We wanted a simple to use, reliable and feature rich application and Lightspeed delivered, only wish we could write our own extensions a little easier.

Pros

The ux is absolutely straightforward and intuitive, you hardly even need the manual from set up to production

Cons

API behind a pay wall. As a software developer who casually wrenches and has set up lightspeed in multiple businesses, I'd have liked to get in deeper on the nerdy side. From a regular user perspective that's not an issue though.

The user side for POS is fine, but the back office and management is not great; it is difficult and without room to customize it.

Pros

It is simple to use, team members can get used to it quickly, it covers the basics for a POS. The Lightspeed Payments are good, with nice rates

Cons

It is not personalizable; if it doesn't include functions that you need, it is VERY hard to have them implemented. They also add and remove functions without communicating it.

### "Take the plunge, get Lightspeed "

Started with Lightspeed during covid, and it was possibly one of the best decisions we could have made for our restaurant. We are now able to accurately determine quantities of items sold and see what menu items are performing under to be able to advertise and highlight those items. Customer support is always available and I’ve never had to wait long to be connected to someone when I needed help. They will do their absolute best to fix every problem you have. We also recently went through a Hurricane that caused power and internet outrages for extended times in our area. We were still able to use Lightspeed despite not being able to connect with the internet thanks to their software and technology. Once the internet was restored (about a month later), Lightspeed was able to back up all sales and report information from when the internet was out. I highly recommend taking the plunge and starting up with Lightspeed. We are very satisfied.

Ease of use, ease of setup, always someone to help available 24/7

Cons

I can’t even think of something I don’t like about Lightspeed. We are very satisfied with them.

### "OK but generally disappointed."

Not the worst but certainly not a great experience so far. I'm being hopeful they will correct some of the issues or shortfalls. The implementation process has been very much on their terms. They have been very nice but the process has been slow and difficult and has put a lot of responsibility on me and my staff to learn how to configure and use the software on our own. Training videos are OK but only touch the surface. Getting answers to specific issues or ways to accomplish things is very slow. Honestly if I was starting over I probably would pick a different system but I'm this far along so I'm hoping they will make improvements moving forward.

Pros

Speed. The POS system and printers seem much faster than our previous system. The process of building menu's from individual items once you get used to it is much better than our previous system.

Cons

Several disappointing items. The set up process was slow and tedious. Response times from the set up specialist and sales person were slow. Usually one to two days by email. Never phone calls except for one onboarding phone call. This made the learning curve difficult. Printing: The system uses a LOT of paper. There does not seem to be many options for controlling how things print. The kitchen tickets have few configuration options which can make them difficult to read. Voided tickets are extremely lengthy. Receipts from credit card transactions have a lot of unnecessary information which leave them confusing to the customer. The system automatically prints new receipts every time a tip is entered even at the end of the night. Wastes lots of paper. Generating a "take out" order is tedious. You either have to add a customer profile which is a lot of steps or you can add simple name but doing that changes the order to a dine-in order which then requires more steps to set it back to a take out order. Menu's: very limited options in laying out menu's. You can re-order menu items but not actually place them on the menu. In our previous system we could put similar sandwiches for example in a column on the screen making it more intuitive. Credit card transactions: This works well but requires multiple steps to get through the transaction. There seems to be no way to streamline this. Part of our business is a lot of simple walk up - take away orders. These extra steps slow down our lines. Customer self pay at the table: something we hoped to use but their version leaves too much room for errors so we won't use it. Most other systems we looked at put a QR code on the receipt for the specific receipt. This system uses QR codes for a table. It leaves too many possibilities for errors if a customer changes tables. It really should be specific to a ticket/order. 3rd party delivery integration: Integrating with delivery platforms like uber, doordash, grubhub and others has remained very difficult. The integrators they work with have been poor or non-responsive. Lightspeed has provided no help in getting a good integration to work. Order Notes and Item Notes: Their system is very clumsy and difficult for the kitchen and front of the house staff. Instead of allowing actual notes on items or for the order itself they make this work by using additional items which can have the names changed. It works but is just not simple. End of the day Cash reports are extremely confusing and don't really seem to make sense. I'm still now after a month of using them trying to figure out how to accurately match the cash in the drawer with the report. Refunding a credit card: Except for same day transactions there is no way to refund a credit card on the POS. The only option is through the back office website which requires a separate computer and separate access. So for example if a customer comes back the next day and indicates an error on a receipt, someone in the restaurant can't easily do it without going to the back of the house with a computer screen.

