making it our password manager. It is a very good option but not the most robust and deep/wide with a variety of well baked features.

Pros

Bitwarden has been a solid option for our company. It has a bit more of a learning curve then we expected but overall it's been a solid expereience.

Cons

The learning curve to get up and running was a little steeper but to be honest it wasn't a big deal. Just some of our employees sturggled a little more.

### "Secure and reliable password manager, if you don't mind some slightly dated aesthetics"

April 15, 2026

4.0

Overall it gets the core functions right; it's secure and reliable and proves to be excellent value for money - the free tier really helping to drive this point home; providing essential password management capability that doesn't hide essential functionality behind paid tiers. The interface does feel slightly dated though, and in this day and age where all apps are boasting crisp, polished GUIs, this is only exacerbated. it doesn't try to compete on additional features or fancy extras, but instead places more weight on steady and reliable function; as an IT professional this is a common tradeoff and one that I would happily choose over feature-bloated solutions that seem to cater to more markets, but provide less depth in doing so.

Pros

Bitwarden is a strong competitor for password management solutions. It's secure, syncs across multi platforms, and great value via free tier or paid. Most of the fundamental features can be accessed via their free tier; including syncing across devices, complex password generation, autofilling credentials and secure notes. Amongst its crowning features you can find MFA support, passkeys and credential breach/leak monitoring to ensure you keeping on top of any potential security threats - although this feature is usually only for paying customers. it's a versatile tool that can be used for more complex setups, such as balancing personal and professional profiles and 'shared vaults' for credential sharing. A great addition is the support for local hosting for any that worry about the reliability of online platforms, or simply want to have sovereignty over their own data. To this extent however, the software is open source, which is a great plus for transparency and user trust.

Cons

The interface can sometimes feel unpolished or less intuitive to those that are new to the software; comparing against some other paid solutions can feel like you are missing that 'premium' finish found in alternatives. The free tier is a great way to get started and removes barriers to entry, however this also means that some of the nicer 'bells and whistles' require a subscription. The focus on bitwarden seems to lean towards functionality over presentation, which is a great tradeoff - especially from a tech background - however can definitely be a deciding feature for more casual users when deciding on which solution to go with. It can definitely come across as minimalistic when compared to other solutions that offer buckets of additional features, snap-ins and add-ons; such as VPN clients or credential/breach monitoring.

Lastpass is often the first and most popular solution that is presented when approaching this topic, however having worked in IT for some years I am aware of their unfortunate history of having experienced significant data breaches/hacks in 2022, 2015 and 2011. This is what tips the scale towards Bitwarden personally.

### "Very confusing for set up and use"

May 13, 2024

2.0

Very, very frustrating. Also disappointed because I had invested a fair amount of time comparing different password managers and thought this one would work. Instead it turned into a huge waste of time.

Pros

That it was free - I appreciate that at least I did not lose money when I deleted my account.

Cons

User interface, help, instructions, etc. very hard to follow for beginner. It was difficult getting started, and I never could find a satisfactory answer on why there are both a web app and a browser extension. There are also mobile and desktop apps. I could not tell if we needed all of the apps installed, and if not, why would we have desktop, web, and extension all on same computer?

### "Superb password manager"

February 14, 2026

5.0

Superb product and the best password manager as of writing this review. It beats every competition in terms of features offered on free version.

Pros

This is my go to password management software with autofill for smoother login experience across multiple websites. Information is secure yet easy to access anywhere in multiple devices.

Cons

Mobile phone experience may be a bit weaker less support on feature such as autofill for website logins.

### "Great password manager, great support, with some minor flaws"

October 30, 2025

4.0

We demoed Bitwarden at work to use for IT and eventually roll out to other departments. I love it for IT, we moved off of Keepass on to it. We were self-hosting the Keepass database and realized that if we had an infrastructure outage we would be missing all our passwords. The sales process was easy, setup was easy and didn't require interaction with support. When I have needed to reach out to support, they have been quick to respond and very helpful.

Pros

Customer support has been very good, decent amount of integrations. Getting a family plan to use at home was a plus for me, though not the selling point. Passkey support, ToTP code support(!), custom fields are easy to add, integration with Simple Login for creating throwaway usernames when signing up. They have an extension for Edge Mobile on Android!

Cons

The integration with Simple Login disappears and I have to set it back up. I eventually gave up on this piece. Sometimes it just refuses to work with certain sites and I have to copy/paste. On mobile, when the password field is only shown after entering username on a site, the app will be "helpful" and copy the ToTP code for that login to my clipboard but I have to overwrite my clipboard to get my password for the site THEN get the ToTP code, which is an annoyance. Extension for Edge Mobile on Android is always locked and tapping to unlock never works. You have to pull up the actual extension to unlock it. This may be Google/Microsoft's fault, I don't know, but still annoying. Collections are not the best for management. I still like a Folder structure rather than a Collection. If you create a new "folder" inside a collection you are actually creating a new Collection and need to assign rights to it again, it doesn't inherit.

