### "Made my design works very easy"

August 13, 2021

5.0

Currently SketchUp is the best software for 3D modelling which is equipped with loads of features which are unavailable in alternative software. And requiring low performance while working very smooth is great. Some complications will occur if you do complex designs but for general purposes this is the best. Can be used even by a beginner without facing issues.

Pros

I needed to design several buildings and used SketchUp to create a 3D model. Before I used SketchUp I thought 3D modelling was hard but with SketchUp, model was done easily and was able to experience how it would look after construction. And with 3D warehouse feature I was able to create very realistic simulation making the design process quite easier. Even as a beginner SketchUp was simple and effective tool. Got many tools to help users in modelling. Best feature is in SketchUp is walk around option which will give real life simulation how the final design will be. Also SketchUp got great plugins which will save both time and money of a designer. With 3D warehouse and extension warehouse a user can build any design using very little effort. What makes SketchUp the best 3D design software is unlike any alternative is ability to run smoothly in any computer. Most CAD software require a high-end computers with high performance system but SketchUp works fine in just any mediocre laptop.

Cons

Using SketchUp through browser was lagging and very slower compared with installed version. And I faced issues with gaps in walls and floors if you meddle with it few times. Also SketchUp need to upgrade to create complex designs because presently it's hard to do so.

Switched from

[AutoCAD](https://www.capterra.com/p/265024/AutoCAD/)

SketchUp was very user friendly in 3D modelling and had many predesigned model which saved lot of time working as a designer.

### "All models can be realized with SketchUp"

October 17, 2022

4.0

Very good and also fun. Because I can make various models in one software, and to make cost calculations in architectural development that I make in SketchUp without having to leave the UI itself.

Pros

Very easy to use, uncomplicated in UI appearance, and availability of various features that continue to grow in it.

Cons

Sometimes SketchUp is too dependent on add-ons or extensions, making it not completely ready to use.

Alternatives considered

[Blender](https://www.capterra.com/p/167519/Blender/)[AutoCAD](https://www.capterra.com/p/265024/AutoCAD/)

Reason for choosing SketchUp

Easier and simple UI and can be customized to my liking.

### "Needs fixes!"

July 1, 2024

3.0

Not bad, needs improvement. Once all the fixes are done, will be okay.

Pros

Not complicated for simple drawings. Not too expensive.

Cons

It does not save your color changes in paint. If you create anything in that group it will be lost. You can be working on a drawing and you will get logged off and all your changes are lost.

### "Easy and Intuitive "

July 18, 2025

4.0

I used SketchUp a lot when I was in school and have used it quite a bit since then as well. It is super user friendly as it is both intuitive to use and has a lot of features. It is a great program and a great way to get into architectural design, especially the free version of the program.

Pros

It does what I want it to and has a large library of assets that can be loaded into it. It also exports into other programs verry well. Drawing and modeling are straight forward and easy to do.

Cons

Honestly I don't have anything negative to say about SketchUp. My biggest grievance is that the free version restricts certain features but that can be easily rectified buy purchasing the paid version which does everything you could want it to.

### "Sketchup and 3D Modelling"

August 4, 2025

5.0

The overall experience is fantastic. This is the software I started my journey in 3d modelling and it has been handy ever since. I can easily add and use plugins for various use. Also, the software update is getting better every time.

Pros

I use SketchUp for 3d Modelling. So, the ease of use is the main features that I like about SketchUp. Other thing is, it is easy to install and use plugins in this software. The true version of architectural design is visualized using this software.

Cons

I don't like having to use same command for different use. For example, you have to use M command for both moving and copying albeit you have to use control sign for copying. Still, if there were independent command for each use, it would have been so much easier like AutoCAD

### "Sketchup, a great modeling tool"

March 21, 2025

5.0

Use it constantly in my projects to model a portion of a build to convey that to the guys in the field.

Pros

Fast and easy to learn... plenty of assets in the 3d warehouse, plus tons of extensions (some free) that help expedite the process of producing a model.

Cons

Wish some of the third party "paid" extensions would be incorporated into the program itself, especially for the architectural / construction side of things. For instance, Medeek's extensions and Condoc extension... I think if they were to offer a version that was just for architecture with these extensions as part of that package it would go over well... so I don't have to manage 10 other subscriptions and when to renew them and what not.

It is a fun, easy to use and versatile program that is the perfect application for my profession.

Pros

It is user friendly, efficient and has a lot of different tools. Having used it for more than 5 years I've become proficient and are able to create interior design layouts with ease and efficiency.

Cons

It sometimes freezes when using it on Mac. I'm not sure how the experience differs on Microsoft but it can be frustrating when the program freezes on Mac (this would also depend of course on the spec of your computer)

Been using this product for 8 years now and it's always my go to for quick renderings.

Pros

It is quick to mock up to scale drawings. Easy to add color and use extensions to create realistic renderings. I've been trying out the new AI feature for renderings and working well.

Cons

How everything is a different plane and it doesn't work in complete forms like other programs. Makes editing a drawing difficult if you don't draw it completely right the first time.