Overall the platform/epos does what it needs to do! We personally had constant connectivity issues between devices which they always try to lay blame elsewhere, which caused issues with kitchen printing and network printing in general. We installed a £5k new internet / network across one of the sites to resolve all and it did nothing to improve with 800mb speeds We have several pubs / restaurants, and this was really not suited to our operations! We also were not allowed to add a new site without using light speed payments at the new site with the epos which we didn’t want to do as they couldn’t match our current card machine rates. Therefore this resulted in the new site using a different epos, which we have now moved all the businesses too. I don’t think it’s your worst option of an epos, but for someone with a small operation such as ours with a couple pub/restaurant sites, this is not the epos for you!

Pros

A lot of features and reporting - integrates well. Nice user interface and design for staff

Cons

I found the system overall too much, everything was just harder than it needed to be to set up, harder than it needed to be on the back offfice, inventory was far more complicated than it needed to be, reports covered everything but were also just a little too meticulous at the same time that it was counter productive and just needed to provide the information needed.

My overall experience with Lightspeed was top notch. As I mentioned above, I've used many different restaurant POS systems in my lifetime. Some were old, some were outdated and some were very up to speed and easy to use - which I found was my experience with Lightspeed. When you're in the food industry, taking orders as fast and efficient as possible is crucial. So you need a good system that is easy to maneuver and gets the job done. Lightspeed was awesome for intricate things such as splitting bills among multiple customers. It was good for accessing and printing out itemized bills. And most importantly was easy to read for us who were entering everything in. The layout was self explanatory which made it easy to punch things in quickly and check patrons out as fast as they sat down.

Pros

When I was bartending at my last restaurant job they had us using Lightspeed as our POS system to put orders in and use for our cash register. I've been in the restuarant industry for 8+ years so I have seen a multitude of different POS system - and this was by far my favorite I've used.

Cons

I didn't have any bad reviews using Lightspeed. It was very quick and easy to learn. I was able to really get down the gist within my first day of training. The biggest thing I had to learn was just memorizing where all our items on our menu were to efficiently and quickly put in orders.

Cons

I would be very careful signing up, we have been trying to cancel for weeks now but have been given the run around. The sales team is supposed to reach out but we have been waiting. Now our next months payment has just come out. They are extremely difficult to deal with. Other companies have call centers based in the states but it does not seem as though lightspeed does.

### "The POS We've Been Waiting For"

I manage a restaurant called Eclipse Chocolate, and I was uncertain that Lightspeed would be able to meet all of our needs. We're a full service dining concept with brunch and dinner daily, a cafe, a bakery, an event space, a confectioner, and a wholesaler; we needed a POS that would be intuitive and adaptable to a very dynamic menu, and usable by professional servers, as well as kitchen and production staff. We got it! The customer service is outstanding, and offered hands-on support with our setup. We'd had some initial miscommunications and misunderstandings, and we found we needed some additional functionality out of the software. However, the team has always been very helpful and fast to respond; I'm also very pleasantly surprised how much development is being done with the app. This is definitely a well-supported POS that is constantly being improved. I'm extremely impressed by how well it works for our unique "combo based" menu. Lightspeed has helped close a lot of simple human error loopholes! We also decided to invest in the "Liteserver," which was an expensive piece of hardware, but a welcome relief during internet outages. Losing WiFi during a busy brunch was disastrous with previous cloud-based POS'es, but now we don't even miss a beat (or a ticket).

Cons

There are some minor missing features I would still like to see, like better development of Labor Reports to help calculate overtime, but I have confidence that they will be added in time. I see an update every couple weeks, so I do believe the dev team is working through a list.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!! MOVE ON TO THE NEXT!

Nothing to say here. There is nothing good about this system except for the promptness of my customer service, who usually has bad news. But as I now understand my customer service rep doesn't ACTUALLY work for Kounta, she works for the company that sold it to me. I wish they would have sold me one of their other POS options.

Cons

Server level order control is an upgrade, they don't tell you that when purchasing, even though that is one of the most basic things. Check splitting is the most laborious I have ever experienced, if you have a table that needs multiple splits get them a refill of their coffee because it will take a while. No over all system close out, no way to re-open a check. In lieu of that simple option they have a refund button, but, guess what if you had multiple pay types IE Cash and CC that doesn't work, can only refund whole amount to one pay type, which then screws up the server report(one of the biggest reasons to have a POS system) Integrated credit card system has worst customer service ever. If you need to get someone after 9 good luck. Randomly loses checks! Have no idea how that happens but if you are on a check and the system reloads(which it does a lot) bye bye order!

