December 5, 2019 5.0 I am winning at bookkeeping using Quickbooks Desktop Pro, what more can I say? Pros Quickbooks Desktop Pro allows me to be a great bookkeeper! Isn't that worth it's monetary investment right there!? I am able to input bills/pay bills, deposits, bank reconciliations and run reports all in the same platform. I even order our checks through the software and it reminds me when we are getting low. Also, I love that I can set reminders for monthly tasks and bills that need to be taken care of without worrying about forgetting. It's tracking it all for me and I just take care of it when the reminder pops up. Now I don't have the bank account connected and that is a personal preference but it is an available feature and it has it's benefits. You can also complete invoicing and payroll through Quickbooks desktop but we already had other means to complete those tasks. I can't recommend it enough, you won't regret the investment. Cons The only con I have about Quickbooks Desktop Pro is that going from the online version and converting to desktop is not clean. I've yet to get an import that wasn't missing something. I hope this is something Intuit will improve on in the future. But if you don't have to go back and forth then it's not an issue. I only have one client that this a bother for, other than that I keep everything on the desktop version. Review Source Allison H. I was a novice at the beginning, and after a month or two I felt like I had a good understanding of everything. It made tracking money owed and paid very easy and clear. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience. Pros QuickBooks made creating and sending invoices a breeze, as well as adding a more professional look than a simple emailed bill. Tracking and receiving payments was also extremely easy and clear. Cons My favorite part of QuickBooks was the organization of invoicing. We had the 2017 version for 4 years and everything was going good, and then recently we all started to get an error message. Customer service basically told us it was time to upgrade or we would keep having problems. This was costly for us because the 2021 version of QuickBooks only works on Windows 10, and not everyone in our office has Windows 10. They didn't seem to care to help us keep the version that had worked without problem for 4+ years. Pros QuickBooks saved the day when we needed a new system. The setup team was fairly easy to work with, and imported everything from our old system right into the new system. Cons When you call customer service, they do not seem to understand their own software. They make you go through the motions of trying everything you've already tried before they actually get you to anyone who can really help. Pick something else even if upfront cost is higher ( Used for 15 years" November 5, 2020 1.0 We've used Quickbooks POS and Desktop for 15 years. We just recently decided to integrate credit card processing. Our "sales rep" flat out lied about the features. Once he received our payment, he would not return calls or emails. Swell! We've upgraded to the new version 19. This process has been simply AWFUL. I have no less that 15 "case numbers". Even had our files sent to a technician. No resolution! My Staff had figured some work arounds to make the lock ups and disruptions to business less frequent. With each call I make to support I will be "disconnected" at least 2-3 times and have to start the process all over. This includes attempts to call and use the "online support" which is worse. After maybe an hour of ineffective support (I am being kind here), I will be referred to Level 2. They are always too busy at the time to assist, and "will call back". The call back DOES NOT HAPPEN. I will have to call back everyday for a week and complain before Level 2 will call. I have had Level 2 "call back appointments" promise after promise of call backs. NEVER HAPPENS These issues take away from my ability to manage my business effectively. I belong to several business groups online. I continue to say pick another POS Quickbooks is awful...just awful. Oh and the chickens and roosters in the background when talking to support...what in the world??? I've decided to give some online reviews as well so folks that want to focus on their business make a different choice even if Pros Quickbooks offers one stop shopping that initially appealed to me. We use Point of Sate along with integrating into the Desktop for accounting. Cons Support is worse than non existent. Integration is limited. I like that my too often down internet does not interfere with my use of the Desktop version and access to my data. Quickbooks does a good job of making sure I backup my data (only needed to use those backup once in 20+ years, but oh boy what a lifesaver!!), providing me the accounting/billing/payroll tools I need for my small business in a way that complements how I run my business. Pros It keeps my data on my computer, performs all my accounting/payroll needs, it's a familiar platform that has evolved for decades, mostly for the better. Cons I am frustrated that Quickbooks has recently dramatically increased the price of QuickBooks Desktop Pro in an apparent drive to push users to a cloud platform product and subscription model. Dumb things, like when you have multiple screens on your desk, pop-up window go all over. The ability to reverse a deposit made in error is a nightmare. If you make a mistake, in general, it can be very difficult to rescue yourself. Simple things: Some of the print is too small to read easily. I really think they've lost touch with the user experience. 8,047 invoices later, there are still many tasks I perform manually or rekey because there does not seem to be an easy way to do it. Pros Excellent job at keeping the checkbook. Making deposits and invoicing works well. Reports are top notch. Cons If you make an error in a deposit, it is very difficult to correct without seeking help from your accountant. If you need to do customization after you've set up, you're stuck with the way you set it up on day one. Very difficult change the letter options. This feature is nice since you can produce only a few statement at a time, since it may not be necessary to produce a whole batch at one time. Pros I like how the reconcile feature works under the banking section. It allows the user to make changes by leaving the reconcile screen to make any changes within the QuickBooks program, and it still holds everything where you left off, which keeps the user from having to start over. Once complete, it creates the reconciliation detail report and a summary report, which is easy to print, or save in electronic file. Cons My biggest frustration is just learning how to use the software. Their is always a learning curve to learning a new software program. To help with learning QuickBooks, I took a class at a local community college to learn and understand how QuickBooks works. It is also helpful to have some accounting knowledge with learning QuickBooks. Reason for choosing QuickBooks Desktop I never considered any other product since it came highly recommended by our accountant. If your team doesn't keep up maintained on old codes or new products, the system will bloat and slow down heavily. Pros The ability to hold item codes, pricing and project definitions is great for sorting out all the orders we do on a daily business day. it's easy to receive items as inventory and keep your counts straight. Cons They recently changed the design of the search function and it is terrible. Besides bogging down the whole system, you can't reconfigure the search criteria by multiple prompts like you use to making it even harder to find special items in inventory.
