### "RMS/Mercury Goes Above and Beyond!"

Our overall experience with Mercury is so superb because of the support team at RMS. From quarterly calls to the yearly user conference, the team at RMS is really the driving force behind a great experience. The team is always willing and able to assist in brainstorming, system support and troubleshooting, or really any other support you would need with Mercury, at any given time. This level of support truly shows the clients that they are cared for and that attention to detail is really appreciated - especially in the business of higher education where things are always changing!

Pros

Mercury is continuously proving that it is one of the best housing software systems in the business. Between the functionality and the ease of use, Mercury makes daily higher education housing tasks a breeze to complete. Over the last few years, the team at Mercury has worked very hard to increase functionality to the system from older versions, and with their latest upgrade, there have been much-needed improvements for people who complete daily tasks in housing, conference, meal plan, and student facing web designs.

Cons

The con to Mercury would be subject to everyone. For our institution, the pre-loaded options for the software do not apply to our business practices, so we work with the team at RMS to make changes and updates that fit our needs. The pre-loaded options could be helpful for some, but they do not apply for our institution.

### "You Get A Lot for What You Pay For, and You Pay A Lot for What You Get!"

We have been able to incorporate a number of processes into Mercury that used to be housed in multiple areas. We now use Mercury for Move-in timeslots, integrate the check-in functionality with Persona to activate room access according to who has actually arrived, can bill multiple residents for a single item type rather than one at a time. The ability to send out correspondence through Mercury is remarkable, and the ability to schedule that correspondence is a game changer. Overall, Mercury is a fantastic product, and can do what we need it to do. Learning takes time, and is not always easy when you are also keeping up with the day-to-day.

Pros

The reporting functionality is the most impressive feature. One of the tasks that had previously daunted my team was having to always provide information for other areas within our department. Now, the information is in Mercury, and staff are able to data mine what they need to do their jobs more efficiently. Of course, there are times when the nature of the report requires additional help. Mercury is very robust, and does so much more than we what we currently use it for.

Cons

Mercury does exactly what you tell it to do, and nothing else. It does not always do how you want something done, which does require either an adjustment to your existing business practice or forces you to create a totally different process. It is not always a bad thing to have to reexamine how things are done, but there are still some things which must be done a certain way. Not a big fan of having the data for cancelled assignments disappear from a student's record. Sure, you can go back into the logs to find it, but you cannot construct a roster of who was was assigned on a given day if the assignment was cancelled. This has proven to be especially challenging during COVID-19.

We were moving from a home-grown legacy platform, and after considering the other products, RMS provided the most consistent transition for our business practice. We have been with RMS for 16 years, and have stayed with RMS from RMS 5.0 through RMS Mercury 4.0.

My overall experience with Mercury has been exceedingly pleasant. Mercury is simple and efficient to use. I love how if I am looking for information about a student's housing plan, I can quickly find it. Mercury customer service is always very easy to work with as well. For the price, Mercury has a lot of options and flexibility. Overall, my experience with Mercury has been a very enjoyable one.

Pros

I am a college student employed by Northwest Missouri State University and I have to use Mercury every day to handle students' housing information and meal plans. I love how simple it is. Everything is laid out in a manner that is easy to use. Mercury makes items easy to find. It is also easy to edit when there needs to be changes to a student's account. Mercury is also efficient. There are a small amount of buttons that need to be pushed when you are trying to navigate to a location within Mercury, making it easy to find answers to students' questions quickly.

Cons

What I like least about Mercury is how it is difficult to batch tasks. Sometimes, I want to apply the same application to twenty students. It is possible to do this, but it is very difficult. It is easier to manually enter the application to each student's account.

### "RMS Mercury review"

The RMS team are extremely supportive and respond quickly to support needs. There is an annual international and an annual UK conference which users can attend and is great for sharing ideas and to see what's coming in future iterations. This year, Mercury's support in response to managing Covid was unquestionable and they provided features which proved to be business critical and we always on hand to help if needed. Mercury offer quarterly Client Calls in which teams can discuss anything Mercury related. There is a user community and eg Templates can be shared between users - I tend to find that if there's an issue, somebody else has previous experience of it and so making contact within the community save users from recreating something that already exists.

Pros

I began my relationship with RMS Mercury as a user and quickly discovered that it was far more than just a tool for booking students in and out of their room. Mercury is a versatile system, easy for an end user who isn't from an IT background to understand, customise to suit the needs of our students and our business processes and comes with an inbuilt suite of reports, as well as being able to build my own in house reports. Implementation of the system was pretty straight forward - our IT team supported the technical side of implementation - Test and Production environments suit our business needs and I like the fact that it's so easy to build in test and export into Production.

