It handles heavy data loads and complex inventory much better than the web based alternative. The savings over QuickBooks Online are undeniable for my specific needs, and the software just feels more robust and professional. It is the reliable workhorse that keeps my finances in order without the monthly subscription bloat of the cloud versions. Pros The biggest win for me here is the Value for Money when you actually crunch the numbers. While everyone pushes the Online version, QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus is significantly cheaper in the long run, especially if you manage multiple company files. With Online, you pay a monthly subscription for each separate entity, but with Desktop, I can run books for multiple businesses under one annual license. Ease of Use is another major factor. The interface is lightning fast because it runs locally on my machine. I do not have to wait for web pages to load or worry about internet lag when I am entering a stack of invoices. The reporting features are deeper and more customizable than the cloud version, giving me exactly the data I need without jumping through hoops. Cons The primary downside is the Cost structure change. If you have multiple entities or need real inventory tracking, sticking with Desktop is a no-brainer. Each year Intuit continues to destroy what was once a decent product. Paying bills used to be a snap but they they added third party Melio which is a nightmare. Shipping was easy and precise until they changed their shipping manager to what looks like also a third party that has no real world functionality. My business doesn't fit into the tiny box they have forced me into but they just don't care. Pros Invoicing works as it should. It has many features for reporting from all your accounts and allows for many variations of accounts to be made so that you have very specific reporting and records. Pros Invoicing is very easy, wide variety of reports to choose from for payroll and other financial information. Cons I really liked the ease of payroll but over the years the price had increased so much we just couldn't afford it anymore. It wasn't worth the money when we have less than 10 employees. We would have to reset Quickbooks as it would lock the company we would need in Cons The things that bothered me were when people would go to single user mode and not switch over, then log it. Quickbooks then would not let anyone else log in and you would have to ask the other person to log in switch it and then you could log in. If someone logs out in single user mode it should automatically go back to multi user mode. It is so much better in my eyes to be able to pay a onetime fee and not be worried about a subscription fee. Customer support is always easy to reach and immensely helpful. I was able to run our companies bookkeeping, accounting, invoicing and estimating well enough. I did update my system to QuickBooks Online and Houzz for these features as well as others that Desktop didn't have, but overall my experience was a good one. Pros I liked QuickBooks Desktop for its ease of use and content available for our company. The content of invoicing, estimates and reports are great. Cons I liked least about QuickBooks Desktop was that it didn't have the specifics I needed for General Contractors or the new and improved updates that the online version provides. It is really user-friendly and easy to figure out. Whenever I havea question, I can always search for the answer in the community and get tons of resposnes from other users. The few times that I have needed Customer Support, they have been extremely friendly and helpful. Pros I love the ability to create custom reports so that I can quickly access the information that I need. I also appreciate the layout of Quickbooks Desktop - the icons make it easy to jump from one task to another. We recently added the "Payment Links" feature and absolutely love how easy it is for my clients to pay securely through the portal! Cons The only negative thing that I would say is that I wish I could create a custom template that could be used for everything - invoives, credit memos, statements, etc. I would like to see an option to use a single template for all prints and Quickbooks would just format it for me. Cons Wish customer service was better as they are hard to get ahold of, and is not always straightforward solutions. It has stopped all duplicate charging to customers and cut down on transposed addresses (provided they are input right on the estimate). We have 2 other programs integrated with QuickBooks Desktop (for credit cards and for shipping), so this keeps manual posting to a minimum, which also cuts errors down. Pros Customer sends product to us to be worked on, which we input to QuickBooks as an estimate. Once finished, we move this over to an invoice. We are able to add notes at any time to see status. It is easy to look up a customer's order by name, partial address or phone #. Cons Once we finish with a customer's product, we move the estimate info to invoice. The invoice has all info needed, including tracking, so we don't need the estimate anymore. I have to manually delete the finished estimates every day. It's sad and frustrating that Intuit is phasing it out and over charging for the product now. I had called and asked a few years ago why the price was increasing and was told they were charging similar to their competitors. Why would I want to stay with a company that doesn't charge based on the product cost but just to make as much money as possible? The reason so many people use quickbooks is because of the low price. Competition is supposed to be good for consumers, but increasing prices to match what your competitors charge feels like price fixing. I would not be surprised to learn that Intuit is owned by private equity. Due to the poor way we have been treated as long time customers of quickbooks, we will be moving to another company this year. I know they're pushing everyone to quickbooks online, but I have tried it and it does not meet our needs, not is it easy to use. Pros Quickbooks desktop has lots of features and reports for running accounting tasks and seeing trends over time. I like that I can have several windows open at once to bounce back and forth between reports and registers. I also like that it's not dependent on a fast internet connection, since it lives on a work station or server. Cons While I like most of the features of quickbooks desktop, I don't like how the price keeps increasing. I wish we could keep it, but this year the cost will go up more than 50%, from $649 to $999.