### "One of the best developments in designing"

August 20, 2023

5.0

I use SketchUp personally for my freelancing work as well as in my profession as a planning civil Engineer. It is important that there are paying categories in this software so that I could use shop pricing plan for my personal business and studio pricing plan for the company. So far it has not disappointed me in designing with SketchUp. It is a good experience.

Pros

It is a very much user-friendly product compared to other products in design. Every design software needs a time to learn but by using SketchUp I personally save lots of time. As a construction company, we use outputs of this software to make a clear picture for the clients about the project. Importing and exporting data is very much friendly since it allows to import of data in various formats.

Cons

When it comes to animation, It is time-consuming to learn.

### "3d design for everybody"

April 17, 2017

5.0

1st time I heard about SKETCHUP was several years ago. I was looking for some fast sketching solution (preferable in 3d ) and search engine listed this program as near 1st position (and not a CAD). So, I clicked on the link and saw a fantastic piece of software. After some 8 or 9 years SKETCHUP is still on my computer. It's more poreful than several years before (form SKETCHUP 6, if I remember correctly), there are more materials, components and models (when 3d warehouse started it made a revolution of it's kind, enthusiast could show their models and companies could offer their products and services). Several things made me a follower/user of this program: simple to use, fast drawing, diferent type of finishing, cross-sections, user-friendly interface, diferent ways to achieve same results (by multyplaying or by dividing, by pulling or following,...), plenty of options and many special features that came during years. On of the first features was inserting a 3d object on GOOGLE EARTH (GOOGLE was a previous owner). That had a tremenduos effect and in short perid of time every city had many of landmarks made by SKETCHUP and inserted on maps. 3d warehouse was also an succesfull feature. Interesting feature, also, is "projection and perspective view". Changing this You can switch from "natural" 3d view to "geometrical" 3d view. This is MUST BE USED when You switch from designing to taking measures (hard to describe but imediately visible when used) Interesting feature, from a few version ago, is to match a photo. You simply load a photo (interior or exterior) and with help from program You model a 3d object, At the end You had a 3d model replica from photo with textures acquired from photo. If You are in real estate business, You understand what can be done regarding virtual demonstrations. Another nice feature is another warehouse - for extensions. With these addons You can have a completely different way of doing Your job, from drawing, designing or 3d printing. PRO version have some other usefull features that I like .DWG handling and several types of calculation, reporting (these are important part of my work with it) and exporting results. If You need a good sollution for 3d sketching, drawing or design, and You don't have time to learn a full CAD software this is software for You.

Pros

Simple tu use, fast drawing, starting 3d models and 3d warehouses, extensions, textures, importing of photos and materials, finishing, rendering options, drawing/sketching options, perspective changing, components and objects designing, friendly-used interface, cross-sections, active comunity,...

Cons

Many options are not visible or even expected. Without manual and (several) video tutorials many things that are simple to do You can't be done as they are not explained/offered. Switching axes sometimes is very irritating. Deleting a part of object sometimes cause un-expected results. Pushing/pulling sometimes cause small but irritating problems with surfaces.

### "Used to be more useful"

July 27, 2021

SketchUp was my first modeling software. I got really proficient at it and used to integrate it into my production workflow. Now, it is becoming obsolete.

Pros

User interface, capabilities especially for a low-barrier product

Cons

Phasing into expensive licensed software and phasing out of free version functionality. For those of us who have been using SketchUp since the beginning, it's a difficult adjustment especially when working in an industry where AutoDesk is becoming close to a monopoly with comparable tools

### "Great Design, Sell and Build Tool!"

May 5, 2022

5.0

My SketchUp has been great. The software is continually upgraded and getting better at handling larger models than it used to. We could not be without it in our business.

Pros

SketchUp plays an important role in the design, sales and construction of most of our high end residential landscape projects. The integration of SketchUp with DynaScape and Lumion make for an excellent lineup of tools that are crucial to our business. SketchUp's ease of use makes 3D modelling quick and as accurate as you like. 3D modelling makes selling projects much easier than 2D designs. The ability to then push the model into Layout makes creating construction details a breeze.

Cons

SketchUp's subscription method is not the easiest to use and can be a bit frustrating. It will log you out every once in a while and make you sign in. It used to not let you open newer version models but now it just warns you.

Reason for choosing SketchUp

SketchUp was the easiest and fastest 3D modelling tool to use at the time and I believe it still is.

### "Powerful 3D Modeling and CAD Options at a Variety of Price Points"

November 1, 2022

4.0

My overall experience with SketchUp has been a positive one. I've used it to translate my basic woodworking and house design concepts into quick mockups. Very useful for me for those purposes. What's more I can see the power and utility of the software (particularly the paid tiers) for those involved in even more complex and extensive modeling projects.

