Cons I would like it noted more that Carousel on Apple TV doesn't support video streaming. March 11, 2025 3.0 After months of trying to get the product to work for us, in the end we cancelled the subscription as there were too many issues. Pros The system had a quick response time, it was easy to account for overscan, and it notified when a player was down. Cons It was difficult for teachers to use with the various zoning options, and it wouldn't properly power on the BrightSign players. Definitely willing to recommend to anyone looking for a signage product, especially when trying to improve company morale and cohesion. Pros Extremely easy to run once you get it going, swapping slides in and out works smoothly, setup on our Apple TVs was great and continues to work well. We use it for everything from announcements about important topics like health insurance enrollment to fun things like birthdays, and it handles both ends and looks great. Cons Some early initial issues related to slides not appearing or disappearing when scheduled, but was able to resolve after coordinating with Carousel's support team. If we have questions, support quickly answers them. The beginning process was great, just learning about the system and having a free trial. They even recommended a local shop for us to borrow BrightSign devices for the trial. Pros Carousel is very easy to use. I love that I am able to upload content remotely at any time and then schedule the content. One less thing I have to worry about Cons There isn't much, but maybe the compatibility, and having to purchase a BrightSign Device, which is expensive for us. Pros Great media type support and ease of use. The minimalist setup with an Apple TV is fantastic. The user interface is easy to use, and the finished product looks great! Cons Can't use a username and password to access content that is not public. Keeps us from being able to point to certain content on an intranet, for example. Having spoken with many other users on the platform they all have similar feelings. It works, it works well and it is very intuitive for the end users. We have about 200 displays with about 50 users in the platform and there have been no complaints. Pros After reviewing about 7 content management systems for digital signage a few years ago, Carousel stood out on many levels. Ease of use: It's easy to drive after a short introduction. Enterprise needs: Role management, security, SSO, CAP emergency message integration, and more. Customer service and responsiveness: Carousel has an excellent and very responsive customer success team and their engineering group responds to service issues (there are few) feature requests in good fashion. The product is priced right for the market. Cons Least is a difficult term. Carousel is not the "flashiest" product on the market. They began to add a number of new integrations in 2024 and have expanded their player options greatly after a period of time adjusting their service level options for client. Pros I appreciate that once you have it configured and running, it's very solid. Any outage or downtime has been the result of a hardware player going offline, not Carousel's service being unavailable. Support is friendly, knowledgable and expedient. Cons Our use case is pretty simple - we have some full screen videos that we display on a number of TVs 24/7. I find that the admin dashboard is overly complicated in the context of how we use Carousel. Zones, channels, hubs, etc., it's all a bit much for me. Easy to deploy and configure. Users can have full control, limited control, or anywhere in between. Pros Carousel Software has all the features we wanted in Digital Signage. The ability to deploy content to hundreds of displays at once is great. The approval feature that allows other users to create slides that are not live until approved by an admin is invaluable. The limitless number of templates and widgets keeps our content fresh and innovative. We can create content now and have it scheduled to play in the future. Can't say enough about how well this platform works in the corporate environment. Cons Only minor issue that I would like see addressed is the addition of better tutorials. It would be nice if I could hover over a tool or feature and get a video box that describes that feature. Would also be great if Carousel University was available to all for free. The training was well done and informative. The design staff was super helpful in getting our initial channels set up as well. Pros My district loves that you can customize for screens in different areas (reaching students, parents, or staff). It has given us a great way to communicate our district and campus 'good news' and information. I especially like that we can have a consistent brand, but still have individuality shown on each campus. It is easy to bring new devices online and get them up and running quickly. Cons There are some features like RSS feeds that are still giving us issues. I wish the training videos were available for longer. Reason for choosing Carousel We are using Apple TVs to implement our signage, and JAMF Pro as our device management system. Consistently, we were told that Carousel was the clear choice to go with, and they have integrated seamlessly. December 7, 2020 5.0 This product is good to work with, once you get some hands-on experience. However our problem is the cost. It is way too expensive to use in a school district for providing signage in all classrooms plus common areas. It has become where we cannot justify the cost. I started with a 10 license pilot 2 years ago, and it's caught on to the point where we now have 22 licenses and growing. Pros The web interface allows me to work on the signage from any location. The ability to add start and end dates/times is very helpful - I can set up a bulletin to start and stop when I want and then forget about it. The ability to have calendar feeds based on web sites is also very helpful. Finally, using Apple TVs and JAMF device management software allows me to quickly get a sign up and running, and locks the Apple TV into just the Carousel app so no one can change what's being shown.