Cons

There isn't anything that I don't particularly like about Mercury. There are a few tweaks that I understand are being worked on within the system after users have fed back to developers such as some of the aggregate functionality on some of the reports, and moving a few features around just to ease eg scrolling but such issues are fairly minor - again RMS are receptive to user ideas.

### "RMS/Mercury - Excellent Support"

RMS/Mercury is an awesome system that does exactly what you want a housing management system to do. There are a lot of systems out there that I am sure are great, but if you do not have the support behind you, it's not so great. You have to be able to use the product to it's potential and that what the support system does at RMS. It seems like every year there is something specific that comes up and we have to figure out new ways in Mercury. This past year when COVID-19 hit, they were having meetings and helping schools collaborate different ways to do checkouts, billings, etc. It is unbelievable the "hands on" customer service you get with RMS/Mercury. Mercury is more than just a housing management system because of their expertise staff, support, and customer service. I cannot say enough about the Administration, Trainers, Implementation People, IT, and Support Staff.

Pros

Mercury is very user-friendly for the every day user needs. What is best is the about the system is the support. Whether it something simple like forgetting a process you only do twice a year or a whole new process that you are changing or creating, they are there for you. There are many ways to do things in Mercury and every school does things differently, the support staff is always willing to show and discuss new and different ways trying to help with your process. They actually encourage you and have set up appointments quarterly to go over anything new or anything you may want to go over. At first I was hesitant to use the support. I thought it was mainly for big issues. I would spend a day trying to figure something out, then once I did reach out to them, they were awesome and seem to enjoy helping and explaining. I no longer wait. I email right away and they always respond promptly with the willingness to help.We are a small school and I do not have a lot of people to bounce things off of, their help and support has been the best thing about their product.

Cons

I do not believe there is anything specific that I do not like about the system. The initial integration and all of the upgrades have all gone very smooth. The training on the new upgrades have been excellent. There are still things I am learning in the system. When we upgraded to Mercury 3, there was a lot of new procedures. It was a great improvement, however, I wanted to learn and do it all. It was almost too much. We had to slow down and we only implements part of the new things and then added things gradually. It is so nice that you can go at your on pace. For example, if you want to use the inspection piece of the program, you can. If you do not, you can wait until your staff is familiar with the system , then add it.

### "The Service Makes All the Difference"

We have been able to streamline various typical processes of student housing such as; assigning students to rooms, room check-in, inspection and check-out, room selection, cancellations. We have also reduced paper tremendously! Beside the typical functions, we have been able to utilize features to address other departmental needs; like guest approval processes, arrival and departure, appointment scheduling, educational and informational templates with quizzes to verify knowledge acquisition. The greatest benefit, by far, is the great staff who are always willing to help you with a process, or problem- in addition to basic customer support. The attention given to clients is extraordinary. We have great hands-on, customized training and continued support as we learn new features of the software.

Pros

The complete customization ability in the software has been wonderful. We are able to design the look, functions and features that are most beneficial to our processes and for our students. When we have a idea and don’t know how to implement, Mercury staff readily work with us to strategize and develop what we have envisioned. Basic built-in features offered great functionality on the staff-facing side of the platform for our needs as we learned enough to customize processes specifically for us. There is a learning curve to get accustomed to the software, but the features are pretty simple to learn and utilize.

Cons

Although I love the ability to customize, it is very time consuming to have to customize everything on the user-facing functions as there are not any built-in templates available. This is also challenging for a small staff wearing many hats without our own dedicated technology staff or marketing staff in terms of developing pages with visual appeal.

The ability to create new functions and processes is great as it allows you to have a platform tailored to your business and customers. The team offers great support and provides in-depth training every time when they implement new features. The more you use the system, the better you'll get, so don't be afraid to explore new ways of doing things. Mercury will help you say goodbye to spreadsheets and help you track all of your activity online in just a few clicks.

Pros

We love that the system provides students with the ability to self-select their accommodation, instead of submitting a form and waiting for a member of staff to manually process it. This has been a game-changer for the team, as it not only reduces the daily workload, but it also provides students with the power to have a unique booking experience. Each member of staff can have a custom role in the system and see only areas that are relevant to their role, which makes training new staff very easy and offers additional security around the data you store. The system is very visual and intuitive and offers great functions, such as scheduled reports or correspondence; conditional steps providing tailored experience; and loads of custom fields!

