I've been using it at my job now for several years and it's outstanding. Pros Very easy to install and understand, there's lots of posted content to help you on YouTube and Reddit as well. It also makes use of ZFS file system which is even more verbose than the old-school RAID array way of storing your data. It was also very easy to integrate a NAS to store backups to it, and backup and restore actions are super easy. As is automating nightly backups. As is installing monthly Proxmox Server updates, there's literally a few buttons you click in the web ui and you are up to date. I pay extra for the subscription for updates because this service has proven itself very useful to us. There's also services in it I haven't started using yet like the ability to automate offloading a VM to another Node if there's a need for it's primary Node to go down. Cons If you haven't done any work with virtual machines before, there's a learning curve for sure, but it's worth learning if you want to add any free or cheap virtual machines to your Organization or internally to your department. Clustering and HA is awesome, even for smaller node deployments. Cons The learning curve is steep when coming from another platform such as VMWare ESXI, but once you get the hang of it is easy. The Best thing about is it's Open Source with a lot's of feature Cons Overall Proxmox is really great! and super easy to use its have Turnkey templates and many more things and easy to setup. I have suggestion for this VE. If something like this is implemented, such as when Proxmox is installed in a container, the display that appears on it shows only the terminal. However, if something like this is done, where that display is removed and the displays of virtual machines are used instead, then I think this would be the best thing ever to exist. I mean, I know I can control it from the web, but if the display of the virtual machine is shown on the default monitor, then this would be a unique feature in itself. Almost everything can be handled with the web interface and with automatic backups - I never have to worry about losing data. Cons Whenever I'm setting up a container or VM for a small service, such as dynamic DNS or VPN, it feels like I'm doing the same system setup tasks over and over again. This can partially be solved by creating your own templates, however, it would be nice to have such basic templates provided by Proxmox or the community, with single click-deploys in the web interface. Pros We like the pricing and possibilities of proxmox. In comparison to the competition it’s a no brainer as it does everything that the competition does but on a lower price point. Cons We had a lot of trouble debugging ceph as it was not functioning properly and crashing nodes. I recommend for fast development and deployment software please use proxmox VE Pros Proxmox runs very smoothly, with a lot of community support, the main important thing is it can build the cluster server infrastructure, and support snapshot backup inside, also the fastest provision VM is the container is powerful for development and the general user. The simple dashboard is easy to use and configure, it works on any kind of server/brand Cons some features still use the command line so must be familiar with command-line Linux too especially Debian because proxmox uses Debian. Pros i love it that you can customise the vm to your needs , easy to add networks and even to create a full local network ( dhcp , private lans , firewall with port forward to local ip's ... ) it was easy to do it once you know how and after you setup the networks correcty so for a big network with a single public ip is this a nice software Cons the complicated setup part, fill in a wrong ip on the network adapter and you can not access it anymore the setup in my case needed a USB drive ... just to get some functions working and it was a nightmare to install it on a usb drive ( grub bootloader ) so it can access the disks with out the build in raid controller ( HBA mode ) also the speed is extreem slow if you boot from usb, so you got stuck with slow vm's even if you use Ceph for disk recovery/speed Review source Non-incentivized review: any software user can leave a review for any product listed on our site.