Pros

For me, the thing I like most about SketchUp is the ease of use and accessibility of the software (especially the free version) for people of all skill levels. I myself have had training in various pieces of CAD and 3D modeling software; however, most of these have such a high barrier to entry. Even with my knowledge and comfort in those systems, when I need to sketch something up quickly for a woodworking project or get a basic idea down on the page, SketchUp is often the quickest way to do it. It allows me to get an idea from my brain to the screen extremely rapidly so that I can test proof of concept and quickly work out any kinks in my initial conception. SketchUp Free has a great standard feature set (model library, shapes, fills, extrusions, etc.) that one would expect from any 3D modeling software. The paid tiers go even further by integrating powerful collaboration tools and cool features like weather/temperature modeling, etc. What's more, being able to export several different file types is useful if I want to take my ideas into another piece of software. All in all, SketchUp provides a powerful (and affordable) suite of options for all user types.

Cons

With all of SketchUp's benefits in mind, sometimes its streamlined nature can be a bit of an impediment to translating ideas to "paper." Some my difficulty in this regard is owing to my primary experience in AutoCAD--the interface is just different enough that some basics are counterintuitive (to me). That said, with time and experience in the software, I was able to overcome my initial stumbles. One other potential issue to keep in mind is the fact that SketchUp Free is limited in the types of export formats it provides. To gain access to some of the more universal or software-specific file types, it is necessary to upgrade to a paid tier.

Reason for choosing SketchUp

I chose SketchUp because of its ease of use and low price (at the free tier).

### "A User-Friendly 3D Modeling Tool "

March 27, 2023

5.0

As someone who has used Sketchup for several years, including as a student and professor teaching it for landscape architecture and architecture, I can say that my experience with the software has been mostly positive. One of the things I appreciate most about Sketchup is its user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to learn and use even for those with little to no experience in 3D modeling. The software's tools are intuitive and allow users to create accurate and detailed models quickly. The Warehouse feature is also a great asset, as it provides access to a vast library of pre-made 3D models that can be used in designs, saving time and effort in the modeling process. However, I have found that Sketchup can be limited in its ability to handle large-scale projects or complex models, particularly when it comes to working with vegetation or other natural elements that can slow down the software or cause it to crash.

Pros

\- Sketchup has a user-friendly interface that is intuitive and easy to learn, making it a great tool for beginners and professionals alike.- The Warehouse feature allows users to access a wide variety of 3D models, saving time and effort in the modeling process.- Sketchup is ideal for presenting design ideas to clients and stakeholders who may not understand technical drawings.- The software allows users to create floor plans, sections, elevations, and 3D models from a single drawing, streamlining the design process and saving time.

Cons

\- Sketchup can be limited in its ability to handle large-scale projects, particularly when it comes to working with vegetation or other complex models that can slow down the software or cause it to crash.- The pricing of Sketchup can be expensive, especially for those who are just starting out or working on a limited budget.- The trial version of the software is only available for one month, which may not be enough time for users to fully explore all of its features.

### "Best and easiest software for making 3D Models."

April 30, 2022

4.0

Overall. I had a good experience with SketchUp and I am looking forward to use it in future.

Pros

The best thing about SketchUp is that it is extremely easy to draw 3D Models using the software. All the basic options like shapes, arcs, push-pull are easily available. Also other options can be added conveniently. Another good thing is that there is a 3D Warehouse which has readymade models of commonly used items. Another thing that I like is that I can easily convert a 2D outline to a 3D model using push-pull option. Also Sketchup has a higher compatibility with other CAD softwares and animation softwares.

Cons

The only thing I disliked about Sketchup is that 2D drawings are not precise and accurate. It is quite difficult to draw floor plans of buildings in Sketchup because it lacks a few important features required in 2D drawings.

### "Best 3D Modelling Design Software"

October 24, 2022

5.0

Sketch Up is a 3D modeling tool that can be used to produce either a 2D or 3D model with the help of its primary features, including lighting effects, animations, layer manager, texture, and many more. I use this software as a Chemical Engineer when I propose a 3D design of the equipment in order to fully explain the technical aspects of the structural engineering proposal to our clients. My favorite aspect of this software is the animation tool since it allows clients to understand, visualize, and analyze the design in greater detail while being sufficiently true to the design's reality once it has been manufactured. It is compatible with a variety of third-party "plug ins," like Lumion, which improves other tools not included in Sketch Up. Plug-ins are easily accessible in either Sketch Up Extension Warehouse or SketchUcation Plug-ins Store. This software also allows for free rendering, but if you wanted your model to seem photoreal, you could upgrade by buying a rendering program that is simple to connect with SketchUp.This tool is also designed for amateurs like students who wished to create a 3D modeling proposal design for their university needs. Starting with the fundamentals, such as 2D, might be more beneficial for beginners, and if you are comfortable with all the tools, it will be simpler for you to create more complex designs in the future.

Pros

1\. In contrast to other modeling software like Autocad, Sketch Up can provide up to 3d modeling2. Beginner friendly3. Produce best 3D modelling output (detailed and precise)4. Can produce models for a brief period of time5. Compatible with numerous third-party plug-ins

Cons

1\. Speed of rendering takes up much time depending on the file size2. Some plug ins needed to be purchase which is a little bit expensive
