It handles heavy data loads and complex inventory much better than the web based alternative. The savings over QuickBooks Online are undeniable for my specific needs, and the software just feels more robust and professional. It is the reliable workhorse that keeps my finances in order without the monthly subscription bloat of the cloud versions. Pros The biggest win for me here is the Value for Money when you actually crunch the numbers. While everyone pushes the Online version, QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus is significantly cheaper in the long run, especially if you manage multiple company files. With Online, you pay a monthly subscription for each separate entity, but with Desktop, I can run books for multiple businesses under one annual license. Ease of Use is another major factor. The interface is lightning fast because it runs locally on my machine. I do not have to wait for web pages to load or worry about internet lag when I am entering a stack of invoices. The reporting features are deeper and more customizable than the cloud version, giving me exactly the data I need without jumping through hoops. Cons The primary downside is the Cost structure change. It used to be a one time purchase, but now the "Plus" model forces an annual subscription, which is frustrating for long time users who preferred owning the software outright. It is an added expense we have to budget for every year now. Also, Customer Support can be a challenge; hold times are often long, and sometimes it feels like they are just trying to upsell you to the Online platform rather than fixing the immediate Desktop issue. If you have multiple entities or need real inventory tracking, sticking with Desktop is a no-brainer. The invoicing functionality and reconciliation tools are the most helpful features. Off late the updates have slowed down and there is constant push to move to cloud version. Pros The thing we like most about this version is it still allows to manage multiple clients without paying individual subscription and the ability to generate detailed reports helps the small business clients overview their financials with ease. Cons The software feels a bit dated if we compare to the online tools. Secondly importing transactions from bank statements is very complicated and crashes the application on many occasions. Lastly limited to the office computer but that is a conscious decision to keep the cost down. Desktop version for QB sold by local store give better price. Intuit does not like to honor that even though the cost of Online version should be cheaper. Pros It is standalone and generally cheaper than the online version. Cost and legacy is important to the old customers. Cons It is hard to keep up with versions over the years. When the laptop changes I lose history. Why Intuit is still forcing two different version. The Cloud version is not exactly the same as the desktop version causing trouble. May 12, 2025 5.0 Experience with the product has been 4 out of 5. Every so often their maintenance release messes up the windows firewall port(s) and can take some finessing to get working properly. This is on a network with server and 2-users. Pros Works as it should for small business accounting, easy to use. Cons The worst price gouging of any software product I've ever used. In 2022 a 2-user license for the desktop Pro version was $549, in 2023 they raised it to $749, in 2024 it went up $849. And here we are in 2025, only (4) years later and now the price is up to $1,199, that's DOUBLE the price!! Terrible that they strong-arm you into being a subscription based service and raise the prices in a VERY UNREASONABLE manner - to me, this warrants a class action suit. We would have to reset Quickbooks as it would lock the company we would need in Cons The things that bothered me were when people would go to single user mode and not switch over, then log it. Quickbooks then would not let anyone else log in and you would have to ask the other person to log in switch it and then you could log in. If someone logs out in single user mode it should automatically go back to multi user mode. I also love how easily data can be exported to our CPA and how seamlessly their adjustments can be imported back. Highly recommended for businesses that want powerful features with dependable support. Cons The only con I can think of is that it is desktop and not browser based. It does a good job of showing where money is coming from and where it is going, as well as provide you with a snaphop of the same with as much, or as little detail as you want. Pros Quickbooks does a fairly complete job of wrapping up your finances into one complete package. It can be very basic, or very complete. Cons It can be overly complicated and complex at times. It can be overwhelimg to see SO much detail and data in front of you in reports.