Cons

You need to ensure all areas of your housing buildings are well categorised and correctly profiled - which could be time-consuming. The system has been designed around SQL and you might need help from your IT team or the Mercury support team when wanting to design new functions. Mercury offers you so much flexibility to tailor the system that sometimes you can get carried away with too many ambitions projects - but the Mercury team is always there to explore new ideas and help!

### "Mercury is a Game-Changer in College Housing Software"

Outstanding! We were intrigued with Mercury 1 with it's ability to customize how contracts and applications work. In Mercury 2 we were amazed with how floor plans can be mapped and hyperlinked to allow students to pick their room by clicking on the space of their choice. Mercury 3 brought a wide range of new capabilities by letting us create templates for just about any process we could think of. We thought we had everything we needed, then they gave us Mercury 4. WOW!!! Conditional processes, custom entities, Mercury Conference, and so much more. We are even encouraged to share solutions between schools. If one school creates a new form/process, we have the ability to share it with each other so the next school doesn't have to create it. This product is innovative, creative, and intuitive. The team at RMS is amazing to work with. I simply can't say enough good things!

Pros

Mercury's best feature is it's flexibility. We use it for so many things it wasn't originally intended to do. Student staff hiring (applications and interview processes), student employee data management, volunteer sign-ups, checking in/out equipment, package management, lockouts, and more. If you can dream it, you can build it and that's the key... YOU BUILD IT! Mercury comes with out of the box solutions, but also provides the tools to build new processes with ZERO additional cost.

Cons

The only downside about the flexibility Mercury offers is the sheer volume of things you can customize. You can literally customize anything. It can sometimes be challenging to keep track of how much there is and what you can do. I don't have formal technology training, but serve as the system administrator and had to spend a lot of time with the system to fully master it. It's not hard, it's just the volume of it. But the final product is simply awesome!

### "Outstanding Mercury Housing System"

Overall, I find the Mercury product outstanding and has proven to be a useful tool to help streamline processes and improve efficiency in many ways. As a Mercury user I have been able to learn and develop new skills such as report writing, template building, workflow building, business communication via correspondence, and it gives me the opportunity to be creative and find new ways to provide the best possible experience and outcome for our on-campus students. I look forward to upgrading to 4.0 next year!

Pros

I am currently on Mercury Housing module 3.2.7. As a housing assignments coordinator and user of the mercury product I found it very user friendly, easy to navigate, and quickly learned the functionality. I easily adapted to building student and staff facing templates using the easy template builder function in Mercury. I really like the flexibility and found several ways to customize templates and use those from everything from student facing questionnaires, housing selection processes, maintenance requests, just to name a few. Workflow works great for the student facing maintenance requests from our on-campus residents. Also, to be able to create and send ad hoc email correspondence and ability to look up correspondence history has been beneficial.

Cons

The Easy Report writer was easy to learn and it's great to be able to customize those reports for our Residence Life staff's needs. However, I am not a SQL expert and Telerik Advanced Report writer is not the easiest tool that I have attempted to use. RMS staff are a wonderful resource and have provided some great advanced reports delivered with the product. I am really grateful to RMS for providing support!

### "I love Mercury"

When I first started in Housing over 15 years ago, every process was on paper and very cumbersome. The University had just purchased RMS and the system and I sort of grew up together. It has been exciting and gratifying to see cumbersome processes become easy. Mercury gives us the flexibility to run our processes as they best work for us while also giving us the option to observe "best practices" to see if our processes can be modified even more.

Pros

Mercury has revolutionized how we handle our housing processes. The current national climate with COVID presented challenges we were not expecting. The flexibility and ease of use of the Mercury product was extremely helpful in allowing us to quickly develop processes we never thought we would have to develop. We were able to move almost everything from paper to online. The students find it easy to use and our paraprofessional staff likes the no paper part. The support from RMS on this product is phenomenal. Even the smallest, silliest question is answered promptly and professionally. The RMS staff is always friendly and considerate. They take the time to completely answer any questions and explain the answer in a way that is easy to understand.

Cons

Each upgrade of this product makes things a little easier, however, in the beginning, some of the processes were confusing because I am definitely not a "techie". However, with the help of the RMS staff who patiently talked me through processes and helped me understand them, I was able to build processes that are easy for our staff and students to use.