Overall experience is disgracefully! There call center is in a third world country with poor phone lines and roosters crowing in the background! They only answer during the day, not when needed after hours.

Pros

Its hard to offer what is good when things are so bad! This system is designed by computer people who believe all their customers are as computer knowledgeable as they are. When they dont answer their phones its hard to give anything positive!

Cons

The Customer Service is Diabolical! I lost sales due to big glitch in the system! No one answers the phone, even at 6.30pm. They only deal with you through text!! This takes 10 times longer than is required. They are quick to take your money but offer pathetic after sales service!

Kounta as a POS system has been able to grow with us, providing flexibility and ease of use that is a massive relief when you have the pressures of an expanding business to contend with. The ability to simply add or subtract registers, combined with the functionality of a internet based system makes change relatively pain free. Wireless waiter stations, Albert pay terminals, Bluetooth printers (which I don't have but am excited about and will probably get), its all so easy to use. Why pay thousands of dollars in cabling, installation costs and labour in setting up your system? Good question - i'm not sure! Just research what you want - call Kounta, put it in and download the software... add your products, tailor it the way you want, and go for it!

Cons

The back end of product input is a little cumbersome - a simply category/sub-category/sub-sub category system works best. Sometimes this is represented by Department/category/sub-category either way, it is far more flexible for product input, button organisation and more granular for reporting.

Product is good but not all encompassing. We need to be able to amend previously finalised takings if changes or errors are made. This has been communicated to Kounta and apparently will be looked at and hopefully rectified in a further release?? The price schedules are limited and not really applicable for my size organisation. I would like to have 2 x POS devices however paying more than $50 per month would lead me to making the once of purchase for a non-cloud customised POS system. The fact you need to add a new register to have an additional device seems ludicrous to me and I would beleive would limit your customer base. What about all the cafes out there that want one register but multiple devices to take orders. Sorry to be critical but it appears to be a mechansim of revenue raising, albeit you could get the same results from just growing your customer base by having a more universal and cost effective product. I'd suggest you could come up with some alternate pricing schedules where adding an additional device for $10 per device per month versus a whole register would add value to your product. I'd happily pay $60 per month to have one register and two devices to take orders to that register. Maybe I'm missing some sort of constraint hindering you from enabling multiple devices on the one register however in this day and age I would have thought it would be easy. Food for thought, I won't be increasing my subscription but rather work around this limitation. Again, I'm not trying to be critical but what I get for $50 per month from Xero for a cloud based accounting software versus what I currently receive from Kounta for $50 is a month, the difference in value us astounding. The reason for an overall rating of 3 stars primarily relates to your pricing schedule. Don't hesitate to contact me if you wish to clarify any of this feedback.

Pros

We've been using Lightspeed at our Marina/Restaurant/Bar for 3 years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. The setup was really straight forward and there has been such great customer service for any questions or issues that have come up. It's very user friendly and easy to train new staff on. Very simple when it comes to changing prices or adding new products. We are very happy we went with Lightspeed at Marina Knowlton!

Cons

I'm not a very "techie" person so there have been some issues that have come up (that would have come up with any POS) that I wasn't able to figure out on my own. But any time we have called customer service for support they have helped fix the problem. So in the end, not really a con!

needs to have an integrated widget for websites not supported by their software. or a link where clients can book a reservation.

LightSpeed support is superior to all other product support I am getting both from a business standpoint as well as personal. Their response is quick and understandable.

Pros

Easy to use backed up by professional support. Conversion and training was excellent.

Cons

Consignment reporting requires a couple extra steps from my previous product.

Anytime an issue or a question rise up, the team is super helpful and quick to solve it !

Pros

Best POS system on the market. Period ! The customer service and dummy proof system makes everythiong easy, plus accounting is directly linked. Amazing time saver !

Cons

When you set up your floor plan there is not a lot of choices in terms of ''decoration'' to help new memebers of the team visualise the better.... But truly, that's being a little bit over the top...

### "First Advanced Software"

We need better support system in the week end. We need a app to view from the menu. We will have to use browser to login into restaurant manager. As a owner, we need to simple app to check the sales summary for each location in the app.

Pros

Easy to use with many features. We have been using this software since the inception. We are happy with software.

Cons

There are few limitations to use it but it's getting fixed one by one. We have only POS system. We are looking complete solutions for the restaurant to track the sales and expenses.