### "User friendly"

October 24, 2025

5.0

Overall, Bitwarden has been fantastic. I've used a multitude of password managers in the past and Bitwarden is by far the easiest to use and manage.

Pros

It's easy to work, easy to manage, easy to do just about anything. A great product for me and for my customers. My customers really enjoy this product, as well.

Cons

My customers utilize EntraID groups and when trying to add/remove/edit users, there's no way for admins to sync Bitwarden with EntraID to make sure the users are removed/added/edited.

### "Bitwarden if great"

Have had a great experience. Support is helpful when you need them. The articles online are helpful as well.

Pros

Cons

### "Great Onboarding and Customer Support"

October 6, 2025

5.0

Excellent. I had some questions in the beginning and my Channel Manager gave me some great best practice recommendations; she even jumped on a call with me to review my questions. I also attended a few webinars. Support is very quick to respond to questions, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.

Pros

New user of Bitwarden, but so far it has been pretty easy to roll out to our team and Support has been EXCELLENT! I also like that our company subscription allows users to setup Bitwarden Families. It's a nice additional company benefit that we can offer.

Cons

Not a con, but with our Vault we are using a lot of Custom Fields, and I would like the ability to make that a template so I don't have to create every field manually for every client. It was a bit of a heavy lift for me in the beginning to setup. I asked about a template for this and was told it has been added as a feature request. It's nice that they accept feedback.

Excellent. Much better than my experience with my previous product.

Pros

### "Toss out your little black book and move to the future"

October 10, 2022

5.0

Overall its a great password manager, I install either the app or a browser add-on onto each of my devices and any new site I create a password for is automatically synced. The ability to easily share passwords with friends, family or colleagues is also a big plus. Its amazing how often I jump on a site and bitwarden tells me I already have a password, that saves me so much time because with several hundred passwords its hard to remember what all I do and don't have passwords for.

Pros

The fact that I have 300+ passwords and no longer have to keep an excel spreadsheet, use redundant passwords or keep a little black book around. I can access my passwords from any device connected to the internet through a web browser, app or widget.

Cons

Overall Bitwarden is great, the biggest challenge I have run into over the course of several implementations is teaching people the new workflow to creating passwords. I wouldn't say its a downfall of the software so much as trying to kick the bad habits most people have.

Alternatives considered

[LastPass](https://www.capterra.com/p/151988/LastPass/)

Reason for choosing Bitwarden

Price was a big factor, but overall I wasn't happy with how LastPass tried to move existing features behind new paywalls. They essentially promised the world for free and then after they got you hooked started charging lots of money hoping you were too invested to switch. Bitwarden has all of the same features for a lot less money and seems to be more focused on product development then the bottom line.

### "The best free password manager out there"

January 17, 2023

4.0

It's easy to use, easy to onboard with such an important feature (password management) and at the same time extremely cost-efficient.

Pros

BitWarden is free, and has the ability to allow you to self-host it in your own premises. This is a feature a lot of password managers do not give. It's usually either local or on their cloud. Bitwarden is the only one that allow you to host it locally on-premise.

Cons

The UI is a little dated and not as polished. Using it is also a little bit wonky, having a separate plugin and the standalone software is a bit confusing too.

### "The best password manager I've used by a wide margin"

September 9, 2021

5.0

I use Bitwarden many times a day, every day, for various applications (password generation, storage, filling, etc), and it just works for every application. Can't recommend it strongly enough!

Pros

Bitwarden has a clean interface, it's super simple to use, it's open-source, it's free, it never tries to pressure you into upgrading, it syncs beautifully across all kinds of devices, and it integrates great with Android's autofill feature.

I've been using Bitwarden for several years across many devices and it's always been a nice, simple experience. I only need

Pros

I love the fact that Bitwarden is free and open-source. It makes it very easy to recommend to friends and family since there's no cost involved in setting up.

Cons

Until recently, the browser extension felt a little dated in its appearance. When recommending Bitwarden to some friends, it was one of the first things they commented on and it nearly put them off wanting to install it. ### "The Only Password Manager You Should Be Using"

June 17, 2021

5.0

I have nothing but great things to say about Bitwarden. I have tried many password managers and while most I tried were usable, they didn't feel complete, either because of the feature set or because of the pricing. Once I found Bitwarden, I haven't wanted to look anywhere else since.

Pros

\-Price -Features I mean, those are really the two main points people look for when determining their password manager, right? The price is unbeatable; if you're just using it for yourself, it's free. Free gets you every creature comfort feature you would pay top dollar for elsewhere, such as multi-device syncing and apps across all of your devices. The features are second to none. They have everything you would get from Lastpass and more. The interface is also top-notch. Lastpass is a jumbled nightmare after you've used Bitwarden. I also installed Bitwarden on mobile and it works flawlessly and is such a lifesaver. The other major thing to point out is that it's open source, meaning that it's more secure than most as it's audited by other regularly, unlike Lastpass where ne'er-do-wells want to break in, coding saints look over you when you're using Bitwarden.

Cons

Honestly? Nothing. Even if you need to pay for their premium packages, they're dirt cheap, coming in at $10/year for an individual or $40/year for 6 people.