### "Easy to Use, Intuitive"

Pros

It's hard to pick one thing so I will share a few. Mercury is so easy to pick up and use even when you have no experience in this software or any housing software. One of the biggest benefits is how customizable Mercury is, you can make it fit your institution. If you dream it you can pretty much make it happen. I also love that there's a User forum, conference, and Exec board. It's so easy to be able to share what your institution is doing with the software, see how others are using it, or be able to ask questions or bounce ideas off of others. Mercury

Cons

I really like Mercury, but the thing I have liked the least was having to plan for a week of down time from when we upgraded from Mercury 2 to Mercury 3, and then having to plan for a few down days with upgrading from Mercury 3 to Mercury 4. Like many, we have a very busy calendar with so many things that live within Mercury that it can be very difficult to find a week where we wouldn't need access to Mercury when everything revolves around it.

Overall, our experience using Mercury has been fantastic! It has allowed us to retire many of our reports from Crystal Reports, create a Resident Assistant and Desk Attendant application process, allow students to self-assign into spaces, manage an Emotional Support Animal process (with photos!), and so much more. I can't recommend the product enough!

Pros

Mercury allows us to customize reports for our staff, processes for our students, and allows us to easily allow other folks on campus to view information that is easily customizable to what they need to see. Mercury has so many great functions - scheduled tasks, self-assign, fee assessment, menu management, load and apply excel, roommate groups, custom entities, conditional steps/emails within a process, and instagrids with row actions.

Cons

A feature that I think could be improved upon would be using Telerik to design reports. Mercury does provide several Mercury based reports to use right out of the box, however, it is difficult to edit these or create new ones as most of our users on the back end find it to be not user-friendly. That being said, instagrids are a wonderful way to still publish the information for those who need it and may not necessarily care about the look of a report.

I have been personally working with Mercury for about 3.5 years and have really enjoyed my experience with the system. Our department had only used basic functionality before I took over the position and after my first visit to RMS World, I decided to make a lot of changes to the system regarding custom processes and trying to utilize all features and aspects of the system to make a central hub of information for our department.

Pros

I like the ability to customize processes directly for our use. Both for student and staff use. It is a very easy system for students and staff to learn, yet complicated enough to allow for exactly what we want to use it for.

Cons

Mercury is written in SQL for advanced filters and reports. For those unfamiliar with that coding, you must rely heavily on the support team to figure out exactly what information you are trying to pull. Not many staff members have any experience with SQL.

It has been an incredibly positive experience. The program has almost always done what I have needed, and the customer service has always been there when I have needed to help to get around when it doesn't.

Pros

I personally like the ease of use and customization available in the program. I am able to build and create almost everything that I need with the basic provided.

Cons

Sometimes when information can't be carried over when building something from different tables. Example, when creating a dynamic list, if it is based on Applications, I can't pull in all of my Profile fields. I understand the the coding reasons why, but still frustrating for me building it. Then for the user side when I have to try and explain why that doesn't work when it seems "so easy/simple" from their point of view. Also sometimes I wish the wiki was bit more fleshed out, but that isn't part of the actual software.

I've been able to use this software creatively to do just about everything that's asked of our business processes by the shareholders and stakeholders.

Pros

Map-based self-assign. Conditional, cascading, choose-your-own adventure templates. Logging. Customizable options. Users group for support, and a robust support team.

Cons

Learning curve. Terrible reporting software. Must know SQL to be effective and javascript can be helpful. Expensive.

We love working with Mercury. Many of my custom applications that we have had to use in the past because earlier versions didn't have some of the functionality that we needed are now built into Mercury.

Pros

Customizing the entire product to meet our particular look and feel. You can create forms (templates) that give the end user a great experience.

Cons

I can't really think of any real cons other than I'd like to see more customizable logic on each page of the template. But, with the latest version even this con as minimal.

Pros

I like how customizable Mercury is. Every school is different and every housing department runs differently. Mercury has done an great job at having all the main elements available, but being able to uniquely develop our system to meet our own individual housing needs.

Cons

There is a learning curve when learning any new software. I am not a super tech savvy person, so it took me a bit to truly understand how it works. I am still learning, but I also think even "super users" are still learning about the software.

Pros

I feel that this product is so easy to use. Within days, I was able to work with ease. I recommend this product to everyone!!.

### "Customize with ease"

Pros

The customizations this tool offers is fantastic. We are able to keep our business process preferences intact as desired and make the tool work for us. Normally customizations cause issues during upgrades, however, in my experience upgrades have gone extremely smooth. I have no fear in venturing away from "out-of-the-box" configurations.

Cons

As Mercury has progressed through its versions, the cons list keeps getting smaller. RMS listen's to its users and actively works to release features of use to their clients.
